hey i just wondered if wnyone can help me with an emulation problem.. i have 2 gb emulators, no$gmb and bgb. i also have the rom for pokemon blue. i'd often alternate between the 2 emulators when i play the game ( i like playing on bgb but i'd switch to no$ so i can trade)..

now one day, when i copy paste the save file over to no$ folder, the emulator just stopped reading the save file. all i get is NEW GAME and OPTIONS. the bgb emulator still plays thhe file save file perfectly, but no$ cannot.

i then realise.. for some unknown reason, that the save file is now 72 kb rather than the normal 32kb and thats probably why no$ cant play it

so my question is... why did the sav file become 72kb and how can i make it smaller again so no$ can play it?

It's accurately emulating a real Pokémon cartridge. Probably because No$GMB is a steaming load and bgb isn't a whole lot better. Have you tried VisualBoyAdvance? No real debugging features for GBC games, but it's great for playing the games.

Last I checked, VBA/VBALink doesn't support gameboy linking. Or if it does, it doesn't seem to work for Pokemon games.

BGB is probably the best Gameboy/Color emulator out there, thanks.

(It runs full speed on a crappy 250MHz, for god's sake)

Im very happy with bgb... if only i caould trade, then i would have no need for other gb emulators.
I also use VBA for GBA games. its good but it doesn't solve my problem unfortunately

It emulates well but its interface makes me want to start fires. For that matter, No$GMB ran full speed on my 66mhz 486 (assuming I ran it in DOS), but its bugs make it a pain to use as well.

You seem to be missing the point, Alice. He's switching back and forth between emulators so that he can trade Pokemon with himself.
And last I checked, VisualBoy Advance doesn't have gameboy link support.

Then he'll have to start backing up his saves before using them in No$GMB. Play in VBA, back up, trade in No$GMB. (Or better yet trade in BGB if you can work its interface, as it has less bugs.)

The problem is, the file grew in size before i played it on No$. i had a backup of the file in the no$ folders, but when i copy/pasted the updated sav file (after playing on bgb) it replaced the old save file (at the time i hadnt noticed that the file was now 72kb instead of the old 32kb).
After playing around with no$ settings i realised that it doesnt play sav files over 32kb (they normally shouldnt be higher than that..... i think) so i concluded that the problem revolves all around the growth in file size which i dont know how happened.
Now i have no backup besides the sav file that is now mysteriously 72kb in size.
btw my knowledge on programming is very limited so it could be a very simple problem that i can't seem to get around.
If i play on VBA it wouldnt make a difference the file is already 72kb. it plays the file fine just like bgb, but my problem is that i cant play the sav file on no$ in order to trade.

and LOL i have no idea how to work bgb's interface, im pretty stupid with that kinda stuff... but if i am able to trade on bgb then that would be fantastic. there would be no reason whatsoever for no$ to plague my hard drive

VBA still loads the save file OK? Try renaming it while VBA is running, then save and see if it makes a new one the correct size.

OMG i finally fixed it.... i first did what you said Alice, and even though i didnt get the desired effect, interesting things did happen, which gave me another idea... heres what happened..

First i played the save file on VBA and did what Alice said, i received a new pokemon blue sav file that was 40kb. That got me happy a bit. when i copy/pasted it over to no$ files, unfortunately no$ couldnt play the game AT ALL...

I played that same sav file on bgb, and it played just fine... expept now the sav file became 33kb. i was like WTF?????? when i played it on no$ however, it did the same thing in the beginning... (it played the game but not the sav file)..

I also have another crappy gb emulator called rew. so i decided to see what would happen this time if i played the file on rew. it played it just fine, and afterwards the file became.... wait for it... 32KB!!!!

and um.. well... no$ finally played it

so... thanks Alice for your suggestion, it gave me the idea to try it on rew. The only mystery is why it became 72kb in the first place
