I'm worried the nutzoid hate-monger base is going to be turning out to vote against the fags because of that NJ Supreme Court ruling. The Republicans must be thanking god there's so much stupidity and hatred to be tapped. |

There's also governor races going on across the country. Here in Michigan it's between Republican Dick DeVos and incumbent Democrat Jennifer Granholm. The main issue has been the economy. Under Granholm the Michigan economy hasn't seen the same recovery as the rest of the country. However, it should be obvious to anyone who's lived in the area for awhile that the economic problems of Michigan have little to do with recession of the last few years.
GM and Ford are both in the red, and they simply can no longer support Michigan's massive manufacturing base. Especially when they can get the same cheap, low precision parts and components from China for a fraction of the cost. China's advantage is a large cheap work force, which is something Michigan will never be able to compete with. If we ever want to see a turn around in manufacturing, its going to take a huge investments in education, from current public schools, to the creation and funding of public trade and engineering schools. Basically, we need to move away from the old "bang out as many sprockets as possible" mentality to high end precision medical and industrial work. It will take considerable spending on the state governments part, spending I just don't believe a Republican controlled government is willing to support, especially when they can rely on quick first solutions like the recent repealing of the Single Business Tax, which with require huge cuts in social spending that still won't completely cover the loss of income, and will likely only make matters worse in the long run. This is why I won't vote for DeVos (or any Republican for that matter). That and he used to run Amway (so basically, he was a con-artist for a living), and he has excessively whiny campaign ads. |

I chose "Litte to no change" because although people have for years claimed to want things changed (all over the US, depending on who you listen to in the media), voters never change, the people who say they "care" rarely vote, and the people with money have a clear Republican affinity when they vote a majority of the time. Maybe if the Democratic party had a spine of some sort, they'd be more successful, but I really wouldn't bet on them doing much of anything this election. |

I really hope there is some change in the air, because I'm sick of being represented by a bunch of crooks and yes-men. I hold the current republican party responsible because they are the ones with all the power right now, there is no check on them. It's hilarious to me when things go wrong and the first response of this administration is to try to find some way to pin it on the democrats. But the problem with that is that the Democrats are not in power and have'nt been in a long long time. If at least one chamber of congress become Democratic I'll be happy that there will now be some kind of balance of power. Maybe that will cut down on the arrogance and the corruption, at least a little bit. |

I don't really care who wins what and who controls what.... in the end Bush is still going to be president for 2 more years.
Sure, this may "reign him in".... but is that really going to "fix" anything for the Bush-haters in the country? Not likely. Plus from what I've heard of campaigning (mostly from TV spots) is more of a "I'm not the old candidate.... I'm better than he is cause I won't make his same mistakes". Politics is just so silly now. I can't take it very seriously anymore. |

Maybe it's just me, but "they're all bastards" strikes me as a cop-out. I'm not sure aloofness and neutrality between the parties is actually morally defensible right now... it seems like it's just irresponsible.
I mean, in 2000 it was possible to claim of Bush and Gore that there was no difference between the two candidates. Is that really still possible? |

However, the "little to no change" thing is just my general opinion of "they're all bastards anyway", so that's a little irrelevant. As for the other part, I figure you pretty much nailed it. |

Well? I suspect there's a massive change in the air that will sweep any half-way competent liberal Democrat into the White House in 2008 (hopefully Obama or Gore!), I think it's really a Carter type moment of people wanting someone as different as possible to what they've had... but I don't think the Dems will be there just yet. I don't think they can swing both houses given the disgustingly high incumbency rate in the congressional system. Dems to pinch the House and gain ground, but not enough, in the Senate. Hopefully will result in a whole raft of committees and hearings into some of the insanity of the last 6 years and the reigning in of some of the excesses. |
