I never noticed that but that might be because I was always in good shape level-wise for each battle.
The airship bug seemed like Square Enix didn't know how to convert Mode 7 to the GBA at first. |

It was fixed in the EUR version, which is the ROM version anyone should get as opposed to the US version for these same reasons. |

I didn't find many things wrong with IV but I was lucky enough not to run into a lot of the bugs I guess.
As long as they didn't rush out VI, it should be fine. |

I did an obscenely high amount of leveling certain jobs (for me at least) and beat this game in a week. Mastered Thief, Monk, and Ninja on every character, Black Mage on Lenna, RM/BM on Faris, and Ranger on Butz (I prefer the other, yet badly thought up name) and Krile/Galuf. Also gave the two mages the usual array of magics, but only BM needs mastered. Dished out punishment on Neo-Exdeath, as I only got hit about once, with an Almagest. I don't know if it was just my levels or something else that made the final boss so much easier for me. Overall, the port was good; the character portraits were, as Kail said, a bit weird for those who have played the game before, as the characters don't really match them; but I liked most of the redone sound and the translation was great. Kudos to Square for this (FF IV Advance port set the bar pretty low here in the States). |

teach it Two-Handed and give it a Morningstar. That'd work better, since those work in the back row. If you're not far enough to have that, a Flail works.
Of course, giving it Black or Time Magic (Time when you have Comet) works better, but... |

I love teaching my White Mage barehanded. It makes it a little less useless than normal. ^^ |

If anyone wants to try it out, the Japanese version of VI Advance has been dumped.
I'm still plodding through V Advance but I have way too many things on my plate. |

Destroyed Neo Exdeath with minimal difficulty, never dropped below 1500 HP.
Level 45, all. Bartz had !Blue and !Blitzblade, Lenna was a Mime with White, Black, and Time. Krile had the typical cheap Freelancer w/ two swords (Chicken Knife and Man Eater), Spellblade, and Rapid Shot, and Faris had !Summon and !Combine. I used Carbuncle to reflect multi-target Firagas at Exdeath, and even Neo-Exdeath. Flare Sworded Rapid Shots were all Krile did, Bartz was the healer (after setting up Mighty Guard), and Faris used Bahamut unless the reflects fell, in which case she set them back up. And now certain characters keep dying in the bonus dungeon. I took a short time out to master Monk for Lenna, since she was having major HP issues (yay Movers! yay ABP Up!), but even then Gil Turtle (in the bonus dungeon) nearly wiped out my entire party with his end-battle Earthquake. Lenna was the only one left standing, and her HP was below 100... oof. |

Yay! I got Mighty Guard.
Oh, and I also got killed shortly after my previous post. I need to stop forgetting healing items. When I don't go into a battle already half-dead and out of MP on all chars, !Lance and White Wind from Bartz are surprisingly good at keeping people alive. Except when dealing with undead, because Lance is an absorbing attack... which is exactly where the problem came from last time. Edit: Just got the first three new jobs. If you're after max stats, you'll have to master Oracle (Magic) and Gladiator (Strength) now. Back to the game... |

I didn't have a problem with Shiva... I waited until near the end of the first world to grab her, but still. |

I'm up to the second two... uh... stone tablet things, whatever they were called.
Bartz, L35 Freelancer w/ !Lance, !Blue Enhancer/Aegis Shield/Gold Hairpin/Black Robe/Protect Ring Mastered Jobs: Samurai, Blue Mage Lenna, L34 Dancer w/ !Black L6 Chicken Knife/Ribbon/Rainbow Dress/Red Slippers Mastered Jobs: None (Level 6 White, Black, Time Mage) Galuf*, L35 Ranger w/ !Smoke (I hate those things in the trench.) Artemis Bow/Twist Headband/Black Garb/Kaiser Knuckles Mastered Jobs: Mystic Knight Faris, L35 Ninja w/ Light Step (I hate those lava floors in the trench.) Sasuke's Katana/Assassin's Dagger/Black Cowl/Black Garb/Protect Ring Mastered Jobs: Thief, Geomancer. Summoner level 5. I have Masamune, Sage's Staff, Magus Rod, and Yoichi's Bow, and Faris will probably get Masamune when she's done mastering a few more jobs (Ninja and Summoner). Artemis Bow is stronger, though, so I now have no use for that damned Yoichi's Bow. Lenna will probably be using the Magus Rod and Sage's Staff as a Mime once I get Ninja mastered for her. I killed a few bosses without getting much help from Magic Sword... Carbuncle + Multi-target Firaga + Fire Rod/Magus Rod = * Spoiler warning. Spoiler: Spoiler warning, see above. Ok, I know it's not really Galuf. But shhh, there might be one person somewhere out there that doesn't yet know that you lose him. |

No! You must not skip her! If you don't get her in time, that one thing happens to her, that one thing I can't specify because it's a spoiler! Do you want spoiler action to happen to Shiva!?
Also, I'm not sure if this is trun in the GBA version but steal from her men, they have nifty swords. |
Kailieann Posts: 610/808 |
Shiva is tough. I don't think I've ever beaten her without a bit of luck manipulation.
But only because I'm too lazy to powerlevel that early, and don't want to just move forward and then come back later. Although, it's not as if I ever cast Shiva, so I guess in theory I could just skip her entirely next time. |
asdf Posts: 3938/4077 |
Not really, Xeo - that part is quite tricky unless you've powerleveled. It's probably better that you do get Fire 2 before fighting her - makes life easier. |

Is it bad if I couldn't beat Shiva right away?
Once I buy Fire 2 and stuff, I plan to go back there and fight her ... |
Kailieann Posts: 606/808 |
If you didn't clear the tower, first, then asdf's theory of a glitched ROM is probably accurate. |

We had a key.
I don't know where we got it, but we had one. |
Thexare Posts: 987/1104 |
I was thinking maybe you ran into a bandersnatch on the overworld; if you're not careful, two of those can take out your whole party pretty easily right at the beginning.
But you couldn't have gotten to the canal that fast... you need a key. |
Kailieann Posts: 604/808 |
Yes, that would be the second boss. Which, see above, re: not getting to the first boss without a save point, and also re: the entire overworld being a save point.
