Psst, AlexAR, judging from the screenshot you're not using the latest release of SMB3WS.
Also, you can stick this updated config.ini in the program's data directory and then you'll be able to edit the items Princess Peach gives you from inside SMB3WS (Edit -> Edit Miscellaneous).

Hack's looking nice, can't wait to play it.

OMG, why didn't anyone tell me? Thanks hukka. What I'm finding most useful though, is that docs folder that appeared after I installed your new version. Notes from DahrkDaiz himself? Where were you 5 posts back? lol thanks again hukka

Edit:
Wow, this is weird..I drew that exact same sprite a little while ago Dr. Mario. You did exactly what I did, just fill in Toad's hat to make it look like a Hammer Bros shell. I have been thinking of doing something like this instead though.

Check the video out.

How about something like this for the Hammer Suit?

After every attempt I make to draw Toad in the Frog Suit or Hammer Bros Suit....I cry
Eventually, I will get. But I'm feeling weird/unworthy if I release my hack with without modified powers. Bio's and DahrkDaiz's hacks have set the bar about 10 meters above my head. I'm not sure what to do. Quite frankly, I just want to make fun and interesting levels, and not worry about the power suits. Will people burn me at the stake if my hack contains no Frog/Hammer Bros suit?

I think I'm noticing a trend here.... Dharkdaiz's notes are a holy grail apparently. Not only because of their usefulness, but mostly because they are so hard to find. Why aren't all of these incredibly useful notes on Romhackign.net or something. Datacrystal's info is very limited and whenever I search for SMB3 data or SMB3 info, I get crap from this wierd assbackward funky website

But whatever, I believe I have enough info now to stop bitching for awhile.
The only info I need left are Mario's overworld and intro scene palettes.

Oh, and thanks for very much Googie.

Edit:
Interesting fact, that actually makes perfect sense:

Those item ID's are the same for the treasure chest sprite. Sprite #214 in SMB3 Workshop labeled, "puts item in treasure chest." The Y position of this sprite determines the item placed inside the Treasure chest item, sprite #82. Placing sprite #214 at the very top (Y position 0) of the level gives you nothing in the treasure chest.

Y position 1 = Mushroom
2 =Flower
3 = Leaf and so on just like the list Googie provided.

Im wondering if the toad houses use this same list as well.

Does anyone know how I could change what items you receive after defeating a koopa kid. You know, the items you get along with a letter from Peach.

I'm in a helpful mood today, so here's some of Daiz's notes from a couple of years back...

======Item Table for What Princess Gives You======
Begins at 0x360DE with 1st byte being world 1.

00 = Nothing
01 = Mushroom
02 = Fire Flower
03 = Leaf
04 = Frog Suit
05 = Tanooki Suit
06 = Hammer Bros. Suit
07 = Jugem's Cloud
08 = P-Wing
09 = Starman
0A = Anchro
0B = Hammer
0C = Whistle
0D = Music Box

Each Byte Corresponds to World number. I.E 0x360DE = World 1 Item, 0x360DF = World 2 Item. World 7 Item = 0, but you can change that. There is no World 8 item.

Nice level designs too.

Hell, with 6 colors at my disposal, I could draw a Toad that would rival Super Mario Allstars's Toad. But that's the last of my worries.

I don't want any level-skipping clouds, or sleep inducing music boxes cluttering up space for real power-ups. I want to use the hammer item liberally in my overworlds, so it would be nice if Peach gave Toad that instead a useless P-wing (No flying in my game thanks to Dwedit)

Level creation is still going smoothly..*knocks on wood* And don't freak out, these are some of the harder, optional levels. My hack will NOT be stupidly hard.

I'm not an expert at NES hacking, but from what I see you only are using three colors. I know Megaman somehow got around this, could you do that and make Toad have a black outline, but with red spots? It's looking nice so far!

I like how this is coming along, looks pretty good so far, what are you going to do a far as Toad carring items etc. it looks a little out of place. Keep up the great work tho!

Well for now these will be the colors. Black and white for regular and red outline for fire Toad. Tanoki Toad will look just like raccoon toad but with a stone palette (Grey).

I still haven't really figured out the pipe system perfectly, but I'm finding workarounds. What I am having trouble with now are Toad's palettes in the over world and beginning intro. I was able to use FCEUXD to change Toad;s palette in the levels easily. But I cant use the same method on Toad's over world palette, it just don't work.

Does anyone know the location of Mario's palette in the overworld and intro scene?

I like #6, the colours seem to blend best there. #1 would be good for Fire Toad.

Which one do you guys think it should be.

I really think 3 looks the best and most natural with Mario 3 surroundings, and that 1 would be the best "Fire Toad," since it actually uses the same look as Fire Mario. The orange outline makes him look "hot," (lol that's the only way I could think to say it) while changing his (hat?) and pants to red just looks to me like a different outfit, and doesn't give me as much of an indication that he's "powered-up."

I guess the black and white toad wins, unless more people voice their opinion.

I wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with the SMB3 map editor, smb3map. Its an incredibly useful app and very simple to use. Sort of... I have had no problems with pointers or tiles or anything, except the damn pipes. You know, the green overworld pipes that when you enter, you travel thru a 1 screen room, then emerge in another pipe in the overworld.

I have read the read me file covering the pipe editor over and over and I believe I know how it works. Its written kinda badly. No matter what I do I cant get it to function correctly. Either I emerge in the wrong spot stuck and unable to move, or I emerge in the same pipe I entered.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

I like any of the Toads with a black outline (3,5,6,7,8). The colored outlines look funny, as nearly everything else in Mario's universe is outlined in black.

I really like 3, it really stands out for me as the best and most normal looking.
