Made lots of progress and am now riding the rails!

Had to hack in some arca at one point because it was getting too tedious. Lower some of those prices, particularly the 500-arca inn.

In fact, I barely have enough PSI power to heal all my HP back now that my HP are over 400! Could you have the effects of Aura bumped a little as your levels rise? Getting 48 HP back is great when you only have 100; not so great when that's 10% of your HP and you can only use Aura nine times.

A minor graphic fix I'd like to see: when you exit the Divide (? where you need to break the seal and enter the snowy area), there's no visual evidence of an exit on the field. So when heading backwards, it's not clear where you should go. The other north-exiting caves have graphical evidence of the exits when you get out to the field, so this one should too.

Would also be nice to see the contents of a chest before deciding whether or not to drop something in order to get it. Not as much of a problem in the original FF where you have 16 slots for items; here, where you only have four, it's becoming a big hassle.

This game really is deep and involved. The best RPG hack I've ever played.



Edit: A bit stuck now -- the new areas I can reach are all filled with insanely powerful monsters. At one point I reached a dead end and fought a monster named Pyro (final boss?) who gave me a thorough whooping. Also found a red-interiored building where I couldn't do anything in the inner sanctum (lacking an item, I imagine). Have the EMP and two nice guns: the Vulcan (accurate) and the Rail (powerful but unreliable). Where am I "supposed" to go now?



Edit again -- I've finished the game! There was a certain switch I hadn't seen, which was the key to the next stage of the story. Finished the last battle -- and it wasn't obvious that this was the whole shebang, since I'd been demolished by Pyro earlier and I still don't know what's behind him, nor do I know what happens if you defeat the She-Bitch (somewhat redundant, that), and I couldn't even come close to defeating either of them.

I've got a great screen shot of the last moments of the last battle -- Sargon has 1 HP remaining! On a cartridge, I never would have gone for it on that last shot; I would have used an Auratap.

BTW, is there level 8 magic? I never found any and had been wondering if those robots in the catacombs might have it.

This is a fantastic game and was well worth my time. More commentary later!

If you change that branch to NOPs, both Sargon and your enemies get critical hits on every attack.

Hey Sliver, I finally finished your first hack (final boss: level 21 with 31 PSI points is impossible, but level 24 with 120 PSI points is a cakewalk), and am now having a go at your second offering. This is quite a game!

Actually I downloaded version 1.0 by mistake the first time. I have to admit, the plainer font used in that version is much more readable than in 1.2 -- the gray border color is just too light.

Those insane critical hits that Srothroc complained about have gotten me too on occasion. I'm using save states but I can see why someone playing on a cart would be enraged.

The black/white/shades-of-one-other-color pallettes are surprisingly pleasant to look at. I really like the textures you designed for walls and floors. Not so much of a fan of the world map colors and the green swamps, which to be honest could be a bit more distinct from the grass.

Had an insane time fighting Sia but eight pills and some critical hits did the trick. Now I'm getting hammered by Bandits and the like in the snowfields. Had to run away and use savestates quite a few times to get through this -- perhaps a clinic in that rail-car building might be a good idea?

I agree about balancing the Arca a bit better. Lower the prices of some of that stuff so that we don't have to spend so much time piling up money. I'm not using any genuine cheats, but I have to admit that I've found myself resorting to speeding up the emulator and holding down the A button in order to get enough Arca.

Any reason Arca are indicated with a dollar sign and not some variation of the letter A? You've got your own currency, measuring system (kahns); why not your own currency symbol?

Ready for more battles in the snow now; this game is holding up well!

I'm level 11. I killed the Varion by using bolt and generot, then attacking it endlessly while I took Pills. It took me about 25-30 Pills and a lot of patience, if that's any idication of how hard it was....


I've been using PSI a lot; it's just that I'll go out, bolt two Blasts, chug pills, Bolt whatever else, generot, be out of PSI, and have to go back to the clinic after having gained... 200-300 arca. It's a little disappointing that the arca didn't keep up with the experience. I've got the flak gun now, and I'm level 11.

I killed Sia a lot more easily than I killed the Varion. Took out his minions in one fell swoop, went back to heal and get Pills, then returned to assault Sia with Bolt and Generot. It took me about 10 Pills to kill him, though I got lucky and did a crit.
The first two times I tried him, though, he crushed me... the first one because my Bolts all sucked, the second because he did something like 140 damage in one hit.

Did you mean for the order of the minions to be Hexa (6), Deca (10), and Octa (8) (6-10-8) for any particular reason? They seemed like pretty random numbers, and weren't in ascending order... the best I could think of was a YY-MM-DD format for October 8, 2006.

