Yeah, no one ever really cares about the up key anyways.

But anyways, I'm about halfway finished, I'm just "upgrading" some gfx...

And its suppose to be a boulder, but I'll fix that later.

How did you get Mario to taunt like that? Did you change Mario's "looking up" sprite like I did?

The title screen is alot better.

Also, I have to say, that one pic looks like mario is running from a moon... (although that would be a nice addition if the hack were YI based!)

Woohoo, I was afraid this project had gone stale. It's nice to see some progress. As far as some of the pics...*starts humming the Indiana Jones theme*

I had almost forgotten I actually made a thread here. Time for a refreshing update!

New Title screen. Should be final unless I say otherwise.

Updated the colors a bit and Mario...Also, the final version of the status bar, finally fixed the damn thing..

New updated castle gfx. Also showing small Mario's "taunt".

Part of the Lava Sector in 2 player mode.

[Outdated gfx] Here just to show Yoshi plays an important part in this game.

[Outdated gfx]Oooo....shiny Mushroom.....

Those columns look like they're in the foreground... I'm assuming they're not.

Oh, and that background on screenshot #1 is really cool!

If you play with only controller #1 connected, it's used for both players.

The new castle background looks better indeed... Better use of colors.
It could still be better though, making it less linear, adding new elements and more colors... All greyish is a bit boring.

Actually I prefer your graphics to the ones in the previous screenshots, a much greater improvement imo.

1. All right, I suppose. You should fix that weirdness with the lower platform though - that black line looks odd.
2. Somewhat bland, but it's good otherwise.
3. The brown pillars look strange. The background clashes with the foreground (it looks like it is part of the foreground).
4 and 5. Not exactly the best choice in graphics for the block, but...
6. Excellent. The yellow bricks stick out in a bad way, however. And the bottom left corner of the pillars' being white is strange-looking.

This hack is looking nice so far. I enjoyed the first The Castle, and will probably enjoy this one too.

The only real reason why I played 2-Player in the other game was because it was basically an alternate path, giving the hack a bit of replay value to it. I don't think anyone used or would ever use it for what you intended it to be used as.

Well, if you fix it yourself, would you mind letting me use it? I need the Mario and Luigi Blocks in a hack, but... When the Mario-only and Luigi-Only Blocks don't work... the hack is virtually RUINED.

Anyways...

bothwingsbroken: Keys will be taking place of the Yoshi coins. You will need to collect 4 key in order to access the last part of the game. Now if anyone remembers the first game, it was only 1 level long. The same will be done for this.

Its is truly a 2 player block. It is only solid if you select 2 players at the title screen. As in my first game, 1-players games and co-op games will have different paths, but both will somewhat intersect with each other too.

As for the bg, its exactly what I did.

And the scoring system is a bit different. Instead of going up by 10's in the orginal SMW, it goes up by 1's. Just a simple trick involving gfx. I did it in the first one too. So the "Score" counter is actually in the right place; right in the middle of it. And I would put 0's as a fill in as you suggested, but the score counter really doesn't let you, it just shows up as a blank anyways.

rubixcuber : Done, as you can tell in the new pic. As for the "N", I apprently did something wrong with the ASM code I put it, I just don't know what yet......

Stifu: Alot of people actually played the 2 player mode in the first game. It kinda surprised me people played it.

pikaguy: Yes, I am using the M/L blocks again. and I did use the new patch an got the same problem. I'll try contacting the author, otherwise I guess I have to fix it myself....

A few comments:
What are the keys on the status bar? Are you wanting like 3 or 4 keys to be collectable, and show up on the status bar? If so are they going to be permanent or level-specific? I can help with coding items and displaying them on the screen if you need a hand.
Oh and about your two-player block... Is that a mario/luigi block or is that truly a single player/two player block? M/L is a bit overused, if thats truly a two-player mode block taht even mario could walk on as long as two players is set, you should make it lead to alternate paths that require two players to co-op to complete. Just a thought, would add a certain 2 player challenge seperate from the one-player game (as I personally dislike hacks that make me pick up controller 2 when I'm playing solo, seeing I play mine on an actual SNES.)

I do like the first two screens. Do you have horizontal and vertical on variable for the background mode? would add a certain depth for that castle background (ss.2); find out where the wall and the base ground align, then from there down make the background green, so when you jump up on something it looks psuedo-3d. Just a suggestion, is all.
About the score, I would either move it over to align the RIGHT side, or if you want it on the left use Status Bar Editor to place 0s until the higher byte values are set. Otherwise low scores don't look good.

Just a few thoughts.

Looks alright. Change the graphics for the bricks, redo the castle background... And you mentioned the colors, but what about the disappearing N in COINS at the top? I think you should move SCORE a tile to the right so it lines up with the number. Like the concept though, keep at it.

Also, I'd use brighter bricks for the ground and darker bricks for the background, not the other way around...

I like what you're showing so far. I would add that I agree with Stifu about the plain black background in those castles; you should put some graphic there, a fire burning in the distant background or something of that nature depending on what style you're looking for. It's not that the black is bad, it just has potential to look a lot better if you put something there.

If you look closely, you can see that there's more to the BG than just black

I know, and that doesn't even require you to look closely... but that's like one (virtual) plane in front of the farthest background, if you know what I mean, even though it's probably all on the same layer.

Only the first screen looks any good to me (not a fan of the ground though)... All the new graphics are rips, I assume...
Castle stages obviously need some major color changes, and an actual background rather than plain black...

The 2P blocks are interesting and have potential, however I don't expect many people to play the game in 2P mode... I guess people will start 2P games even if they're playing alone...

A few questions:
1: Are you using the Mario and Luigi Blocks? If so, are you using the fixed ones that change Luigi's name back to Mario? If so, how do you get the Luigi-Only and Mario-only blocks to work? They won't work anymore for me, for some reason.
2: What's the "Keys" thing in the status bar for?
