| I want Cisco to win. The people at Apple seem full of themselves. Doubly so with their horrible relationship with Apple Corps, which technically owns their name to boot. Of course, I hate microsoft too, so I'm sorta without any heroes in the software/hardware/monkey world. | |||

| I don't understand this kick for having all of your personal devices integrated.
Having anything else coupled with your phone just means less battery life used solely for the phone, which is bad. and specialized devices can do thier jobs better than jacks of all trades. Plus, if you wanna let your little bro borrow your mp3 (or minidisc, I'll always love them) player when he borrows your lawn mower, you can do so because it's not also your phone. And I damn sure wouldn't wanna play video games on my phone... or have my phone in my video game system like some people have suggested. Consider the potential downsides... |

| The device itself is one of the most beautiful pieces of technology I've ever seen, and they've really gone to town on features. I particularly loved Steve's demonstration where he used Google maps to search for a nearby Starbucks for a coffee, then using the Safari browser to make a call to a branch opposite the conference centre to order 5000 lattes! XD
I'm disappointed that it's only available with a two year contract though. I'm really fed up with progressive pieces of mobile technology being tied into their contracts and phone networks, I don't believe I should have to bleed to death for the more advanced technology when I have no interest in making video calls. I'm also very disappointed that Apple haven't married the Apple TV with an announcement of iTunes TV programs and movies in the UK. Currently Apple are marketing the AppleTV purely on music videos and video podcasts- who's going to buy that? Personally, I encode all my DVDs to H264 anyway, so AppleTV should have no trouble getting through my video collection, but still I want to have easy access to TV and movie content. It's been long enough Apple, do something about it! The biggest disappointment of the week: no Leopard. Nothing at all. We didn't expect the all-in-one nature of the iPhone, combining many rumours of products we expected, but we did expect something on Leopard. I really hope it's something special, given the fact that it's the only Apple product I can afford in the first half of this year. |

| Well, having now watched the "Stevenote" with this, I am more impressed with it than before.
The interface looks gorgeous. Really, gorgeous, and I'm not talking physical appearance alone. Steve is clearly enjoying himself as he shows the audience how beautifully simple the device is to operate. Even though the device is capable of many things, it appears to be very, very easy to use -- this in and of itself is a "Killer App" for me when it comes to mobile phones. I find it an interesting move to see that it's locked down for 3rd party developers and such, but then I can see why Apple have done this too, so far. They want the device to work, first and foremost. This is a way that they can ensure the reliability of the device. I worry that a lot of networks won't like it though because they won't be able to use the iPhone to push out their "exclusive" and "cool" content. However, this disappoints me, as I have no interest in any of that crap. I want a reliable, functional, easy to use telephone that puts ME in control of what I do with it -- I don't want to be forced to interact with things through the marketing filter put in place by a telco. 
All in all, it's quite an interesting device. I hope that it does well, so that I get the opportunity to have one in Australia. |

Rogers is going to be offering the iPhone here in Q4 2007; 2 or 3 year plan and you MUST purchase a data rate with it as well - their cheapest data rate is $100/month for 200MB. So it's a no-go. |

| This is one of the nice things about having to wait so long. I will have to wait at least a year for the iPhone to be available in Australia. That sounds pretty bad, but I don't think it is.
At the moment there isn't a whole lot of Wireless (Wi-Fi) coverage across Australia, particularly in cities like Adelaide. This has been improving, so in a year's time should be better than currently. There's the possibility that the price may come down in that time too.  And that if there are any bugs and glitches that Apple will work them out as well.
Besides, I'm not expecting the handset market in Australia to change that much in a year. We still need our telco's to catch up with this kind of thing. 
I'm more than happy to wait. There's no point wanting a very shiny, but ultimately useless, device.  |
