Eh. Here's a simple update...
First off, new screens are coming SOON. I just finished Silver Pipeline 1, so... Yay. I got SO sidetracked with my other ideas, I not only forgot to work on this level some more, but I also decided to go ahead and place one of the worlds I was working on RIGHT AFTER SILVER PIPELINE!!! What is it? Peppermint Fields! ![]() ![]() Anyways, just so you know, yes, Dr. Wily WILL be in this hack... and he's the very first antagonist you find! ![]() ![]() Okay, so... Silver Pipeline won't go like you'd expect. Once you reach Silver Pipeline 3, you'll find that you need to activate the Green Switch in order to continue, so you take a different exit, which leads to *gasp!* the Green Switch. Duh. Well, activating that allows you to get to another secret... What it is, I cannot say... But know this: Once you beat Silver Pipeline 1, don't think you're done with it forever. For once you leave, you'll find that... YOU'LL BE RIGHT BACK. Now, a simple explanation of those "Peppermint Blocks". Well, they're just blue blocks with a red-and-white center (Peppermint- I'd say "Candy Cane", but when I think peppermint, I think red and white). Well, you only find them in Ice levels, so what do you think they are? ![]() ![]() World 1: Silver Pipeline World 2: Peppermint Fields World 3: ??? World 4: ??? World 5: ??? World 6: ??? World 7: ??? World 8: ??? World 9: Rainbow Road World S: ??? 10 Worlds so far, but wait! Aren't there only 7 Castles (not counting Bowser's Castle)? That's right, so what's at the end of World 8? Maybe a passage to Rainbow Road? Or a passage to the Special World? Or could it even be the final area? No, that can't be, because I previously stated that the final level might be in the Rainbow Road world... Hmmm.... (Think about it for a minute- You'll get it. ![]() Ugh... Screens soon. Especially of my very fun "Peppermint Secret". Heh heh heh... Edit: Okay, screens are ready. I have 4 Screenshots to show you tonight: ![]() Part 3 of Silver Pipeline 1. It's mainly you vs. Pipes and Piranha Plants. You must use these SMB3 Elevators to get across TWO large chasms and a Muncher pit. (Oh yeah, and I just found out that landing on one of those blocks causes all Message Blocks in the level to mysteriously VANISH. Oh well. I'll leave that block there anyways. I have nowhere else to put it because the main part of the level uses Venus Fire Traps, which use the Message Box GFX! ![]() ![]() ![]() OMG! Wily's left a message for Mario! Lesse... It says: "Muahahaha! You'll never get this key, Mario! Give up now! -Dr. Wily" Onoez... Now how will mario trigger the secret exit? Maybe he doesn't at all? ![]() "WHAT?! HOW DID MARIO BREAK INTO MY SECRET STORAGE FACILITY FOR THE KEY?! Grrr... Now he'll be able to reach me!!! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!" -Dr. Wily left that note for me... ![]() ![]() Ahhh... It's Peppermint Secret! No, I didn't waste my time there.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() GASP! It's Peppermint Castle!!! What level could it be hiding in??? Note ![]() ![]() pikaguy900 |
Posts: 574/748 Originally posted by quaker3332 Thanks! I thought of replacing the Castle with a Pipe, but I figured it wouldn't look right when the time came to destroy it. Then again, why would Mario destroy a castle after beating the boss inside? Maybe I WILL make it a pipe. Or, maybe I'll make it a normal level and you won't know when you've reached the Boss level until you do. ![]() I use ZSNES, and I only use Snes9x only when it's the only emulator I can play a hack on (Like Super Metroid: Redesign), so no thank you. Please, don't call that ship a Wily level- Call it a Cosmoship level (Get it? Cosmos= Space, so that word means Spaceship! XD) instead! ![]() quaker3332 |
Posts: 12/13 This is a hack I'm looking forward to.
