Look we don't want the "war" to keep going on, so if you will shut down the "war", we (atleast I) will stop reregistering, and flaming, and flooding.

HUGE, HUGE difference between speaking honestly and flaming though.

You can speak your mind without flaming

I think honesty -- even sometimes if it's not flattering or positive -- is important. And ultimately it helps people out too.

The problem with a flame though is that even if there was good intent on the flamer's part to help someone with it, the thing is, the other person won't get the true intent -- they'll get defensive, and they'll flame back. And then it gets pretty darn pointless.

Yeah, I suppose that would be a good way to go.

I myself prefer just to say whatever it is I'm thinking at the time. It might not be as convincing as a carefully worded piece of advice, but it's quicker and a bit more truthful because I'm not padding out what I really want to say.

Yeah, but that doesn't necessarily have to be flaming. If someone were to say, "Sorry, but this part of the project needs to be scratched. I don't see how this can be positive within any boundaries of improvement, and is best off left out of the whole thing in general," in a somewhat polite matter, I'm sure we could all agree on the subject and get on with our lives peacefully (assuming the person starting the project isn't deluted or stupid and thinks the person who said that is trying to insult him). I suppose you could call that... "destructive" criticism, but without the intent to offend.

I hate whatever is outside the board. I've been to several newb forums before and large forums are worse. Take for instance, this time I posted on the DeviantArt forums, I'll tell them a thread is pointless, then some emo myspace kid will say, "Ya, go ahed n insult me, ur infintil come ntisnt welcum hear!1" and I'll respond with, "What the hell are you talking about!? I didn't say anything about you!" and they'll give me a, "stp flaming me or i'll tell admin to ban u!!!" and some stupidass 30-year old has the nerve to pm me defending this emo saying, "Quit flaming you asshole!". There are so many retards who shouldn't even run an online community due to their lack of common sense, short attention spans and horrible grammar. I hate most of the internet today. I need to learn how to screw up sites like Xk does.

What about the people who are just as bastardly on the net as they are in real life? We're awesome.

And unless somebody makes it very clear that said part of the project is really, really bad and no amount of tweaking will completely alleviate its nastiness, the problem never gets solved.

Plus, I subscribe to the theory that there are some people who are hopeless and should be simply driven from the community as quickly and harsly as possible.

I mean, gah, if something sucks, it sucks. Say it.

I guess so, but sometimes they do it just to prove they can. Say, they really have no reason to do it, they just think it will make them cool or some kind on legend. As far as legends go, there are infamous ones, but doing any flaming whatsoever a legend does not make.

Nice person + Anonymity on the net = Total bastard.

Lack of conseqences of your opinions virtually renders people's inhibitions and superego useless, so they say exactly what they feel without being held back.

It's still flaming. Whether you think you have a good reason or not doesn't change anything. You can't honestly think it's going to solve anything.

Everyone debates, everyone argues, and everyone has disagreements at some point in their lifetime.. That said, everyone also should well know by now, there are a lot of idiotic people in the world. This forum doesn't tolerate that kind of idiocy any longer, and regardless of whether you see it as flaming or not.. some people are just very fed up and tired of these fools and are coming right out and making it a point to say; "We don't like you either."

Constructive criticism has its place, but this is not one of them. No constructive thought or suggestion will resolve anything with the idiotic, so why even bother with it? And before you say, "then why bother saying anything at all?" keep in mind.. we're humans, we need to VENT sometimes.. And hell, this is the internet, if we just by chance happen to make a funny along with the "flaming" than it is all the better.

Unless of course, Internet = Serious Business to you.

refer to the greater internet fuckwad theory, as posted in penny arcade.

There is no point in trying to figure out why. Its like trying to figure out why people steal, or rape.

i think the politics discussion scene of this movie is their motivation. To them, a flame war is their only chance to flex their muscle because they know they can't get hurt.

They can't think of an intelligent way to express disagreement. (Or they're fighting fire with fire. )

I don't see how flaming in any way, shape or form can be enjoyable. I don't feel bad when I make others feel bad with intention, but I never usually do.

I like what Tarale said. You may forget that you are talking to a person, and use it as an opportunity to see what you can come up with in any given situation. But what really gets to me is that the people who come here, post annoying or stupid threads, then get banned probably sit there and think "Ha, I pwned them. My work here is done"

That's very cruel. Sorry, but I don't respect that kind of behaviour
