Well on the movie The Sixth Day, they simply cloned fish. Can't see much reason that wouldn't work, except perhaps cost. |

Aww...
I love sea creatures. I don't like seafood, but I love sea creatures. Well, if it does happen (and hope it never does), at least there'll still be jellyfish... unless we start eating them. SAVE THE FISH |

This just tells me that I should invest my retirement savings in fish farms. |

What'll probably occur is that when there are basically no more fish left... fishermen will abandon fishing alltogether and the fish will be able to reproduce at a normal rate once more.. repopulating the seas and restoring the ecology of the oceans... and the fish utopia will exist once more.
Overfishing as well as pollution needs to be regulated though, before something like that happens. We really are having quite a dramatic effect on the earth... far greater an impact than most people realize. There are just so many people now, practices which used to work for us just aren't working anymore. For example... we used to fish and it worked out fine for us because there were less people to feed... but now there is such great demand for food we have outgrown the supplies. This goes for other things as well... things like logging and even the whole global warming oil crisis we have. We need to adapt to the population crisis before we damage the earth beyond repair. It's very FFVII if you think about it. |

Remember, that fish are basically an integral part of the rest of the foodchain.
I CHOOSE YOU BIOAMPLIFICATION AND BAD POLLUTION LAWS. |

Land covers 1/3 of the Earth's surface, and because we can't fly and land is a solid, we can only really use two dimensions of it (IE we can't go up or down very much). Water covers the other 2/3, and since it's a liquid and fish can swim and breathe in it, they can use all 3 dimensions. Somehow I find it a bit difficult to believe that we're really going to kill all the fish in the ocean any time soon. |

If we destroy all the fish, then we're likely to destroy ourselves eventually too. I believe it is idiocy to tolerate complete destruction of an ecosystem. |

I doubt this, there is so much we havent "explored" in the ocearn and it would just be uphauling if this actually happend. But I really dont think this is true or its nothing to worry about.
Really doesnt "bother" me since im alergic to seafood. :/ |

This speaks of far broader problems than just depleted fish stocks. If we can destroy one entire ecosystem, what's to say we won't destroy all the others? |

I sort of agree with that... Fish is more than just food.
For one, it's an important pillar in the economy of many small local communities around the world. If it weren't for fish, the region in Northern Norway that I come from, wouldn't be what it is today. (Though, we're hoping that the oil and the tourism will save us!!1) Not that it is a whole lot today, but you get the point.. And of course, there's the ecological side of it all. But yeah, some seafood is really good, and some seafood is total crap. |

The sheer level of apathy and short-sightedness in this thread so far is appalling, though I'm not the least bit surprised. |

article here!
So yea...do you really think that in 50 yrs, we'll be out of fish/seafood? Personally, I'm not really into seafood, save for a few things, like crab cakes. |
