Look for "Sonic 3D Blast 5" (or 6), it's Somari with Sonic (and starting on later levels for some reason) It might be the same ones who did the Super Mario World NES pirate and a few others like Kart Fighter, "Donkey Kong Country 4" and Aladdin, they all use the same crappy sound ...
Sonic Genesis got nice reviews on GameFAQ's too, all rating it 2 or 3 Not to mention it still came out a few months late for the anniversary, rushed or not (does it even say anywhere in game that it's been 15 years? There's only "© Sega" on the title screen) ... they should have started it a year earlier or something so they could make a decent port in time |

Sonic Spinball was in Sega Smash Pack for the GBA. Pinball Party is totally different and was only released in Target stores. |

Heh, Sonic spinball was the first Sonic game I happened to emulate ironically. On the old DOS version of gens too. With the menus that made thoose "bump" sound when you bringed them up...
Sonic Spinball was unique that it was made by the American SEGA or something. Like with SMB2 in the Mario series. There seems to be a Sonic Spinball port for GBA according to google...but the lack of information and the fact that it seems to only be in a 3-1 cart it seems a bit suspcious. (and no, i'm not confusing it with Pinbally party) Sometimes I wonder if Somario was made by the same guy(s) who made that SMW port. Also the game feels like a pirate Sonic port with mario added later on, there's some animations from the sonic game in (such as the idle stance) but with (so)Mario. Funny seeing that they add such details. |

Wasn't Sonic Pinball Party totally different from Spinball? I thought it was more of a traditional pinball game. |

It seems more like they just had one or two guys work on it just so they can say here's something for the 15th anniversary. It's obviously not a real port, they ported Sonic Spinball to the GBA without these problems didn't they? I guess Sonic Team never really worked on GBA themselves, they seemed to always slap Dimps on it. |

Yes, it was the NES one. Not exactly a coding masterpiece but it was a unique pirate, which says a lot. |

Was SoMari the NES port/hack/etc. of Sonic using Mario in his place? Or was it the Speedy Gonzalez hack for SNES? Or am I confusing these two into one?
Fuck, I'm not even making sense anymore. |

This wouldn't even pass for a pirate game in this day and age, I fear.
At least Somari was neat to see when it came out. Not great, but interesting. |

You know, this port vaguely reminds me of Somari (alright, so it's better than that) Somari added the Spindash too, and at least they had the excuse that they were a bunch of cheap pirates hoping to make a fast buck and porting a game to a system worse than the Genesis... For a major company, it just makes it that much worse. |

Yeah, but it's not emulation because they added the spin dash and a few MINOR things...
They probably ported the code over and didn't bother to optimize it. Sloppy. |

Game Boy Advance wouldn't run a Sega Genesis emulator even as fast as this game goes... It's feasible on Nintendo DS, though. |

It would have been easier to just write a emulator for whatever platform this game is supposed to now be running on and just embed the original rom. It would have sucked far less. |

You know what I find interesting?
If the original genesis version was this bad, Sonic would not have the reputation he has today. He probably wouldn't have gotten past the first game if it was this bad. And we'd all have another Sega gaming icon, like Ristar. Or Ecco. Hm. |

I can see this game being used to torture prisoners at the CIA's secret prisons...
I played until GHZ act 3 and quit. It's that bad. |

Sega's having no luck... GameSpot just gave Sonic the Hedgehog (XB360) 4.4/10.
They really need something to give this series a good boot in the ass. |

I think this game gets a 2 from me. Slowdown, bugs, glitches, suck, suck, blah, oversights... The list goes on and on. This game should be called Sonic Genepiss > |

It's Nintendo Power though... I mean, they can't give a game a horrible rating. They might have wanted to give the game less than a 6 but couldn't, so... if I could read the review, I'd be able to see why they gave it the score they did.
If you took away the major slowdown, even with the game being somewhat buggy... a 6 might be reasonable. I'd go with a 5 in that case. |

60% might be understandable if they tried to pass it off as the best game evar!!!11 and taking the heavy bugs in account. |

I mean, seriously, you don't get a heal ability until after the second dungeon, I believe. I suppose if I took some time to get better I'd change my mind. But imo it's easily the most difficult Zelda game of all time - which isn't bad per se, but again I think the challenge goes up too fast and you aren't given enough tools to deal with it. The magic system is also irritating in that abilities only last one screen. |
