For those that are curious, that's the special "Screw Your Neighbor" edition of DW:TLC, hacked by yours truly. The goal is to die as few times as possible!

- Life counter replaced with failure counter, which increments each time you die
- Each death gives you one use of the up+select powerup debug (number next to "TIME"), which has been modified to randomly give you either a feather or flower
- All 1-ups are added to your opponent's failure counter

What I did as a assignment in a "Sound design in games" course. Believe it or not, but out of the games there mine was probably the most welldone, some of the games people made were kind of pointless. It's a Wario ware clone, done in processing but part of me wants to scratch it and redo it with SDL instead. Also, I know the graphics is really bad, but I concentrated on the design and programming... while I made the graphics quickly in paint. They're easy to replace if I decide to spend more effort into them.

Though maybe I should just not bother about it and start working on my PHP project again.

Still working on that damn second draft of Resonance, my NaNoWriMo 2005 novel. I liked a bunch of ideas I came up with and the basic flow of the story, but I wound up rewriting virtually all of it because my writing style back then was too wordy and awkward for my current tastes.

In no particular order:

My current obsession is learning to program real-time strategy games, ala Starcraft. The one I'm working on is called Nocadiem and there's very little to show of it yet. But it's happening, trust me.

Also writing two stories, one of which is a collab with Zephi which we never remember to post here, the other of which has been rewritten so many times even I don't remember what the original story was.

Learning to play Starcraft at a competetive level. Trying not to hate people who only play fastest.

Making stepfiles of music by 5.7.5, which may or may not be the absolute best music ever. Don't worry, I'll share.

Recording and remixing all the music in Anvil of Dawn, an old adventure RPG game for the PC that only works by the magic of DOSBox.

Getting into a good college so my life won't suck.

Map Yoshi's Island
My first mapping project. Looking back, the maps aren't that great, but Yoshi's Island is a hard game to map. I lost interest right after 2-2 when I came upon mapping Super Mario RPG. I'm still debating when to continue it. Shown is a custom top view of the island I made putting custom sprites on a ripped layout of the island.

One of my ongoing mapping projects. Despite some set-backs, it's relatively easy to map. I've gotten as far as 2-2, not-quite-halfway through the Tale of the Spirit of Money. Shown is a piece from 2-2, my latest map.

Definately one of the most difficult mapping projects I have taken up, even compared to Yoshi's Island. I've mapped the Entry Passage and the first three levels of Emerald Passage. I really started it for a personal reason, but it has turned out so very fun to map, even if somewhat time-consuming. It took me a week to map out all of Beanbean Kingdom perfectly. I really only needed to go up to Hoohoo Mountain, but my enthusiasm took me all the way through until Chucklehuck Woods. I'll pick it up again once I finish that personal reason. Shown is a sample from Chateau de Chucklehuck, my latest map.

No, it's not a video version of the comics, and no, it's not a ROM hack. It's just a little idea I had, editing the graphics of various Mario and Kirby title screens to make it KvSG themed. I've made the graphics for SMB and SMB2, and am working on SMB3. Raccoon Sam is helping me put them in motion.

While I have yet to make the actual engine, I have edited 8-bit sprites and tiles to look 16-bit while not actually changing them. I'm also creating an entire new area to serve as the starting point. I also plan to recreate Crateria, Maridia, and the Wrecked Ship NES style. Shown is a sample from the new area.

My project might kill me and my computer...

Currently it has:
  • taken me well over 170 hours to sketch, and colour *thus far*
  • crashed my computer repeatedly
  • crashed work's computer repeatedly
  • caused insane rambling about "stupid fucking flowers"
  • is 44.8mb (a number that increases regularly)
  • has 23 layers (with at least... 6 more still to be added)
  • tied up over half a gig of RAM at one stage, locking up my computer
  • Causes iTunes to distort music whenever it is opened
  • Took about 7 minutes to open in Painter, and a further 5 just to zoom in
This might just be the death of me, I tell you.

And it's due on the 28th (to be ready for the 29th)

1) Thesis. I'm writing a forum system in PHP, fully object oriented an probably going to have seperate logic and interface layers by the time it's done. I could abstract the database as well, but I don't think it's worth it at the present as MySQL is breeding eight million baby bunnies at any given time while Oracle is watching TV eating Doritos.
The project is roughly one year and three months old. I'm gradually refining the system model and pondering objects, inheritance and suchlike. Once I'm happy with the way things are working I'm going to finish the design (using Borland Together) and then revise my code to match.
I've also got to write a report consisting of roughly 12,000 words. The whole shebang is due in at the end of April.

2) Applications, Architectures and Frameworks assignment. Design and construct in either Visual Basic or C# a web-service or a web site for the employees of a sandwich shop to take orders. We need to consider orders, sandwiches, ingredients, stock levels, staff, staff rotas and pricing. A whole bunch of other things to do for bonus points.

3) Case Studies in Software Design assignment. Construct a simulation of a secure facility in Java. We need to design and implement a simulation that includes employees, cards, terminals, doors, card readers, security managers & interfaces, receptionist & interfaces and a bunch of other things too.

4) Professionalism assignment. Write a report of 1000 words (between five people XD) on the professional issues surround data disclosure. This is a joke of a module.

5) Network and Systems Security. Compile a report about the security benefits, features and issues surrounding Security Enhanced Linux. Around 30 pages long.

3) Sitting in bed, drinking tea, keeping my temperature up. Thinking of my blood as a boiling kettle full of drowning bugs. Heheh, you will regret the day you infected me >=D

4) Twilight Princess. Just finished the desert temple. .

5) Got some sketches on the go. Experimenting a lot with inking images using different materials... Fineline pens, brush pens and pencils too.
Holding off colouring them in Photoshop until I can find a really nice, clean, fine finish for the lineart.

6) Got a viewing for a house next week. I'm currently living in central Sheffield in a flat that's basically three small rooms. Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom. We have our Macs next to our bed, as we don't have desks.
We're viewing a house up by Meadowhall (big mall in the UK, 5 mins trainride from here). It's furnished, 5 minutes walk from train station and mall, has two bedrooms and sofa, and a cellar. The rent is £130 less a month from what we're paying now. If it's in a good area, we should have much more room to settle down in.

Then all we have to do is sort out cable internet, phone and cable TV and we're good to go!
