If you don't know what FMP is, then go watch it. Now. It's good.
For those of you that DO know: Here's some artwork.
Sergeant Sousuke Sagara
Kurz Webber
Teletha "Tessa" Testarossa
Gauron

Enjoy. I plan on doing Melissa Mao and Kaname soon

All right, fuck it. I'm posting in my own thread.
I sure do love it when I try really hard to get a little feedback, and all I get is being shoved down under layout and sprite comic threads. This is... This is beyond me. I make this, to show to you, and I get minimal views, and no comments. This is ridiculous. I now know why Tarale stopped posting art; because no one cares about anyone posting anyting that actually requires some amount of skill.

ah fuck it, I'll post.

However don't expect something really constructive. Because you know, I suck at commenting on art.

I like them (heh, and you chose a great anime to do fan art of) but I can't exactly point it, but something about Tessa feels weird.

Personally, I don't usually give my thoughts on your drawings generally because of your attitude when you do get a comment. >>; .. Or don't. heh. And while you may not see layouts and sprite comics as art, some people put the same amount of effort into those as you do into your drawings. So it's hard for me to want to comment on your work when you're basically bashing anything that isn't 'art,' as you see it. I can see why it frustrates you and whatnot, but I think that being .. well, rude in your frustration is rather off-putting.

That said, I like the way you've drawn these. Your lines are fluid and make the sketches look natural. In a few places (for example, on Tessa's lapel) the lines go from looking smooth to a bit sloppy, but overall I think they're good. Sousuke's head shape bothers me a little bit, but I can't quite put my finger on what bothers me about it entirely. The size in comparison to the neck seems off, but I'm not sure if that's the only thing. *shrug* I think my favourite of the four is Kurz. It looks.. 'polished', for all that it still looks very loose. (I'm not very familiar with, and therefore very good at, giving technical criticism. Sorry. heh. :<)

Good luck with drawing Kaname and Melissa. :o

Gah... Aiya, I'm just stressed. I'm having severe problems at home with my parents. Honestly, I shouldn't be taking it out on you people with my opinionated point of view, but...
I just feel so frustrated. It's like, drawing is the only way for me to escape, and I want to share my escapes. And... I don't know. I dunno where I'm going with this, but you get the idea. Again, sorry.

Yeah, I noticed the Souske head thing as well, but it seemed right at the time. Well, whatever, hopefully the next too will look better.
*heavy sigh*

I don't know about others, but the reason why I avoid your threads is because of your shitty attitude. Why do you think Peardian's sprite comic has received so much attention? He puts a lot of effort into its artwork and story, and if you've read enough sprite comics (or tried to make one yourself), you'd know that it does require skill.
The things you've posted here are just uninteresting sketches. They're not bad, but they don't make me feel like commenting on them, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. You also aren't the only one to have sketches ignored.
It's great that you draw as a creative outlet, but you have to keep in mind that this board isn't an art community, and it isn't a place I'd turn to if I absolutely had to have feedback. You shouldn't be discouraged by the lack of help or praise, just draw because you enjoy doing so. There's no reason to be an ass about it.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with your family. =/ I know what that's like. (Although I don't know the exact situation and such, obviously. heh)

It's good that you have something that you enjoy that can be used as an outlet of sorts, though.

I think it would be worth noting that there aren't a lot of people (on this board? ..like YD said) who know how to give a critique on sketches and things like that. I know I certainly have trouble with it. (It's hard to pinpoint what you want to say about a piece of art, after all.. especially if you don't want to be taken the wrong way, come off as offensive, etc.)

It might be worth spending some time finding a few specific people (friends would be best, obviously) who are good at it, or feel inclined to, and asking them if they'd mind giving their thoughts on your pieces. It's natural to want feedback and comments on something you 'put out there,' but I think it's also important to realize that you won't always get it. That's just.. part of being an artist. Even in places like deviantart, for example, people create amazing things and get overlooked all the time.

(And for the grumpy bit: I also think you'd be more likely to get comments on your art if you'd stop telling everyone that their art ... isn't. If they get more comments, it might just be because there are more sprite artists and layout creators here than people who sketch and such. You could try a bit harder not to feel threatened(?) by that. >> People comment on what they know, or on things they feel strongly about. But at this rate you're more likely to get either none, or .. uhm.. rather irate comments.)

I'm kind of wondering.. when you draw, do you draw for yourself? Do you draw what you want to draw, or do you draw with a specific audience in mind? Because you'd said

.. which implies that you drew these specifically to catch the attention of people here. I'm figuring you must at least like 'Full Metal Panic!' or you wouldn't have drawn these, but I'm wondering if you wouldn't feel better if you were continuing with things like those in your 'Expanding Horizons' thread. Those may not get the kind of reactions you're looking for, but it seems to me like you enjoyed doing those more, because you were learning, or practicing something new for you, or.. whatever.

God forbid we comment on something that actually requires talent.
While you added a silly face at the end, I know that every joking statement more often than not contains truth. It seems like you feel drawing 'manga-style' art doesn't require as much talent, so.. I'm wondering why you would choose to draw something that apparently comes easily to you, when you seem like you would prefer to draw things that give you some kind of challenge. And think of it this way:

If you don't have strong feelings about what you draw, how can you expect other people to?

I think if you enjoy doing surrealistic sketches, keep working on them. Refine and polish drawing that way; maybe try working on the anatomy as well as invoking feeling with your drawings. I don't know. It's obvious to me that you were very proud of your other drawings, more so than you were of these. (Again, I could be wrong.) I'm not saying don't draw things like this at all, because you're pretty good at it, and variety is always good (and sometimes it's nice to do things you're already relatively comfortable with drawing, and such).

But I think if you're mostly just drawing things to get attention here, you're not using your art so much as an outlet, and something to be proud of, but more as a 'Look at me!' .. thing. Which may get you some attention for a while, but in the long run kind of screws over your sense of 'self' (self-esteem, I suppose). And I've found that self-esteem is pretty important if you're trying to grow as an artist. Without it, you stagnate, and become a .. 'reliable' artist. The kind where you always know what they're going to draw, and that it'll be pretty good, but.. eh. After going through a sketchbook or a 'gallery' of their work, you feel like you could have stopped after the first 5 and known just about as much as you do now, standing at the end. .. My aren't I all rambly. Anyway.

I think you have too much talent to be worrying more about the number of comments you get(or lack of comments) than the art you're creating.

(Hum. I'm noticing that I've reiterated some things that have already been said, but I'm not sure how to cut those out without making this post completely nonsensical. Ah well. Sorry for those reiterations, anyway.)
