Since people liked the idea so much, I am making a thread for my newer hack.

Mario in Dreamland.

In this hack, I am editing the colors and the graphics from Kirby's Adventure to those in which are the Super Mario genre.

I hope you like the idea. :3

Also, if anyone has any ideas such as what the bosses should be made into, feel free to tell me.

So did you figure out how to make Sword-Mario yet? I mean really, it should just be a matter of matching up where his arm should be.

Speaking of figuring Kirby out... I wonder if there's a way to get mini-kirby into the game, seeing how the sprites for it are there.

Interesting concept!
I'd love to play this. Great job.

Bosses, eh? Well, Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright obviously need to be Angry Sun and Angry Moon.
That's all for now. Great job.

Here's a few ideas (And I don't count Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright because those were already taken. XD):

Kirby Bosses --- Mario's Bosses

Kracko --- Lakithunder (Not the user!)
Meta Knight --- Link (Who said the boss had to be from a Mario game?)
King Dedede --- Bowser (How obvious is THAT?)
Nightmare 1 --- Crystal(s)
Nightmare 2 --- Culex (Hey, he looks similar to the Nightmare! )

If you don't like them..... That's fine with me. They're only ideas.

Haven't tried yet. Been mostly editing the enemies and tiles.
I am sure I will be able to do it.

Please forgive my ignorance but... mini-kirby? :3

Sounds good to me. I will probably edit the already made boss sprites to make it resemble him.

Sounds alright except for Link. Both do not know why he will be fighting Mario and probably will throw the theme of the game off. ^^
Problem is that I do not know what most of these enemies that you suggested look like.
So any pictures of them will be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and ideas. I always can use more. Even if someone suggested a boss alternative, if you have another idea feel free to share them. :3

I normally don't post in hack progress threads, because I usually don't have anything to contribute

I had to post here, though, because the concept of this hack amazed me. The graphics look wonderful. My friend and I are exchanging comments on your screen shots over AIM right now, and I must say, we're impressed.

We especially had fun laughing at your comment: "I hope you like the idea. :3 ". We found it amusing that you implied that anyone could not like it. As if that were even possible.

Mario appears to be keeping the abilities of the character he is replacing, as well. The crossover game play will be a wonderful touch...

Something else I don't normally do is to actually download peoples' releases and play through their games. I'm a selfish bastard, so I usually just focus on making my own hacks without trying others', but I think I'll end up playing this one. With gusto.

I say great idea of a hack. I also say that if you are going to make the bosses, they could be the bosses from SMW... You could redo the boss looks. I never played this game so hacking the bosses to look like bowser for example could be too weird because of the fact that the behavior codes wont be the same... Does it have to be an Nes game that you would take the tiles from? And if it can be snes too then can you use the mario from there instead? Just some ideas.

Looking pretty good. Nice concept here. Couple minor bugs I'd like to point out, but you may already know them:

1. The status bar at the bottom still says "Kirby". The two pictures are also still Kirby
2. In the 5th screen (space/blue) the green spike tiles cut off into black. It looks awkward
3. In the 6th screen (pyramids) there are little white spaces all around the green FG. Those should be made transparent
4. In the last screen, is that strange square hole in the background supposed to be there.
5. The palette of Mario's health keeps on changing from dark to light. I don't remember it doing this in the original.

Bugs aside, the screenies look great. I especially like the use of Mario sprites in it..will be interesting to see how it works out.

Good luck!

1. Yes I will be fixing the status bar to have Mario as well as custom powerup screens. I am thinking of using pictures of the powerup like if the powerup resembles a fireflower, I will have a picture of a fireflower. Although I would like to, it simply will take too long to draw completely custom drawings.

2. Actually I do believe it was like that for the original spikes in KA. The problem is that I believe if I change that, it will screw it up for other areas in the game where it is used.

3. I do believe it is the best to be like that. Like #2, if it is changed, it will end up messing up other parts of the game more than help.

4. Yes it is a door.

5. The health flashes so everything is cool there.

Seeing that Kirby's graphics are 16x16 pixels, the SMB3 mario is the only one that can be used.

oh thanks for the info and the bugs should be fixed... Can someone give me the exact name of this game? You can also resize the mario from SMW. I am working on the halo mod for mario 64 and have taken the halo cover and made it the correct size to be one of the paintings. I could edit the size with my software for you. As well as help with the hack trying out different characters and stuff.

Yes indeed. Mini-Kirby. It was a copy ability found in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, but the Mini-Kirby sprites originally appeared in Kirby's Adventure (but never actually used in the game).

That's what it looks like.

No thank you. I like the SMB3 mario.

Apparently he now can. X3
He will probably suck the enemies into his mouth (think Wario when he gets stung by a bee and his face swells up). The problem is that when flying, there is a 8x8 tile where Kirby's belly is. The problem with that tile is that it is facing the same direction facing left as well as right. So I can:

1. Make Mario inflate (fill) his face full of air or an enemy.
2. His whole body inflates like the effect of the P-Balloon.
3. I can make up some kind of gizmo of some sort and try to make it fit. Like some sort of vacuum or flying/sucking machine.

Any chance of making those status bars a little less pink? That dull pink color is all over the game, and looks dull next to the colorful Mario sprites.

I like those immense icons that Kirby uses to show power-ups. They make the regular Mario ones look small. Maybe you could use the Mario power-ups (16x16?) with some effects around them, including the words from the Kirby screens. That would look pretty good.

I cannot without changing the colors to the question mark boxes and the bricks which are the exact same colors as the ones in SMB3.

Well here is my inflated mario test gfx. The only problem is that when mario sucks the enemies up, he still faces forward making it look strange.

These screens are really nice, I like how this is coming along. I remember three years ago (I think it was Dan, WindWaker and Kefka, and Parasyte too) found alotta data for this game. But KA has seven compression schemes if I'm not mistaken.

Alright. Just about every enemy is now converted to SMB ones and most of the tiles are edited to be more mario-like. The ones I did not edit either are too hard or just simply fit with mario.

As for mario sucking up enemies, the p-balloon idea was good but it simply doesn't seem to work well. I will try to make Mario's head swell instead.

EDIT: well maybe i will work with the inflated p-balloon style. Just looks strange when he sucks up an enemy and moves while facing the screen (you).
