I want to try my hand at hacking YI, but... I find Eggvine to be a pain to use. For one, levels NEVER look ANYTHING like they do in-game in the editor (like for the main of 1-7, no ground is shown for where the Fuzzies are, but there's ground there in the game). I heard in a thread here about a missing file from Eggvine, but I forgot the link to it and what thread it was in (If someone could link me to either, I'd appreciate it). Is it actually possible to have Eggvine show exactly what the level will look like in-game while you're editing it? That'd help me out a lot, because I don't exactly "enjoy" playing trial-and-error, and Eggvine seems to require you to do that whenever you edit a level!

For your first question, I have no idea what missing file you are talking about.

For your second question, no. You can't see exactly what the level will look like in the game when you are editing. You're going to have to deal with seeing squares all the time. I was capable of making nearly 3 levels without seeing exactly how the level would look like during editing.

Yea, Eggvine was going to actually have hand-put in graphics and an updated engine at one point, but you can thank me for that not happening. I was ripping and coordinating all the graphics in the game for the new editor, but after doing about 50+ sprites and coordinates for stretching and such, I got tired of it and lost all my work eventually. I was able to recover my first few days work, but I am missing alot. I was thinking about getting Squash to start it up again, but really, it's hard work to rip everything out of the game and write coordinates for each "piece" of the sprites.

But enough of that; you're going to have to live with it. It's trial and error, and eventually when you figure out how everything works, you'll start making levels with ease. Golden Yoshi did it...

That's it. This is seriously the last straw. I am going to personally write an EggVine tutorial that covers absolutely everything about EggVine so these posts stop. It is not you, personally, that I am mad at, so don't take it this way. I am just so ticked at the fact that people can't use the program. I believe someone posted a while back - graphics will be the LEAST part of your worries after you start, trust me. And .. it's not really trial and error at all. Once you learn what the objects do, the editor is laughably easy to use, aside from a few situations.

For the missing file... err, well, what you say is rather vague. What does the file do?

(as for 1-7 - you think that's bad? Take a look at any sewer level and you may change your mind )
