I still need to find the game. Might pick up another DS game this week but it won't be FF3 if I keep running into stores that don't have it in stock.

As long as it's fun, like the original from what I played of it. That's all I ask.

Well, I've been playing it more lately. I like the job system, it adds a really nice touch to the game. If I had one complaint though, it would be the Save feature. Sure, there is quicksave, but it shuts your power off - and personally, after going through a whole dungeon, dying at the boss, and then having to restart from the overworld, is a bit annoying.

I wish it was like other Final Fantasys that had save points in the dungeons - or maybe I just haven't encountered any yet _¬
I don't remember any in the original, either, actually. Could be wrong there though. Either way, that's something I would expect them to have in the game for the DS version. I remember the last dungeon being just plain scary because of a lack of save points... but the challenge to it is pretty rewarding at the same time. It'd just make more sense to have them, nonetheless.

This is a decent game... but I haven't touched it much since I bought it. See, I bought Portrait of Ruin the same day. I played FF III first and made decent progress. PoR has entertained me much more thoroughly. But this game is not bad per se.

Is this a "must have title" or can I be all awesome like and get another title for my forecoming DS?

It's the original but in 3D and with a new translation, if that makes any sense.

This game is one of the best Final Fantasy, but i have a doubt : is this a remake of the original?

I picked this up around the time it came out.

... haven't played it yet.

I bought FFV Advance at the sametime, and just decided to start playing that first I guess, and I've been tied up with other games.

But yeah, I should definitely play this game sometime.

Correct. It was the only Final Fantasy game never to hit the states, as FF 2 and 4 were released in another compilations, or something to that sort.

2 and 5, Shadic. We got a simplified FFIV (FFII on SNES). We didn't get FFV until PSX.

Eh, crap. That's what I meant. Should probably not post right after waking up. Even though that's what I'm doing right now...

I should be playing it a whole bunch, but I'm distracted by other things, such as Yoshi's Island DS.

I have it, but I preferred the original (I downloaded a translated rom).

I despise them

Spoiler:
making the onion knight a secret class and lowering the power of the ninja and sage

Also, I think the 4 brothers was kind of cooler.

Spoiler:
it also made more sense when you saw the 4 fake heroes... they looked alike and so did you at one point.

not to mention the fact that they

Spoiler:
ruined the whole fake heroes scenario by making the townspeople know they were fakes. in the NES version, they thought YOU were the fakes, if I remember correctly.

It was released solely in Japan. We could only play it in FF: Anthology for PSX up until FF V Advance was released recently. Speaking of which, that's another great game.

Oh ok. I never played any of the NES FFs, only the SNES and beyond, so this game should be fun to beat.

So yeah, this is a completely different game than the "Final Fantasy III" Read: VI that hit our shores back in the SNES era.

I have beaten the original NES version, which wasn't released in the U.S.. It was quite good, marked the beginning of the job system, and was a huge step up from I and II in the series, but it was quite flawed at the same time as far as gameplay was concerned. From what I've seen, this one is quite different as far as Final Fantasy remakes go (playable characters now have names and personalities, tag-along NPCs now have attacks, etc.) but I think it is about the same game in premise.

Topic validity aside, I find this game rather entertaining.

I've gotten a bit more into the game, have characters around 18. Thinking about changing my classes though. Right now, I have two warriors, and a white and black mage.

Them black belts are looking mighty tempting to convert to...

That thread was made well before the game came out in places other than Japan... And reviews by people who can't wait for a translation into their own language tend to be rather skewed.

As I stated in IRC as well, if you are suggesting he perform a three month bump instead of the accepted practice of making a new thread asking people's opinions, then uh. I would disagree on that point.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
