The only beef i have with hackster is the the bug that happens when you have too many different elements in a standart map (pointer miscalculation after compression? i've never really looked at the source...)

Sometimes I'm amazed Hackster works at all.

I swear I must've been stoned or something back in the day.

This is due to a bug in FFHackster itself: I recently ran into it myself, though the pattern was slightly different from what yours is. You just simply have to blank that tile back to black to get around it.

The standard map editor is by far the buggiest part of Hackster, as I've ran into 3 or 4 issues with it over the course of hacking Dragoon X Omega II (Two of which I would consider fatal bugs).

You either wrote over the blank tile for the menu backgrounds, or somehow screwed up the drawing routine for the menus. If you did some Hex editing, it might have been the latter.

Can we see screenshots of the error?

I reverted to my last saved (and working) version of the rom. I then tried repeating step by step every change I made, and I haven't been able to re-create the error. I guess I either have missed something or the rom I was working on before randomly got corrupted somehow. Either way, I think I'll just continue as normal, I'll just test a lot more often and save backups more often.

Maybe you edited a different "blank tile?" Compare yours with the original and see what's different.

I was changing some of the dungeons in FF1 and I had gone a while without testing or saving a backup copy (I know, it's my own stupid fault), and suddenly when I tested it, the background tiles of the battles, menu screen, and opening menu (the new game / continue screen) were junk instead of black. In fact, in battle, when an enemy dies, instead of being erased with black, it's erased with junk in the palette colors of that enemy!

Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this or if there's any way to fix it without reverting the rom completely?

Thanks