Edit for addition: Sia was a lot easier than the Varion, I think, because he spent a lot more time sitting around casting spells than he did actually attacking. Though the Varion did Venom a lot, which was kind of useless, it seemed to attack more often... or perhaps it was just me fighting perpetually poisoned that made the damage add up.

The flak gun doesn't seem to be that great compared to the shot gun, for all that it's over three times more expensive. I'm only averaging 2-4 points of damage more, I think.

Also, I've not had any chance to upgrade my PSI since I'm blowing all my money on Pills. It's actually more profitable to sit around in the Varion's hideout and fight for money than it is to go anywhere else, considering you only get 10 arca less on average, if that, and you do far more damage and take far less damage.

I've got Aura, Bolt, Stare, and Generot, at this point. Only 1700 arca, after defeating Sia and fighting my way back to Pergador.

What's up with the graveyard in Endengard with a person in it? There's a path, and a door covering the path, but the door doesn't give a 'locked' message like the other two I've found.

I only really have one suggestion... it'd be nice to have a NPC in Pergador mention the swampy area around the Marsh Temple, since I'd completely dismissed it a long time ago since it was so far away. By the time I got the bike, I didn't even remember ever seeing a swamp before.

Anyway, to sum up... the majority of my money is going into Pills, so I can forego Aura and survive the longer treks from town to town. That's really what's holding me back from being able to buy the higher-priced PSI. It's too slow grinding around Pergador to be profitable, especially with a clinic that's 100 arca. :-/

Honestly, though, I'm still enjoying myself.

Edit: I've crossed the Great Divide, gone through the Rail place with robots, and found the town in the desert... that was a long, long, long trek that I wasn't expecting. Fortunately, I was lucky.

I just wanted to say that, as far as I know, a fission reactor would just be a normal nuclear reactor. Nuclear reactors work by nuclear fission, splitting atoms.

Edit again: I'm at Sansia, the PSI cost 20k arca apiece... and the monsters still seem to average 40 arca apiece. Am I just missing something here? Personally, I'd really recommend that you'd up the arca on later monsters. It's particularly UNrewarding to travel a long way and find that you're making slightly more than if you had just stayed home... especially when a stay at the inn is 500 Arca in and of itself.

And a bit later, I'm seeing that some monsters actually award you with a fair amount of Arca, like the Feros. The problem just seems to be running into them often enough.

Speaking of the Feros, it seems particularly prone to damage range problems I've seen on a couple of other monsters (Mound and Vorzok, for example). They consistently peg different values over a huge range when it comes to damage. My first few fights against Mounds and Vorzoks, they would do 2-5 damage, then all of a sudden, they started hitting the 15-20 range consistently, with no change in my equipment. The Feros seems prone to this in a single battle, hitting anywhere from 2 to 48, with no consistency around any one value. It's almost like its damage is calculated from a 1d50 instead of 5d10 or something. It's really all over the place sometimes, and I'm not sure if that's what you want.

Edit yet again: Sorry about all the edits, but I haven't yet gotten approval, so I can't actually make more posts for you.

Having tried Schism a number of times (18, actually) on groups of monsters, I can say that it seems more like a... hit-or-miss group Stare than the traditional Confusion effect. While monsters do seem to attack each other (or perhaps themselves?), no damage is dealt -- instead, it always says "No Effect". Is this intentional?

Edit: Found a typo in the instruction booklet under Statistics. Defense should "absorb" attack damage, not "absord" it. It might be nice to include a notation near Pills and SRAM that goes along the lines of "A less common item, Beta, is said to exist outside of Hylis. The rumors say that it can restore the abilities of a PSI-using warrior to full power almost instantaneously." It's a lot to ask of a player to pay 10000 arca for a nondescript item that may or may not be good...

I'll lower either her HP or DEF values, then (Only bosses have DEF values in the game).

The 140DMG hit was due to the god damn critical routine I'm having great difficulty tracking down. v1.3 will *not* be released until I can fix that, as later in the game they hit so hard that it's ridiculous.

Hexa is a reference to Hexadecimal... It's just simply a descending base system reference (16, 10, 8, 2).

The Lamina Implant, when used in battle, cures poisoning.

The base damage of the Shot Rifle (Meaning not including Sargon's STR bonus) is 8 - 16 HP, while the Flak Rifle is 12-24.

