That... disturbed me, and raised my heartrate.

Indeed, a nerdy B-Movie. Attack Of The Spyware! Just when you thought it was safe to plug in your network cable...

That movie scares the hell out of me, it's like a PC horror film.

There's a guy in Banjo-Kazooie named Goggles. Anyway, back on topic...

Well, now I know to be extra careful while typing Google. I'd hate for all those viruses/spyware to get into my computer. I can't afford to lose my information.

The most I've seen on one computer was ~50 viruses/spyware, since he isn't the smartest person in the world (he thought the original Final Fantasy was for PlayStation and thinks Ocarina of Time was a bad game), has weird tastes, and most importantly, no anti-virus/spyware blocker.

It died.

How does it remind you of Banjo Kazooie?
...am I missing something here?

Ah, good ole Goggle.

I blocked it back a few years ago when I was working in a school, because students would often go there (accidentally or on purpose, I was never sure). Blocking that and a few ad sites stopped a lot of spyware and other nasties.

I tried it in VMWare too (SP1 just for fun) and it gave me some popups and gave a link to some survey. Strangely enough there's a timer that says a special offer is about to expire, but when it hits 0 the site just reloads. Cheap advertising tactic I guess...

Next I'm gonna see if archive.org has the old computer-killing version of the site...muahahaha.

Edit: Well, I tried it, and it still isn't much. Most of the time it would just link to SpyBouncer or some other bogus antispyware, or it would have an under construction page. It gave me a few more popups though, each time there would be this weird one with an IP address instead of a URL. Nothing particularly dangerous-looking, so they definitely over-exaggerated a little.

It wasn't exaggerated, as I've seen the same problem crop up (though not on that website)

I have the stereotypical idiot teenage sister who runs anything she downloads. It's not hard (fuck, there was a virus in C:\ last I checked)

Yeah. I remember when I was TEH N00B at the internet, I made that typo pretty often.

Probably nothing too interesting on it right now.

Shiryu: ANY virus that stealth-installs from a website is bad news unless it can't execute its payload for some strange reason.

I've heard the site was taken down and replaced with what is there now, so no more malware (at least, not as much). Pity, I was looking forward to watching Win98 explode .

Let's see, I'll try it again in VMWare but on my Windows 98 setup (with Internet Explorer 5) instead of XP ...

...

Nope, nothing, either it's only for XP or there's really nothing interesting there now, and it's not too likely that someone would run Internet Explorer 5 on Windows XP when version 6 is just as old

Becouse It won't happen if using IE6 or the last firefoxes. try it with IE <5 (with 4 it sure happens) and a crappy firewall, and say that again.

(But you still get some viruses, not too important ones... but whatever.)

I did get infected with that SpySheriff program and tons of other junk not too long ago (but not through Goggle). It also ruined my system restore points and I ended up reformatting my hard drive because it was running so slowly . Maybe I should get a Mac...

No, it used to do this. This was a real site, cause a friend tried to show me it awhile back and my virus protection went bananas. Also, a quick google search and you see that it did indeed happen to people. It has since been closed up though, but when it was around it supposedly hit alot of people...

Same here... apart from the fact that it redirected to a site (in a rather tame way) that told me that I'm a legible US resident. Like I wanted to go to hell.

Gotta love alternate browsers... I don't dare trying that with IE.
