I'm planning to invest in a tablet and Painter if I get a job next year I'm still pretty much limited to Photoshop's path tool to ensure that my lines are all fairly straight for the lineart and the hair. Fabric I tend to do by hand using 100% opacity for the shadow and around 20% opacity when brushing in highlights.
The skin I do using 20% opacity all over.

What is really holding me back is the amount of detail I can put into shading the fabic- something that requires more precision than hair and skin because of folds and creases. Hopefully this is something that will become easier to do and less time-consuming with a tablet. This drawing alone took about 6-7 hours spread out across a whole day I think

I'm at work, so my critique here is going to be extremely limited:

Try to use less airbrush. It looks a bit "plastic" in a few spots because it's *too* smooth.

I found my best bet in photoshop was to use a brush tool on a low opacity and "paint" in stuff, a little like shading with a pencil. This also allows more detail

If you can get your hands on Painter, I recommend playing around with the "Captured Bristle" paint tool. At least, this was one of my favourites for painting with, because it has a fun texture with it.

Yeah, that's the one thing I could've easily fixed with this drawing- everything else I'm aiming to improve upon in future drawings- like the hands- they take a long time to get right in every drawing :\

I wouldn't say its your perspective, not at all.
Your facial anatomy as a whole is kinda... messed up. The chin comes too far back into the head. The back of the skull should curve smoothly into the neck, not sharply into the jaw, like what that's implying. Also, the mouth shouldn't be that far back into the head. That's what's throwing it off a bit, in my eye.
Also, the hand is annoying me. The fact that the thumb is nothing more than a smaller than normal finger is irritating me. It also lacks depth. Needs more shading there.
THe coloring job, though, is amazing. I love it, even though its lacking around the legs, and the skirt shows no shading or looseness. Right now, it looks like she's wearing a hard plastic loincloth, more than anything else. Her upper thigh/right ass cheek has no shading whatsoever. That irritates me.

Thank you, Kasumi, for posting real artwork. I admire that, and I respect that.
Now if only I got at least ONE comment. Christ.

I think that because I only drew one eye it screwed up my sense of perspective a little. I tried moving around the facial features, but with hiddeous results. Think Sloth from The Goonies XD

With things like these, I don't really mind as long as they can be corrected in Photoshop or improved upon in further sketches. Seeing as the eye is positioned as in my sketch, I've decided to leave it as it is and try to make sure it looks better in the future.

Hmm...it's really not half bad. The only real quarrel I'd have with it would be the eye. Seems like it's too far in when it should be farther out and maybe obscured by her bangs a bit rather than right out there. It just feels like something in that is messed, like the head found a way to tilt oddly.

Otherwise, pretty good.

I've been thinking over starting a webcomic for a very long time, I've just never had the time or the skill to do it. I've had a few ideas, but because it took me so long to ink and colour drawings, I got bored before I finished a single drawing.
Now my skills have improved, I've been thinking about settings and characters, so I've set about some character and costume design.



This is character reflects me- I'd like a comic that did echo myself, my life and my friends in some way- except the character is an MMORPG avatar. I'm planning on setting the comic in an MMO, and picking up on the odd behaviour people exhibit in online games and how they choose to express themselves when not constrained by their natural looks.

My character would in real life be pretty much me, but her avatar is a more feminine interpretation of her- she would most probably be a priest. I'm not planning on using this quality drawinging in a comic, this is purely for character and costume design only.

I'm especially happy with this drawing, I feel I've come a long way in the year in terms of art. The shading in the hair is only the second time I've used the technique in a drawing. I've also spent more time inking and colouring the face than before. The original sketch also incorporates a few things I've learned when trying to accurately draw physiology. I'm personally not happy with the elbow and I'm still practicing my hands, but otherwise it's my best to date