That is the SheBitch, one of the two hidden bosses of the game. She is basically a litmus test; if you can't kill her, you have no chance of slaying Pyro, the most difficult enemy in the game. I'll give you a hint; it's virtually impossible unless you search the skeleton in the graveyard. Also, you won't even be able to get to her, or Pyro, unless you solve the rather lenghty subquest that runs parallel to the standard game. You have to find an item very well hidden in the Marsh Temple (Where you fought Tyris the first time) to begin it... Then go to Pergador. That's all I'll say. :p

Not really; I cloned all the effects from CONF, but enemies don't actually hurt each other. I can't remember if FF was like this as well. It's very likely that all the code butchery myself and others did has caused this, but I think it work's OK as is.

Thanks for pointing that out, and I'll mention something about the Beta. Which reminds me... I was bored out of my mind last night while trying to track down the critical routine, and made a new healing item, the Tau. It costs 200 Arca, and replenishes 200HP (Out of battle; can't be used in it. I hacked the Cabin by removing its save routine and check for OW only usage). I'm also seriously considering utilizing the class change effect in the game as well. If you gain it, you'll level up much more powerfully and faster, and I'm thinking of limiting the max PSI charges of Sargon without it to maybe 4 or 6 up to Lvl 6; to get 8 charges for all levels and to use the Lvl 7 and 8 (Hidden) PSIs would require it.

I'm in Pergador, level 9, Alloy Armor and Helm, as well as the Lamina... and I'm completely getting my butt kicked. Not only that, but it seems like there isn't much money to be had in this area. I mean, the next weapon upgrade is 3000 arca, but I'm not getting very much from fights; especially when you factor in the cost of an inn every three fights or so.

If you toss in the fact that the PSI upgrades are there to be had as well, that's quite a bit of money... am I doing something wrong, are these balance issues, or is there a lot of grinding built into the game?

No, the music sounds fine in fceuxd. However...going from the upbeat battle music to the dark and quiet victory theme is kinda strange at first...but sounds awesome after a few seconds of getting used to it. Awesome job, Sliver-X!

It looks completely fantastic! I'm flabbergasted, honestly... playing it through now.

I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to sound, but using Nestopia, the victory music sounds like a stuttering...

Ah, I had this in my backpack without noticing!

Found the spot where you use it and am in the final dungeon. Somehow I made it to the final floor so I'm going to see if I can beat the final boss without returning. Level 21 (and very few PSI points), but we'll see what happens!

Despite being activated, the droid doesn't do anything except say hello, and the other droid in Usand doesn't say anything different now that his companion is alive.


You need two more components of the Nuclear Bomb: The Titanium Cylinder and the Uranium Core. The Cylinder is located in the prison of Amnethen Keep, down a stairway. The Uranium Core is in possession of a droid northwest of Phuun. You have to find the Musty Bone in the tomb beneath the Zeite Mine in Tors and give it to him, granting access to it.

Once you have these, the NukTek droid will assemble the Nuke for you. Probably one of the most obtuse parts of the game is just *where* to use it... There's one, and *only* one section of mountain on the entire island of Amnethen that's one tile thick. Use the Nuke in front of this mountain to blast it out of the way, granting access to the Valley of Tia Naar, where the Temple of Viesti is located (The final dungeon).

Are those seemingly-inaccessible buildings (whose insides can be seen if you enter neighboring shops) just red herrings, or are there ways in there?

Yes, I purposely made them to fuck with people. :p

However, the dead towns are a ruse; there is one dungeon located within one of them.

You need the Locator Cube, which you get when you save Duke Argus. He's in the clinic in the town of Phuun; take him back to Amnethen Keep and he'll give it to you.

Also, how do you use items? I've got this Sapphire Ring which says something about 'the fake man in Usand'; how would I use this rign once I've found this man?

The Sapphire Ring is the useless Fighter's Ring from DW; I made it give you a hint to the droid in Usand that tells the location of the NukTek ID; you've already found him.

Hey Sliver, this new game of yours made me want to go out and get the original, so I downloaded it. Quite fun as long as you're using an emulator with a fast-forward button! (I'd forgotten just how tedious Dragon Warrior battles are.)

Am now a big hung up as a man in the southernmost town has told me that his ID card is 40 steps east and 70 steps south of the castle, but I don't hae a device to tell me where I am, like that ting the princess game you in the original. There's no other obvious reachable place, though this new Gamma Armor I've grabbed sure makes walking around easy. (Hits restored with each step! Erdrick's Armor?)

Also, how do you use items? I've got this Sapphire Ring which says something about 'the fake man in Usand'; how would I use this rign once I've found this man?

This is a great game to test, guys, Wether you liked final fantasy or not, I believe this patches every known flaw the original game had, and this update is adding more polish and easier gameplay. Sliver and his gang worked hard on this.

I would like to test is. Is there anything that needs to be done specifically, or is it just generally playing through to make sure nothing goes GURK...?
