I remember hearing about this a few years ago, but I thaught it was just crap. (Probably cause i couldnt pull it off..) that goes for the clonig hats thing too.. I dont know how, but my friend got to play Mario without his hat on... Time to go dust off the old N64, collect some money and go to GameStop!

I decided to watch the tool assisted one. That is some crazy crazy shit. I can do some of it half the time but most of it seems incredibly hard to pull off, even with tools.

No, it's here. A run done without tool assistance. Both are worth watching, though.

Can I get a link to the 120 star speedrun? It sounds awesome if they did it in just 2 hours.

Even if you don't have two hours to spare, watch it anyway. It's too damn good.

That's an awesome speed run, I must say. I used to love SM64 and liked to fool around with glitches for it, but that's one I hadn't seen before. Though the only glitches I could do with any sort of reliability were the one where you fall through the castle wall and the one where you "clone" your hat using the warps after it falls off.

I understand that but I do not see its relevance. Yes it is the backwards long jump. It is also what is used to do this and nothing has really been done to distinguish the trick from... The trick, so feh...

As in, BLJ is just the backwards jump.

I always called the rapid movement gained from repeatedly using it on stairs the "HOLYSHITMYASSISONFIRE" trick, but...

Xk, uh.

What.

What does that have to do with anything.

Also, yes it is commonly known as that.

I'm pretty sure that's the move you use to climb up stairs, not the climbing itself.

Isn't this "technique"/"move" commonly known as Backwards Long Jump (or BLJ for short) or something?

I tried doing a speed run after seeing the 16 star run. Did it at a friends house since I haven't had a N64 in ages. Beat it in 26 minutes. Woo.

I have done this many times on my N64. It's hard to do, because you have to be fast at pressing A, but it's doable by humans.

I've also seen a video where the backwards jump thing is used to get inside the aquarium by the entrance to Jolly Roger Bay. I could never pull it off on flat ground OR stairs though.

This video is a 16-star run of SM64. The backwards jumping upstairs happens at about 17'40".

does anyone have a video of this?

For a brief moment, you clip the next set of stairs up and can long jump, gaining a bit of momentum each time. Since there are so many stairs, after a few repetitions you go fast enough to appear on the other side of whatever over the course of a single frame; thus, no collision detection occurs, and you go straight through.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
