I had a similar dream as Tarale did before. All it was was the "off the air" screen on most stations in North America, it even had the noise and everything. I wasn't afraid of it, however, just mostly confused. I believe it was after one of my first times seeing that screen, too.

I believe the reason why the blue screen of death can be so scary is the suddeness of them and the sometimes intimidating warnings it shows. Indeed, white text on blue is beaten out only by red text on black (or vice versa) in terms of scariness.

I've had dreams within dreams like that before, but it's rare. The only one I remember is having an odd dream, waking up, and telling my mom about it (all very realistic except for the third-person view), only to wake up again, for real this time.

I felt trapped and paniced and was stuck like that for quite awhile which was probably the worst part. That I didn't wake up right away.

Sounds like sleep paralasys - your brain wakes up but your body doesn't. It can be pretty freaky. Don't think I've had it though.

Tarale, I agree, that test screen is creepy. Also, sounds like you're stressed about getting to work on time. Maybe you should be getting up earlier.

Also, last night for what I belive is the first time, I had a dream where I was someone else entirely. Imagine playing a video game and suddenly when you start the game the main character is replaced by someone completely different that you've never seen before; that's about what it was like. I was a Mexican man with a baby and needed to smuggle myself and the baby out of the country with the help of a girl (who I also don't recognize but I think may have been one of the girls on my desktop background). Apparently the border was just a few blocks down the road when in reality it's a few hundred kilometers (same direction though AFAIK). I put the baby in the trunk and was going to climb in too, when she pointed out there was room for me in the front seat. Suddenly my plan changed from "get me and the baby across the border secretly" to just "get the baby across the border secretly", as if it wouldn't matter if they saw me. So I left the baby in the trunk. It was well protected, but that still seems like an odd thing to do.
We did get across the border and stopped at some weird combination bath house/restaurant/dance theater. We went in to eat (both of our appearances drastically changed at this point), forgetting about the baby entirely, and that's about it.

Makes me wonder if I'd be a good father.

Just this morning I had a dream. In the dream I was at work. I work at McDonalds, which in itself is a nightmare. And all of a sudden there were 5 charter buses and all of my co-workers and managers vanished. I was left alone to make every one of their godforsaken orders! Then I woke up, or at least I thought I had, and my mother was telling me that one of my managers had called and I was late for work. I immediately jumped out of bed and got ready for work. Once at work the 5 charter buses showed up again and all of the crew, besides myself, vanished. This entire process went throught about 4 times until I actually woke up for school...

Thoose are quite common to see on SVT here. You need to change to a random crap channal if you don't want to see them at all. xD But it's getting more and more rare with seeing test cards on TV nowdays. :/ Intresting that test card is common in PAL countries, but not in US... which might explain why it looks so diffrent on american movies. xD

I had strange dreams myself. One were involving wierd cats from another world or something standing on two legs and people had to protect themself in their homes or something. I was going to call in the dogs, but then a cow tried to enter the house for some reason as I tried to close the door after both of the dogs went in.

And then I woke up. :/

...sometimes I actually wonder if I did scream out loud that morning. I probably would have known... if I weren't alone in my apartment. :/ I susect I did, becuse I never felt so life-threatened before in my life.

Arwon -- I'm scared of quite weird stuff too cause of a dream (at least, I think this was a dream) I had when I was little. All I remember is being all alone, directly in front of the TV in my darkened lounge room with nothing but a blue screen and illegible..something... on it. And the feeling that I wasn't supposed to be there and the tv knew it. I think it was a dream just because it still feels surreal. Creeped me out.

Pretty sure that's why TV Test Patterns and the Blue Screen of Death can often get me to involuntarily shudder and feel creeped out for no logical reason whatsoever. Besides, the Test Pattern used in Australia a lot is fucking weird, man...

That irks me even in a fully lit room. Yet I cannot help but stare at it (and twitch). Die, Phillips PM5544! Thank god for the almost... soothing.. 24 hour crap on TV nowadays. No more test cards, just sweet, sweet crappy Infomercials.

Note: Indian Head test card doesn't worry me at all, but almost all electronically generated ones do, and some older ones kinda irk me as well.

I find my own nightmares are pretty abstract and the main thing I'm left with is a feeling of pure abject terror that has little relationship with the actual events. The scariest dreams I ever had were a period of two weeks when I was about 11, wherein I had a recurring nightmare of this pure abstract terror sort that involved very little besides a jeep or 4-wheel-drive, random numbers, a scruby desert, and the feeling of flying uncontrollably.

There's no logical explaination for why these terrified me so utterly and why the thought of them still chills me.

On the other hand, the actual scary dreams about murders and monsters and stuff that I've had since then don't bother me, because they pale in comparison to these past dreams of pure, distilled, paralysing, fear.

See, my "scary" dreams don't so much scare me as much as they make me somewhat... uncomfortable. I'm not afraid, I'm a little bit weirded out by the snippets of gore and crazy my subconscious presents me with.

I am more disturbed by those dreams I have when I'm snoozing prior to getting up in the morning, in which I do things like miss the train to work, or dream that I've overslept. These dreams result in me suddenly just waking, sitting bolt upright in bed and going "OH SHIT" with my heart pounding. Then I usually realise I have not overslept and just wind up plain annoyed at the trick my brain played on me.

Eh. I don't have nightmares that scare the shit out of me, simple dreams that might disturb me occupy my mind the most.

Like last night. Had a dream where my Economics Professor told me I failed my exam.

Yeah, and I believed him when I woke up because at that moment my exam was not even 2% done. (take home exam)

My dreams rarely make any sense at all. They're getting less random though. They're now more like a game with a very broken script engine (things happen randomly, doors don't lead where they should, etc) than a game with a very broken 3D engine (just a lot of colourful crap filling my field of view) like they used to be.

I had this dream where everyone kept dying. I also have dreams of me flying in my parking lot, and this one where this sword fish thing was stabbing me in the chest pinning me down. I rarely die in my dreams

And here I thought I was the only one who knew when they were dreaming. I guess all of us evil [censored] know when we're asleep.

I haven't had a real nightmare in a long, long time. If something really bizarre or nightmare happens, my first response in dreams is to think "Oh, this is clearly a dream." And then I am god.

Nightmares? I don't get them. Usually in my dreams I am the evil creature killing everyone else off.

I usually dream about getting laid

I can't even remember the last nightmare I had. Definitely several years ago.

I remember I got my head cut off once. I woke up as the knife went through my neck.

I don't have nightmares much, I just have kinda freaky dreams. It's been a very long time since I've woken up all frightened because of one.

My "freaky dreams" tend to involve me dying a lot, generally in nasty ways (being slowly eaten alive or torn to shreds, etc). I can't remember a whole lot about the last one, except that I was fleeing what I think was multiple copies of myself... down a set of neverending stairs that as I went further down, became more heavily coated in blood spatter and unrecognisable shreds of human remains.

Not sure what the deal is with that.
