I would like to see them make a prequel to the movie rather than a sequel. To me it would explain alot that was said in the movie.

Really? I god no idea that they were responsible for a string of bad endings. Good to know. I can avoid wasting head space on that stuff.

The difference is that Eva was done by Gainax. Gainax is notorious for bad endings (Eva, Kare Kano, Mahoromatic, Gunbuster..)

I actually didn't really like Akira... Maybe it's because I thought the voices were annoying, but overall it just wasn't really all that the hype suggested. Maybe I'm just disillusioned. It was, after all, the anime that pretty much started America on the craze.

By coincidence, without even looking, I found the DVD of Akira...for $8 dollars!

It was the last copy on the stand. What a stroke of luck I have.

Akira is my all time fav anime, it wassn't the first one i saw but it was the first dubbed one i saw (and with dubbed i actully mean subbed, becaus the first few animes i saw back in the 80's where all dubbed here in Sweden)

if you haven't already seen this movie, do it now.

I remember watching it when I first got Dish, and I had the stars channels back then. I heard people say pretty good stuff about it, so i actually stayed up at 1 in the morning to watch it. It was pretty good, but nothing I'd watch again. Tetsuo has a big forehead. XD

If you want a random anime, then watch the hokuto no ken movie. 109 episodes in an 1 1/2 hour movie. Worst idea ever. And with its 80s motifs, it manages to make the anime even cheesier.

That is because they tried to fit a whole entire comic book series into two hours. Read the manga then everything will make sense... I know a lot of people say it a lot, but INDEED THE MANGA IS FAR SUPERIOR to the movie.

I watched it to death back in jr. high school. It's not that great. But then, I've seen it like three dozen times, so obviously the edge has worn off a little.

It's longer, has many more characters, fleshes the story out more, and has a lot of more interesting conflicts/relationships and it's of course more violent(because its a manga) and I prefer THAT course of events rather than the movie's.

Yea. I have been meaning to pick it up but I just have never gotten the chance or money to do so. Ive read bits and peices of it tho and I would really like to read more.

Um, this thread has already been made. In the previous incarnations of this board. It has been discussed to death..

I saw it. I liked it. Even though when I saw it the DVD was messed up and at times stalled but certainly one of my favorites.

This anime was the very first anime I have ever seen and will always be on my top 3 list as far as I can tell.

Quick description:

Years ago, Tokyo was destroyed by an unknown force. Now, in the middle of the 21st century, Neo Tokyo has been rebuilt on the ruins of the old city. Ravaged by aimless youths and bike gangs and all the accouterments of a cyberpunk society, this new city a sight to behold. Somewhere on the underbelly of the city, a young punk, Tetsuo runs into a strange boy. The boy is part of a military experiment involving psychics, and a mysterious being known as Akira. Before long, Tetsuo begins to manifest psychic powers, along with bizarre hallucinations, and to make matters worse, the government takes interest in his abilities. Things only get weirder from there on...

Pics... well one is my layout and here's a few others

Has anyone else seen this anime? If so what did you think of it?
