that's never happened to me before.

And I guess it all depends on how experienced you are. I've always been a programmer and have been blissfully ignorant of hardware issues, combine that with the fact that I'm still a new linux user? I don't want to configure every mundane detail. I just want the benefits of GNU/Linux in an easy to install and mantain manner.

Yeah, go with Debian, Ubuntu isn't anywhere near as good as its parent

it's a new OS base on linux and so far I like it pretty well.

If you were to decide to go with Ubuntu, I'd recommend Xubuntu instead. Basically Ubuntu + XFCE, which is a great and simple way to boost your performance.

Yeah... ME is garbage... My mom has it on her computer because she wanted to be up to date... >> Even though everyone else in the house advised her not to... >> Anyways: It's garbage. Absolute garbage. Worst OS EVER!

Ive never tried but I will soon tho when I find it.

also im using Windows 2000 Pro on my machine.. I love it. It has the best out of Win 98 and Xp combined in my opinion.

But all i have to say is dont use Windows ME. Trust me on that one..

Go with Windows 2000, it's perfect for a such system. Windows 2000 with the latest SP is not too far from being Win XP.

Yes both are right, but Windows Xp doesnt work fine with 128 MB RAM. Unless that you CPU would be 1 GHZ.

Yea when I was volunteering for a non profit group called computers 2 kids I was working with P3 450 with 256mg's of memory. They were running XP pro plust a whole bunch of things that were lagging them down hardcore.

I think that 600-650 mhz is the least you should have when going for XP. But you never know you might get lucky and find a P1 with XP on it like I did =D

I had a 550MHz P3 with Windows XP for a long time. It could play Diablo 2 and barely Warcraft 3. I had 320 megs of RAM though.

You can install Windows 98, Windows Me or Windows 2000. But If you are thinking about Linux, i suggest Red Hat Linux.
