I don't believe I have ever gotten yelled for being on the internet too much. I mainly only use it for studies and forums anyway. As far as losing weight, I work 40 hours a week now, so my weight isn't that bad. I probably could stand to lose about 5 pounds though.

I hardly call three days a bump...

As for myself, uhm... pretty much same as blackhole. Well I probably need to lose some weight and spend more time moving, but my life otherwise isn't really hurt by my internet usage. And for each day, I seem to do more constructive stuff on my own... such as programming.

For me, if you spend an overload of hours just wasting on hacking and slashing in MMORPGs (Like over 5 hours, 6, I don't know, a whole day!?), it can be bad. I mean, if you start playing in the night and then the morning rears up its head, it can get really tiring. The only effect I get through going on the net a lot is an aching anus and that's it. Also, at least it's better than other things, spending a bunch of time on the computer. XD

I still get a lot of complaints from both my parents, which I kind of can understand (though that doesn't even remotely mean I agree) seeing as I tend to spend the whole 14 hours a day I am up on the tubes when I get the chance to (i.e. holidays, weekends).
The social life damage mentioned by Thexare isn't an issue for me since I virtually don't have a social life which could suffer from it in the first place. That isn't a result of my online time though, since I already had none before I started spending my days at the box on a regular basis.
On the other hand, I am always ready to leave the internet for the sake of something sufficiently interesting on this side of the screen. (Not like "sufficiently interesting" things happen too often over here...) So I guess the "too much" line is crossed at the point that is not the case anymore.

Dad used to be stupid about it. But mom doesn't care because she realizes it is a okay thing. And auntie uses it more than I do I just don't see why it matters to some parrents, it does not harm any body..and, especially, I do a lot of the work around the house so it isn't like I have no responsibility, any way.

Technically I'm on the Internet at my job even though we only use it for one or two things. XD

I can see why it's bad but if you need to pass the time... there's worse things to do.

My dad was constantly on my case about it too (before he moved, now he's off my back about it because he's 1000 miles away!). I don't know WHY he was though... I have a job, I get good grades, I hang out with friends, I participate in family events... it's not like I hermit myself in my room all day. I just prefer being on the comp if I have some free time, if I'm not working, doing homework, hanging out with friends, or sleeping. What's so bad about that?

Before I obtained two computers of my own and I had to share a living room PC, my parents would always tell me this. I was usually on for 5+ hours at a time, also. I'd say that's probably too long, but, eh, I wouldn't say I have any set limit on how I'd be on; limits should be set, as Kail has indicated, by what else there is to do. Like recently, college has completely owned my time. Therefore, I'm online a lot less than I used to be.

This also applies to me, except that I don't really get yelled at for spending too much time on the computer. I leave the room quite often, though. Really, the computer is the only form of leisure I have.

I have my good ol' computer, cell phone, and N64 to give me calm pleasure.

Mmm-hmm.

I spend the bulk of my free time on the internet, but it's not that I don't ever do anything else, it's just that I usually don't have anything else to do.

I'm sure a lot of people would think that I'm an "internet addict", but, if that were the case, there wouldn't be days where I just turn the computer off and go do something else.
*shrug* It's a tool, I take advantage of it as such.

Now that I have a job again, the complaints have ceased.

Which isn't a surprise.

What do I think is too long? If your social life suffers due to excessive internet time, there may be an issue. If it interferes with work and/or school, there's definitely one. I'll admit that I don't have much of a social life at all, but I can think of a number of things other than computers and video games that contribute to that (not the least of which being the fact that I'm just a very reserved, timid person), and I've never once been late to work or missed an assignment's due date because of being online too much.

Hell yeah. Especially with dialup. That sucks bigtime. According to mommy dearest, the internet costs too much to have and should not be used more than once per day.

Also, the computer must be TURNED OFF immediately after use.

I don't know what is too long; I stay on for hours and hours and hours with no real ill effect. Well, my hands do have some damage, but that's about it.

I think it depends; I don't do it to the exclusion of a social life and studying, so I don't believe it to matter how long otherwise I'm on.

My dad always raze's me about being online too much, I want to hear your take on this matter. Do you get "yelled" at for being online too much?
