Nintendo wasn't really that arrogant. Sony's been arrogant ever since the Saturn vs. PS days, it seems. I mean, taking the wind out of Sega's sails by announcing $299 at E3 in 1995... |

Sony is getting arrogant as Nintendo did in it's dominance.
And everyone know how it went back then. I hope for something equal in this generation, and none getting too dominant though... Could be said though, I hadn't heard many of my friends talking about Xbox360 and I don't see it much in shops here. ...while I heard some of my classmates talking about Wii. And nothing negative about it even. First time I hear them talking about console gaming, otherwise they seem just to play PC games. |

Not getting a unit right away can be a good thing, especially if there are hardware kinks to get out. I'm not worried with availability on any system. I'm so far behind on games that I just finished Metal Gear Solid 3 and Final Fantasy IV Advance. |

Metal Gear Solid As much as I like Wii's controller, the hardware is really fucking gross. But.. I'll wait until everything is out, so it's not all speculation and hype, and there's actually a good line up of games out. |

I think Microsoft will be the winner in this generation, really... Nintendo has something of an image problem, and a lot of the big games seem to be releasing a multi-platform 360/PS3 game and a different game for Wii, leaving most people who would have otherwise bought a PS3 to opt for the 360 instead. |

You know how they say they won't price drop You know that they WILL price drop. Plus, MS has the biggest marketing machine that is up and running for their console right now. MGS4 can't save the PS3 in the face of whatever MS has up their sleeves.
Plus, Wii is my darkhorse winner of the new generation. I want to see it win, it is innovative...unlike PS3 or 360. Sony is going to shoot their own foot many times before they learn to ship a proper amount of units. MS has proven that a shortage can actually spur sales, at the anger of the gaming community. Sucks, we all know, but this is what happened when you're trying to feed at the hand of a corporate entity. |

That seems to be their strategy but they have a nice opportunity to get a shot or two in on Sony at the big event next Thursday.
I think that if Nintendo ever finds themselves in a position where they're right behind Sony or MS, they'll shift gears. |

Honestly, I'm not sure Nintendo even see themselves as competing directly with Sony and Microsoft anymore. They seem to be off doing their own thing strategy-wise. Not that this is a bad thing. |

Nintendo's going to have more market penetration than they would have thanks to the shortage. They might still be #3 but they can increase their market share.
I would hope that Sony makes good to Europe; you know, ship an ample amount of units in March. Probably won't happen but we'll see. |

I think the only logical outcome of this is a landslide shifting of support for the Wii. Sony will be in a good position to offer ecent games at launch but they must eat some massive slices of himble pie. |

The problem isn't so much that they're shipping so few units, but that the launch is going to be a disaster. I'd hate to be the manager of a game store and only be able to accept 3-4 preorders for launch and maybe another 3-4 for a few weeks after launch. Microsoft couldn't meet demand last year and Sony sure as hell isn't going to this year.
And 100,000 for launch in JAPAN, Sony's home country?!? I'm sorry, but that's just absurd. If nothing else, at least this probably means more strong PS2 support over the next year or two because not everyone who wants a PS3 is going to get one. |

Originally posted by Jilkon Yeah but the games are always good or different. Lets look at the Mario RPG series, they are always different and never the same as the old game. (The person who says that paper Mario TTYD and Paper Mario 1 are the same will be shot) Or Zelda for grabing our hearts with the story and gameplay. Metroid I really don't know... The point I am trying to make is that even though they have the same characters, they are not the same game with a few changes. (Megaman I Probally would of still played Paper (someguy) and the 1000 year door even if it did not have mario. Though I may not of enjoyed it so much. I have to admit some games on the ps2 were really well done. Katami demachi(sp? who knows?) and Kingdom Hearts was really something. However I like the games that came out for gamecube better. Also think we are going to see some new games with this generation.... But that was all very offtopic, I think it is kinda unfair that sony would do this, I know lots of people in canada would be mad too if this happend. It's like shooting yourself in the foot.... Though they might not have much of a foor left... All the times they have shot it... |

It's not that I'm a Nintendo fanboy (I'm not), but the PS3 has just not interested me at all. Not one bit. And the same goes for nearly all my mates (and the ones who were getting it are now getting a wii instead because of the release delay). The wii has games that I'm looking forward to, and looks to be an exciting console to me. The PS3 however...doesnt. Simple as that. |

Personally I have enough reason to buy a PS3 just because of sequels I know will come. And just a small notice, no nintendo guy has any right to speak about that . (It always sorta bothered me how nintendo are always like "Hey, here's our new system, and here's Mario, Zelda and Metroid! New games! No really!"). As for the delay, it sorta bothers me because it's lame, but then I don't want to buy the first version anyway, it goes for most stuff that the first version has some nasty bugs. (See x360, Destroyer of Discs for more info). |

They weren't going to release a lot of units at launch but I expected a number larger than 500,000 total; and only 100,000 for Japan?!? |

I'm confused... aside from an overinflated price tag and ridiculous delays, what exactly is the PS3 offering?
I'm not even sure if I'm interested in any consoles at the moment... it will depend I guess what comes out on the Wii... |

Why am I not surprised? Sony wasn't going to have enough systems for all three continents, so they dropped #3 from the list; typical reaction.
What's even worse is that Sony released launch numbers today... North America gets 400,000 units at launch and Japan gets 100,000 units. The Christmas rush is going to be won by Microsoft, with Nintendo an easy second and snake-bitten Sony in third. This is bad. |