| I like your overworld, but like SNN said, I'd change the Castle to something else. Maybe the pipe from the overworld in SMB3? It'd be fat enough that it might be able to work. Levels look fun, and I love the atmosphere on the Rainbow Road and Wily levels. Although I don't know how to make a GIF out of a program either, however, if you use SNES9X you could go to File -> Record AVI and make a really short AVI at low quality and upload it somewhere. I bet someone else has a better idea, but like I said, I don't know how to do the .GIF recording thing I see people doing around here occasionally. Looking good though, keep it up. pikaguy900 |
Posts: 563/748 Originally posted by ZTaimat What do you mean? Originally posted by HyperHacker Only if I knew how to do such a thing. Seriously, I have NO clue on how to animate a GIF. Edit: Onoez.... Now I'VE lost my mind! XD I've been playing Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 5 (Game Boy) since yesterday. Well, I'm a big Mega Man fan, so... Let me just say this real quick-like: I recently started a "Cosmoship" level (SPACESHIP?! XD), one that will be in my Rainbow Road world. I want it to be the very last level in my hack, but I may not do that. We'll see. Well, last night I came up with an idea. It just now spawned this: ![]() O_o Worse yet, for testing, I called the level "OMG WILY SHIP". XD I've REALLY gone overboard this time!! Wily's taken over the Mushroom Kingdom, not to mention MY MIND!!! ![]() ![]() Edit2: Well, I'm *finally* started on the slope tiles for my Rainbow Road GFX. Actually, I'm done with them (I'm only doing Normal Slope and Steep Slope, by the way). All I'm doing now is making those "connector tiles". I'm almost done making those, but... Man, it WILL be hard for me to release these if I choose to. I'm having to squeeze each 8x8 tile into unused spots because the tiles are so big! O_o Plus, in order to make each tile fit, I've had to move some of the tiles (including the tiles that take up the entirety of a single 8x8 tile, which in turn make up the 16x16 tile that you see between each "connector piece") to the location where the background is located!! ![]() ![]() ...Okay, NOW I'm done with the tiles. I'll insert them now, and actually BEGIN working on Rainbow Road 1. Wish me luck! ...Oh yeah, I'll show a few screens soon. ![]() HyperHacker |

Posts: 264/264 Originally posted by pikaguy900 Those Rainbow gfx look like the ones in the Mystic Realm (Srb2) ... oh well, Mystic isn't going to have much of a fit over here ![]() Thing you can make the rainbow look like it's 'curving'? spel werdz rite |
Posts: 1722/1796 Originally posted by Chaos Force< The hack looks quite nice. I'd play it. pikaguy900 |
Posts: 560/748 Originally posted by Sukasa Of course I'll add those cool things like stars and the like. Just one thing- What's a cornet? About the Castle... Well, I guess I can move the castle to the main overworld. THEN it'd look right. But I don't want to make the castle look like a pipe. Why would you do that? ![]() Thanks for the comments. You know, if you were to play that level, you'd notice that the colors look like they're moving from right to left. It's supposed to look like they're going from left to right. XD S.N.N. |
Posts: 1913/2028 I'd definitely use the first or second one also. #3 I just really don't like, and #4 .. well .. I guess it would be good if you were looking down on it from a top view or something | ![]() ![]() By the way, I am rather fond of your pipe overworld. Now THAT has never been done before! It looks pretty nice. My only complaint is the castle - it looks really out of place there, especially with the grass along the bottom. If you could get a different castle graphic or something, it may look better. Nice job overall though. Sukasa |
Posts: 1935/2068 Personally I think #3 would look good with the transitions... and for the cornets, ust use one diagonal transition and two larger-than-usual colours beside it.
| Also, you may want to add in clouds or 'neon' graphics in the background a la Mario Kart 64/Mario Kart: DD!! pikaguy900 |
Posts: 559/748 Originally posted by Joshua368 I already told you that no matter what choice you choose, they're ALL going to connect like the first two do. I only did that because it was easier for me to do it that way. So, I guess I'll stick with number 1 then... Now all I have to do is find a way to make turning corners... XD Joshua368 |
Posts: 64/89 Yep, you wanna use the first one. Maybe the second one. The solid edges of the bottom two don't look good. | FPI |
Posts: 146/197 I would say, use the first one. | pikaguy900 |
Posts: 556/748 I didn't get any inspiration from anyone for this. Plus, I'm doing something I have yet to see in a hack- A RAINBOW ROAD LEVEL. Yes, one of my worlds will be Rainbow Road! It'll have my own custom GFX, which I just started last night. I'll try darkening the color of the pipes, but I want them to look silver, not gray, which is what'll happen if I darken the colors too much.... Now, I won't mess with the colors of the BG for the outside areas, but for the inside, I agree, it DOES look too light.... XD THAT can be made darker, but I think that the colors for the outside of the pipes looks fine. Oh, if anyone can find me an ExGFX files containing YI Pipe Foreground tiles, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me use them. I've been looking for them for a long time, and I think they look great as a pipe interior than what I currently have... Meh. I have new plans for Part 3 of Silver Pipeline 1, but I won't reveal them yet... | ![]() Edit: As promised, here's the tiles all arranged in a certain way. Please note that each of the 4 rows is a different set of tiles. Alos note that all 8 colors I used (Yes, EIGHT) cycle. I love it. It's why I had to use EIGHT colors instead of 6 or 7. (Though now that I think about it, a rainbow actually has every single color imaginable in it... ![]() ![]() Do you like (these go in order from top to bottom): -The Long Ribbon setup? -The Blocky setup? -The "Pixelated" setup? -The "Bar" setup? Please note that no matter what choice you choose, they're ALL going to have those fun pieces that have 2 colors blend together! Those are seen between each color on the top strand of colors, and the second strand is only those pieces. So pick whichever one you like best. But know this- I HAVE NOT MADE ANY WALL PIECES OR SLOPE PIECES. I'll make those after you choose your selection. ![]() icegoom |
Posts: 169/190 Originally posted by pikaguy900 Not that I particularly mind Chucks with SMB3 graphics, but that was incredibly lazy of Nintendo to reuse the SMW Chuck sprites. Now you've got me pondering what an SMB3 styled Chuck would look like. They're probably the same species as Boom Boom, so he'd be a starting point, but he's just got a front view. None of the Koopa species wear boots or any kind of clothing before SMW, but he'd probably at least need the pads and helmet to register as a football player... Heh, I might give this a shot. (Or not. I sort of hate Chucks) As for your hack, it looks pretty standard thus far. Interesting choice giving the Piranha Plants SMB3 vines for stems. I'm not really a fan of Poison Mushrooms, so hooray for one being taken out of the game! I'd definitely like to see more pipes off in the distance of your backgrounds. Phazorite |
Posts: 15/33 Very cool idea there. I especially like all those custom blocks...not many hackers go for that much 1337n355. The only dings are the backgrounds...make them a little darker. Those pipes look a bit foregroundy.
