Am I glad to be leaving? Not really. I enjoyed my time here, helping people out. It was good to finally be able to take the board somewhere, from being stagnant years ago.
But then again, a lot of things I did didn't really help. I mean, hell: a graph I made smacked me in the face with a big fat decline since I took over.
Then there's things like ||bass going behind my back and adding FreeDOS as a server admin. Not quite that bad, except I was under the impression we were in this together -- I was pretty much the webmaster, he was the server administrator (In short: I kept the board happy, he kept the server happy, we each got to enjoy it mostly free thanks to the ads).
Obviously, this was not the case.
I wouldn't have been so pissed off if I had simply been alerted of this or had a chance to discuss it -- such as "Why not just keep him around if something does go wrong", etc. Hell, ||bass never even told me about it until hours after it was done -- FreeDOS actually told me himself, before ||bass. Considering ||bass and I were the only ones with server access (minus Acmlm, since he never uses it...), it was... well, meh. I would've at least liked to know so I could go through and change my passwords, as the MySQL user I use has a password I use in various other places.
Go forward a bit more, FreeDOS is "fixing" other things in the board. Okay, not terribly bad, except now when I edituser myself, quotes are changed to some garbage string like &x34; or whatever, breaking it. It's the same in EditProfile, because FreeDOS didn't take enough time to actually implement it correctly -- there's a function before the output that changes quotes into the escaped string, and simply changing that to read htmlspecialchars() would've fixed the problem entirely with no (or few) side effects that could be repaired via testing.
Having to revert his changes to fix something pissed me off too, since if he had a) alerted me or b) bothered to do research, it could've been fixed without sideeffects. And yes, custom titles in editprofile are still broken that way; thanks for alerting me, BMF.
Past that, I added a small line to protect my sent PMs from being read by anyone they weren't addressed to. It wasn't clear at the time, but I was going to delete them after they had been read by who they were sent to and then remove the protection. FreeDOS thought it would be a grate idea to go ahead and remove this, and I saw him browsing my PMs -- needless to say, among everything else that had happened that week, board related or not -- I blew pretty much every gasket I had.
So I banned him.
And then I kept doing it. Of course, throughout this, FreeDOS only contacted me once (to say something along the lines of "stop banning me already"), ||bass hadn't said shit, etc...
Eventually, 550 Permission Denied. I was expecting it, honestly, so I go ahead and open FZ to see what happened.
All board files and directories are now r--r--r--, meaning I can't write to them, and changing them back doesn't work (suprise). In short, my board write permissions ceased to exist.
Still, no contact from ||bass or FreeDOS about this. Assume they've revoked it, have a nice day, I'm leaving.
The real gold is when they decide to accuse me for the MySQL server going down. I know who it was (and I'm not telling, but it was was an unintended side effect :P), but it's funny.
||bass brings on FreeDOS because I can't execute a simple "mv shit to shit2" command, and yet he somehow thinks I'm competent enough to kill the MySQL server?
What?
Okay, let me stop laughing for a minute... alrighty.
Seriously, though, I can't really trust ||bass or FreeDOS not to do this shit again, and I don't want to try. I've been considering moving the board to somewhere else, as ||bass explicitly stated he "didn't care about the board at all" (so I could handle it and actually try and involve Acmlm again, instead of pestering ||bass for five days to get him an account and so on)... but I had nowhere to go, and ||bass owns the "acmlm.org" domain.
tl;dr: I can no longer trust ||bass or FreeDOS to not go behind my back and fuck everything over, so I'm leaving.
Besides, FreeDOS has made it readily apparent that he's "better" and has been taking over my job anyway, so it's no real loss.
