No it wasn't. You didn't say anything remotely like that. You just gurgled something twisted about reason.

Has title editing caused any real problems on any board, ever? If it does get abused then just ban the abuser.

This feature is somewhat useful, so add it.

You should get to edit it a maximum of one time so we don't get morons going "ZOMG NEW TITLE." I can see why and why not.

I agree, except, it seems to me that it would do more good than it would bad; any idiot who would abuse this is more than likely just that, an idiot, who would likely be dealt with quickly (and furthermore, they may have done something else just as stupid which would generate the same end result in all likelihood). There are many cases in which people simply mistype a letter or so, and then to have someone else fix it for you is usually just an extra unnecessary step. Updating a thread title with a date or something of that nature is also a good reason to implement this.

Thread title editing could be possible. But those with red names can't edit them.

Along this theory, abusers would get thier name in a designer red colour.

What could idiots do by editing their thread title that they couldn't by editing their post? I see no reason not to allow it. (And icon, for that matter.)

I really don't know why people shouldn't be able to. It would be very useful for release threads, comics (Last update: xxxx) and the like, and will probably be abused by idiots, which you would then report to the local authorities and we stick broomsticks up asses. You know how it goes.

I'm honestly not sure why we can't, to me it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

I myself, typing very quickly have made spelling mistakes in thread titles before. I'm sure many others have too. We could contact staff about it, but it would be pretty out of their way and probably could be handled much more quickly if the person themself could just do it.

So yeah, I've seen it on just about any other board system, so I say why not? It wouldn't hurt in anyway.

Also, threads like the ACS get new names all the time. Although its from staff, its just an example that it can be handled perfectly fine with a poster who knows what they're doing.

I don't mind doing trivial duties, as they don't take very long at all.

Thinking about it, most of the reasons I had not to let a normal user do it involve stuff they'd be reprimanded for anyway, and they could be disruptive in other ways if they wanted to, so feh. It having to be programmed in is probably the main reason, then... Eh.

I could potentially see some confusion occur in cases where some users edit a thread title multiple times, for "fun". Which I wish I could rule out as even a remote possibility.

Alastor: Let me see if this is what you are trying to say:

-You'd rather be contacted to do something trivial which in most cases is to fix a typo or slight error than let a user do it themselves.
-You have many reasons not to let a normal do this (what are they?)

Not that I think this is a huge deal but I fail to see why you think this is such an open-shut case. The only real drawback I see to it is that you'd have to get a programmer to implement it... and well... that happens sporadically.

No, they shouldn't. There's not really any reason to, and there's a fair number of reasons not to. If you need something changed, just contact an appropriate staff member - there's almost always someone on who can do something that needs doing.

Do we even get a "please" with that?

It's a suggestion, but you've worded it more like some almighty demand.

The creator of the thread should be able to edit the thread name and icon.
