It's required to disassemble the game in order to understand what are you doing, or even a small part of it. You overwrote an assembly opcode.

You probably entered a value that is not possible for the game to interpret (ex. stats max out at 99 and you type FF for the value), or something of that nature. Perhaps your location of the hex values is incorrect, it is easy to be off by just a little and then screw it up that way. Another possibility is that your location is correct and that the stats are in that area, but that there are other, completely different values mixed in that you are editing unknowingly. Really, trial and error is your best bet to figure out what's wrong.

Ok, so I gave up trying to hack DOE2 and started to try and hack the character stats in Romance of The 3 Kingdoms 2 on the NES. I found the stats, hacked it, started the game, and once I picked the lord to use, the game crashed.

I don't get it, why would it crash like that? I KNOW I didn't hack the wrong numbers since I double checked everything. Also, it's not just one character, I try hacking other people and the samething happens. It even caused Japanese text to appear. I'm guessing that's dummied info, it cool but totally useless. Is there a way to fix the problem? Has anyone ever tried hacking something really simple only to see it crash?
