Bio World is a Super Mario Bros. 3 hack

This hack includes various new features and 3 totally new power-ups.

Water Mario:
When Mario get a water flower, he transform into Water Mario, Water Mario can shoot waterballs and run faster than usual. He also has the abillity to transform in a frog when he comes in contact with water. Finally he has unlimited breath (see the air meter section for more detail).


Koopa Mario:
This is without doubt the power-up that makes people know about Bio World. Much like the one in New Super Mario Bros, it allows you to transform in a shell and dash throught ennemy, but, unlike the NSMB one, you don't automaticaly enter in shell form (the current version of this power-up is beta and lacks the abillity to break bricks and activate ? blocks).

Chuck Mario:
Having Chuck power give a great physical enhancement to Mario, allowing him to jump higher and kill most ennemy with one stomp. He's also invincible while dashing, so this one is definitely speedrunner's favorite.

StopWatch:
It stop time, press select to activate it and press select again to desactivate it, each stopwatch can be used for 30 second (but they can be stacked for a maximum of 99 seconds) this power-up can't be used with the master suit


Master suit:
Allow you to change current power-up with select
Other ASM hacks:

Day/Night system
Everytime you beat a level or you die in a level, you switch from day to night or from night to day. At night, Hammer Bros are sleeping. Sun doors are open during the day, and moon doors are open during the night. These door will be vital to reach some areas.


Air meter
Like in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, Mario can only stay in water for a limited period of time. If the meter reaches zero before Mario get to the surface of water, you lose an extra live (Water Mario has unlimited breath).

World name
Like in Mario adventure, part of the status bar displays current world's name. World 1 is currently called 'Den river', however, it is a sucky name. I couldn't think of a better name. Fell free to post it if you have nice idea for a name.

Character select:
like in smb2j, nothing new here

Other random minor ASM hacks:
Star lasts twice as long
Racoon Mario can use the statue abillity
Fire Mario is immune to fire projectile attack
Goal card give item

know bug:
Match card bonus is somewhat glitchy
Bommerang Bros. pattern is glitched

Wow, the rom hacking in smb3 is awesome *patches the rom and start playing* wow, nice level desing and the OW is really good. It's a very awesome hack.
Edit: The power ups are funny, but i can't see any of them

here the location of them:
Spoiler:

Water Flower: in a chest at the end of 1-6, in a giant ? block in 2-3
Koopa suit: in a giant ? block in 2-1
Chuck suit: secret chest in 1-castle2, toad house behind the locked door in world 2 map
StopWatch: secret chest in 1-3, toad house in world 1
Master suit: clear world 1, secret exit in 1-1
Goomba's shoe: Fire brother in world 2 map

Nicely done!

I am pleased with the results of this hack, and am looking forward to more of this kinda work in the future.


The power-ups were unique, though the Master Suit wasn't so special.

Unbelievable job bio. Everything is superb. Level design, graphics, overworld are all wonderful. Not to mention the various Asm stuff. Fire bros are immune to Marios fireballs, awesome new power ups, boom boom room clears...I can go on and on. You have really inspired me to make my SMB3 hack even better.

The only problems I found were: Massive slow down in the world 1 ship level. All those bob-ombs and bullets were too much for my emulator

Also, I got stuck here, you should always leave a safe path back to pipes.

That was very great.
Although there's a glitch in the pyramid level with the Yoshi eggs.
Instead of taking one with you, duck and jump above them. Then rise up, and you'll slide through ground to the other side.

And why does the bar at the bottom bounce?

That problem plagues almost all SMB3 hacks. Whenever big Mario can squeeze thru and 1 brick tall area, and there is a wall to his right, he will glitch straight through it when he stands up. I have been very conscious of this glitch in my SMB3 hack and yet I still find myself making the mistake when I test play through my levels.

Bio, I have also noticed that some boomerang bros in Moon level 1 don't move at all. Also in that level the timer will stop for no reason. (No I'm not using the stop watch power). Also those black fish seem to swim backwards, intentional? And the Moon world final ship level is way too easy since the low gravity lets you jump on to the "roof" and be totally safe.

I'm just letting you know of these things so you know I played through it completely (and loved it all) This hack is already a 10/10.

I eagerly await your next demo.

like I mentionned in my first post, bommerang bros. pattern is glitched, I'm not sure exactly why it has hapenned(I probably overwrote the wrong byte), I will have to diassamble the bommerang bros. code in the original

it's probably caused by the instantly defeated boom-boom you meet half-way throught the level, I will set the time to 0 in that level so it won't look odd

this is an issue in the original game, but those fish were unused

Nice demo Bio, I really like the work you put into it, I love the Koopa Suit, right now it's my favorite suit. I can't wait for the final product, if you ever want some levels done in the future, feel free to gimme a holla okay?

I got a weird glitch. In world 1-2, it suddenly spawned a toad sprite, switched to "Oh No The King has been transformed" then warped me to a bonus level.

I think the Chuck power-up could make the game a tad too easy. I think you should remove the invincibility side-effect, and keep the other two powers. Chuck seems to way too un-balanced now.

What emulator does this work best on? Nestopia doesn't seem to play it.

Furthermore, you'd be shocked just how much of a pain it is to find a decent SMB3 rom.

Try FCEUXD SP 1.06, plays the hack with no prollem at all.

Alright, so, it's been a little bit. I spent a good amount of time fiddling, and a number of levels had that special way out. so yeah...

Moon level 2, I don't care for. It's unorthodox in just how easy it is by comparison. However, Moon 3, with the underwater? Yeah, Water Mario is a fuzzing blast.

I'm at the last level of this hack. I can't wait to see the finished product. My only complaint is that Water Mario is too fast- I keep getting hit. And with a Master Suit in effect.... That's a problem. All in all, it's really fun, but.... How can there be a secret exit to World 1-1? It's obvious you'd need a certain Power-Up for that, but at that point, the only powerups you can get are Super Mushroom and Fire Flower. Any hints as to its location?

Good. I found that one. I was wondering why you didn't mention it in the spoiler.... XD

Well, I beat the hack. Already? But it was getting good! I like how you did those Sun/Moon Doors. Are you going to keep the Overworld Pipes, or are you going to turn them into something else? Are you planning on adding a new ability to Chuck Mario? I miss the Hammers.

Edit: By the way, you might want to change the Secret Exit to World 2-1. That You was SO obvious when I got it, and I didn't even get the NORMAL exit! Plus, good players will be able to reach it easily, especially considering how good the Powerup you get at the start is...

Yeah... I miss the hammers. And the problem with chuck is that there often, I've found, isn't any space for any serious dashing. Too many beasties.
