I see, there's just one more question,
How do you insert the images? What I mean is when hacking a fresh rom, the pages on the 16 map BG are all a bunch of squares exept for Page 10... I need an alterating background for a couple levels, like Mirage Island. |

Yes, if the picture fits the game's/hardware's colour and size limitations. Don't use up all your Map16 space on pretty backgrounds though. |

Ooo, THANK YOU A BILLION.
Btw, isn't is possible to take any picture from anywhere and make them backgrounds for the hacked ROM? I think it does but I don't know how, anywase your graphic hacks are obviosly (sp) getting better. Hehe, i did ninja koopas with mine. |

To extract the graphics, click on the red mushroom in the tool bar. (The first one in the group of four mushrooms.)
Then, it's safe to save in the 8x8 editor. To import the graphics after saving them, click on the green mushroom. (The second one in the group of four mushrooms.) |

Darnit, I pressed F9 there and it asked me if I want to save the GFX level, though it asks/says something about extracting graphics to the or something like that, I don't understand this... it also says that the file cannot be openned and the graphic ext. thing again, what's with this extracting graphics thing?
Though in the question, it said exactly: Do you want to save the current level GFX to file, so it can be inserted to the Rom later? Don't do this if you haven't extacted the graphics yet! Which graphics and how do I extract them? |

Press F9 in the 8x8 editor window followed by importing the graphics to the ROM. |

I'm having trouble with that 8x8 Graphic editor (that is what your using to do these, right?) in LM, every time after editing sprites/objects and move up a level or play the game on Zsnes, the sprites return to their original appearance. I know I save the levels, too. So that can't be it... |

Big improvement on the Thwomps. Give the snails eyes on stalks, and draw a black outline around them to match everything else. |

Thwomps: Those look good. They do. The only think you need to do is lower the mouth on them.
Snail: Raise eyes. By the way, you have yourself a nice birthday. |

Ok... Thwomp #57542
btw, what do you think looks better? Snails with eyes on body or not? |
ibz10g Posts: 370/588 |
Sorry. I just think they need work. It needs depth. Sorry if I'm being kind of incoherent, but I think you could do better. I don't want to tell you they're perfect if they aren't.
But hey, you keep them how you want them. I know my sprites aren't perfect, but I love em' anyways. This has inspired me anyways. I'm going to start working a lot more on my hack. |

I'LL offer some advice. Those Thwomps are okay, but yes, they do need some work. They don't look like stones. The worst part of it all? That's about as good as I can do with the shading. O_o And out of all the parts of tile-making, I'm the worst at shading. Yes, they need to be shaded a little better (Don't put little "bloches" on them- Take the darkest colors and put them on the edges, then work your way in with the lighter colors. This gives tiles perspective and keeps them from looking flat and lifeless.). Plus, for its actual face, put some black where its eyes should be (make it look like it's just another part of a stone), make one of its eyes open up a little bit for when you get a little too close, and for when you're too close for it to tolerate, make it be REALLY angry. Or, for some insanity, make it stick its tongue out at you. And seriously, DON'T make Spinies into Goombas- People around here REALLY hate when people do that to Spinies. They're used to Goombas being Goombas. However, if you give them hats (and make the hat have a different color than the Goomba, so people know the difference between the two. The Spiky Goombas from the Paper Mario games had hats, not Spiked Heads.) with one spike (Not two, ONE SPIKE), it'll pass, because people will know that it can't be stomped on normally. Remember, people are going to look for SHADING. Oh yes, the Spiked Goombas were also the same color as normal Goombas. Don't make your new Spinies a different color/palette. |

Originally posted by ibz10g imo I should fix the eyes... they look quite strange... But I dunno how to fix it. Maybe making the eyes on the body instead of this "Eye strings"? Originally posted by ibz10g You're getting on my nerves. When you say "That's perfect! Don't edit it anymore" (Don't say anything, I already know the answer: "Never" ) But can you at least explain, what I should exactly fix? The boarder? The Face? Or what I should change, that you are happy? PS: Sorry for the worse English, the Online-dictionary is at the moment down and so I must translate some words with the very very very very very great google dictionary. |

Hah. Those beetles aren't bad. I like the idea.
The thwomps still could use some work. |

Maybe if you changed the black color the Goomba would look better. I like the Thwomp face idea, it's like a face just appears and then WHAM. |

Spiney: Stay away from the goombas. Just do it. (They look like little Aquabats)
Thwomp: I think the before-thwomps were better. They need depth. Thwimp: Not too bad. Just fix the eyes. |

Need some ideas?
My Thwomp is an updated version of the regular Thwomp. Icegoom's Thwomp has an entirely different unique style. Some advice is to try to stay away from any originals, yet keep it in the same category. |
