Okay, so I think it would be a little more effective if I maybe started a thread to explain all the changes that have been made so far, sort of consolodate all the screens and updates.

Title Screen:

Level 1- Castle Entrance:

Level 2- Royal Chessboard:

Level 3- Castle Roof:

Level 4- The Pit/Courtyard:

Level 5- Olrox's Quarters:

Level 6- Clock Tower:

(Some of the level screens are out of date)

NEW ENEMIES
------------------------

Panthers- Much like the ones from Symphony of the Night. They run at you, and when you strike them with a weapon, they freeze momentarily. After the temporary freeze, they continue to run.

Thorn Weeds- They stay closed up untill you are within a certain distance from them. They then snap open and start shooting fire balls at you. They take two hits to kill.

Ghosts- They float in one spot for a short period of time, and then chase after you, quickly starting and stopping.

Skeleapes- They move back and forth, mostly away from you quickly, starting and stopping like the ghosts. They throw evil cross boomerangs.

NEW BOSSES
-----------------------

Beholder (sprite by Setz)- The new Level 2 boss floats back and forth at the top of the screen quickly and sends smaller Beholders after you.

Slorga- The new Level 3 boss runs quick and jumps high. It shoots fireballs, and throws bones, like the ones skeletons throw.

Gaibon- The new Level 4 boss is Slorga's companion usually. It flies around the screen, dodging attacks, and shooting a barrage of fireballs.

Count Olrox- Olrox is the new boss of Level 5. He glides around the room like he did in SotN (he even has the shadow-trail effect). He shoots fireballs, and throws evil boomerangs. He then turns into his 2nd form. (2nd form has not been coded yet. The screenshot is just concept art)

The hack also features a brand new sountrack, and updated sound effects. The sound effects sound more like ones from later Castlevania games for the NES. This hack is a joint effort between myself, and optomon. I've been focusing on all the gfx and level design, and he's been doing the coding.

I bet you this will be the best Castlevania hack that we'll ever see. And if not that, then the best in a very long awhile.

You two seem to work great together, and I can't wait to try and beat this (And fail.)

All the graphics that you're doing are awesome, and all the code changes that have been done by Optomon so far sound great.

This might make it into the game in some form or another:
Castle Map
Then again, I don't even want to think of the pain in the ass that editing the map screen is going to be. So you might get this, or the map screen might be gone all together. We'll see.

Fun... with points!!

When you killed multiple enemies in one shot in the original, the sequence went 1000, 2000, 4000, 7000 which I think that's too generous so I changed that:

For now it's just 200, 600, 1000, 2000. I'll see how I feel about it later.

(in the original there was no graphic for the 7000 though it looks like there was supposed to be one in the original game)

Our good old friend the money bag from behind the castle door

Just a little more than we bargained for! Note the score changed. I don't think it'll be worht that many points in the game, but maybe something else will.

This is looking good so far -- I think you've done a great job in keeping the classic Castlevania feel with the new sprites. This is actually quite timely, since I just read a full retrospective on Castlevania the other day.

Where will this sit in terms of the Castlevania storyline -- do you have any ideas in that respect?

It's great to see how this has shaped up over the time you guys have been working on this. As far as changes go, you've already kicked the ass off of Blood Moon, and that project was a blast to participate in.

I'll definitely be playing this one o.-

Oh! I forgot the story entirely!

STORY
------------
1476, Romania. A terrifying castle rises up from the mist. Along with the castle rose a dark powerful being named Count Dracula Vlad Tepes. A man named Trevor Belmont was fated to defeat the powerful vampire, aided by a witch named Sypha, Dracula's own son Alucard, and a pirate named Grant DeNasty. Together the team traversed the dark halls of Castlevania, defeating the count and his countless minions.

In 1777 a young child was born, and abandoned on a merchant ship with nothing but a headband with a mysterious crest, and the name Armund. The sailors raised the child on the high seas, and taught him the ways of being a sailor. Armund grew to be one of the greatest men that the merchant ship ever saw.

Late 1797, word started to spread of the legends of Count Dracula, and his tyranny in the land of Romania. It was about that time, the Armund ran into an old Romanian man in Serbia. The old man knew a lot about the history of Count Dracula, and his reign of terror in Romania. The old man recognized the crest on Armund's bandanna, and told him that it belonged to the DeNasty clan, and that his ancestor helped defeat Dracula. Armund decided to leave his life on the high seas to seek out more answers about his ancestry.

Romania, 1800. It's been 3 years since Alucard defeated his father in battle and has gone into eternal slumber. Armund's search has taken him to the mountains of Romania, not far from the town of Jova. A mysterious letter hinted that he might be able to find answers in the castle of Count Olrox, a servant of Count Dracula's. Armund set out of Olrox's castle, armed only with an enchanted barbed rope from Serbia. This will truly be the greatest and most arduous adventure of Armund DeNasty's life.

Release date = When it's done
Beta Tester screenings = When it's done
Demos = no

Don't worry. It will probably be out by the summer, but I'd even take that with a grain of salt. This project (in the form it's in, not even counting the other various CV hacks that turned into this) is almost 11 months old now, so you have to be patient for this one.

WOO! Triple post, but anyways, I got some awesome updates to share. First things first, here's a new item! This should be something nice to see for anyone who thinks Castlevania is kind of hard. We replaced the stopwatch with the laurels from CV2. When you use them you become invincible for a short period of time. Here they are in action:

A laurel, freshly busted out of a candle

Me using a laurel and standing inside of the merman on the right (normally that would hurt you)

Another thing that needs to be shown off is the new boss fight with Death:

He's significantly larger (He's twice as tall as the main character).

Other updates that optomon has made are some more updated sound effects, and replacing the demos (when you wait a while on the title screen) with music during the title screen.

Other things I'm working on: More sprites and I started chipping away at level design. I also updated the heads up display at the top of the screen (as shown in the laurel pics).

Looking good as always, Dr. Mario!

I like those granite block-like energy meters; they fit in well with the metallic font.

And the new border for the sub-weapon fits great with the holy water. Any reason why that holy water is now purple?

That is an amazing title screen! That seems like it took a long while to do...

Also, very creative level design, especially in level 5 for incorporating the bookshelves, etc.

The purple is just the palette that we replaced the blue palette with. It looks good with a lot of the enemies.
