For those of you who've ever played the SMB3 Challenge editon by X-4000 and darkmazda, I've made a full speed run of it from beginning to end, skipping only a select number of levels.

Also, if you are wondering what "Game A" is, it's basically a challenge put up by the authors to beat the whole game as tiny Mario. Along with, I've avoided using any stars.

Length: 1:10:44
Frames: 254643
Undo Count: 16831

Download the FCEUltra movie here (comes with patch, apply to an SMB3 PRG0 ROM).

EDIT: now has savestates to start at the world of your choosing.

I note an "undo" count, which leads me to believe you used save states. Did you use slowdown too, by any chance?

Such runs are usually called "tool-assisted" runs. Not that one is any better or worse than the other, but it's very important not to lump emulated runs that use slowdown/save states in with runs done on consoles (Generally refered to as simply "speedruns"), as they really have two different goals in mind, and there's enough trouble with getting people outside of the scene familiar with the distinctions.

Just saying.

I've never played this particular hack, unfortunately.

This hack is ancient, though probably the only one I've actually finished.

Like Emptyeye said though, is this a TAS?

Yeah, I was hoping the "Undo Count" would imply TAS. And yes, I kept the speed at average of 25%, going to 12% on the harder parts and 50% on the easier parts. Never went below 12% though.

I do know it's an old hack. This way I can convince bisqwit that it's the only version out there.

Still, probably one of the best hacks I've played. Seriously, its still one of my favorites.

Clearly inaccurate as TAS takes no skill, only patience D:

Well, TAS certainly requires no playing skills, but it does require other kind of skills

Tas or not it was still well done
And I can see why there is a lot of "Undo Count(s)".

Nice work SWR.

I'd say you need some playing skill because it's best to have played the game first before you try to TAS it. Then it's a matter of exploiting stuff and trying to be as precise as possible with your movements I guess.

Noting that a TAS is usually done for entertainment and to set a record, skill does not -necessarily- apply, however the best TAS-ers can make some insanely entertaining stuff.
