I work with the HM music editor a lot.

Basically, if I want to write music for it (or import music from another game using the notes from an MIDI file), I just open up FL Studio and write down all the seperate note lengths (and what notes and octave they are) for each line of notes. For example;

Note length: 0A
Note: F4

Note length: 20
Note: B3

And so on. I then simply enter in all the information into the HM music editor, and then mess around with the tempo/instruments used etc. It's incredibly simple, really. Just takes a bit of time.

The Wave editor in HM allows you to change the instrument samples.

To do this, open up a sound sample (it must be in the correct format) using, for example Microsoft Wave Editor, and then press copy and then paste it into the HM editor.

There is a restriction to how much room is taken up by samples, however (make sure it's under a second long, 0.70 is what I stick to) and you have to set loop points at EXACT places. Each sample also has to be of equal pitch (for example, each sample tuned to the root of C), otherwise the music will end up sounding disjointed and out of tune.

So I wouldnt really mess with the sample editor unless you know exactly what you are doing. Just stick to the music editor.

Ah-hah-hah, I thought you meant writing as "programing" or something... No, I understand notes pretty well. But there is still something that is bugging me: I'm experienced in the map editor (well, as much so as I can be without the use of hex...) and the text editor, but I don't know the first thing about the music editor. Perhaps there is some editor program other than Hyrule Magic out there that can make dealing with music easier? I looked all over google, but just maybe...

If not though, then it just brings me back to my last problem: I don't have a clue as to how I would use my knowledge of notes in HM. I found a WAV editor in HM, but I don't get how to activate it.

Well, you don't edit it in Hex. You edit the music in HM. Honestly, writing the music in is difficult if you don't at least have a basic understanding of notes and keys. Just play around with it and hope for the best. There really can't be a guide for writing music in HM. The process would be completely different for whatever song you want to write in.

Write it out? Sorry, I'm a n00b at this kind of thing, but I don't get how to write stuff. Heh-heh, the only reason I'm using Hyrule Magic instead a hex editor is because I don't get the concept behind addresses and whatnot. I get hex at a mediocre level, but not at all the addresses.

If somebody could tell me how to re/write a song into the game, I'd be able to finish my project and would be sooo grateful!

Well, as far as I know, you can't just put whatever music you want in there. You have to rewrite the songs that are already there. You can't just import MP3s or Midi files or anything of that sort, you have to write it out.

The thread title says it all: I don't have any idea on how to put in music that doesn't already exist in the ROM itself. I heard from many sites that you can put whatever music you like into LttP with HM, but I haven't found a faq for it anywhere on google or datacrystal.org, and I really want to put different music in. It's very important to a project I'm working on!