| Are you using several different pipe backdrops in the first world? Silver pipes on a blue background will get old very fast. Screens 1 and 2: XD. Looks like you got some inspiration from Anikiti and Ghettoyouth with the pipes and poison shroom. Screen 3: Good, just "fade" the pipes a bit to make them look farther away. A lot of people have trouble with SMB3 waterfall ExGFX... those look good. Wooden blocks look a bit out of place though... Screen 4: Awesome-looking silver pipes! Very, very original. Keep up the good work, this hack could get repetitive so vary things a bit with each level. pikaguy900 |
Posts: 550/748 Originally posted by KPhoenix You'd better give me credit for it if I do that. Besides, can't you wait until after you're done with what you need to do to get the GFX? All you need to do is get to World 7-1 in SMAS-SMB3, enter the first door, and make a savestate. Open that in YY-CHR, press + 19 times, and scroll down until you find the GFX. Copy and paste it into a GFX file from your hack, and you're done. (Unless you're not using SMB3 palettes- Then you have to recolor.) EASY AS PIE. KPhoenix |
Posts: 78/112 You know that piece that consists of 4 tiles that holds a vertical pipe and a horizontal pipe together? I was wondering if you could pack it up in a bin file, because I need it for my hack. I don't have the time to rip and redraw my own to fit my palettes because of a speech and PowerPoint I have to do. I would really appreciate it if you did. | pikaguy900 |
Posts: 538/748 I already told you TWICE BEFORE, I'm not finalizing the idea that this hack is based around pipes, and even if I do base it around pipes, there's still going to be your average land levels and water levels (maybe some sky levels if I can get that GFX from SMB3). So NO COOKIES FOR YOU! The cookies are to those who can guess what Silver Pipeline 1 is based around (and you'd be surprised at what I'm going to use a lot in the level!). And by the way, I've never played Virtual Boy games. You're going to need to be a LOT more specific than that.
| Edit: MORE STUFF!!!! I'm using Custom Sprites now! Mostly the Poison 'Shroom, though. ![]() I'm also having a problem. Remember the screenshot that showed the SMB3 pipes? Well, the level number that's in is flashing for some reason or another... The very top of the screen keeps flashing black. I believe it's because of my custom blocks, but no matter how many I take out, it does nothing to fix it. ![]() NEW SCREENS!!!! ![]() Onoez, Mario! You released a Poison Shroom! What are you gonna do? Mario: "I'm-a gonna eat it!" ![]() Poor Mario... If only he knew... ![]() ![]() Here's where all the action is! I died up above (I have fish above there, and I touched one... Oops...), but I decided to go ahead and take this shot while Mario was there. XD Here, you have to swim against the currents and bounce on the Koopas without falling in the pit. I'd make it harder with some P-Switch Blocks, but I don't think that's very nice... ![]() And here's the World 1 Map! Welcome to Silver Pipeline! All the Silver Pipes you see are levels, while the Green Pipes warp you to another location IN THE SAME WORLD. I'll make a different color for Warp Pipes that send you elsewhere... ![]() ![]() Link2006 |
Posts: 145/161 This idea reminds of Mario Clash for the Virtual Boy. Where Mario threw shells at ememies. Maybe you can base your hack off that? The SMB 3 GFX always look great when used correctly. Since this hack is all about pipes *snaches cookies*, maybe you could use SMB 3 Pipes stages as references. Anyway, it sounds promising. Keep it up. | This is a long thread. Click here to view it. | |
