I'm also debating whether to keep Adblock or use Adblock Plus. They both work well but have different features, and I've used them both but I just can't decide.

Adblock + with less of a memory footprint for the win.
It also does everything adblock did for me so .

Hmm.... that sounds like one of the more nifty tools that they don't have in any across-the-board sense in OS X. Although there are some applications that do volume independently, I don't think I can turn... say.. Firefox's volume down...

All the "'Verb' the 'Noun' and get a free ringtone!" ads or the CrazyFrog ads.

I HATE Crazy Frog with the wrath of 1000 suns and I hate ringtones.

I should go seek one of those ads with a proxy on, just for the gimmick of seeing them say "meet local girls in saudi arabia!". Screenshot and then a "... that was dissatisfying =( ". Then never bother pasting it to paint

The worst are the ones that know where I live, so it's dating websites or some such that say, "Meet attractive sigles in Ruston, La." And then have pictures of some generic girls who in no way live anywhere near anyone or have profiles on any such website. I mean seriously, that's both somewhat invasive AND insulting.

Those can be funny when they accurately guess the town I live in, because I know everyone in this 1/8th-horse town and can immediately tell the person pictured does not live nearby.

Combine that with porn ads and that's what I get on torrent sites. I agree, invasive and annoying as hell to see some chick's ass hanging on my screen when I'm trying to do other things with other people possibly around.

Like your sitting there on a free shockwave game site (several years ago, when shockwave pwned) and some supermodel comes up and you get grounded for looking at porn. Then, mom went some other site and saw the same exact shit, and did nothing!

I use Adblock, but it seems to be of little / no benefit on that realestate website.

Unless I want to block all pictures...

It annoys me that they're just advertising real estate companies, none of whom are actually any help to a person looking for a rental property...

It helps somewhat for me. I don't get the ads from one site on another.

Rydain ftw. I don't understand the logic but advertisers seem to want to annoy people into buying from them these days. You know what I do to people who annoy me? At best, I leave, at worst, I punch them in the nose. I certainly don't buy things from them. The only ads I can stand are plain text or small nonmoving banners, that blend in with the page well, load fast, and aren't in the way. Unfortunately Google is the only company I know of that did these any good. Before they started using banners and Flash I was actually considering putting Google ads on my website, at least after I redesign it to have enough content to be worth the effort.

In 2003 I always used some shareware tool called Ad-muncher- it was extremely aggressive and even got rid of the little 88x31 buttons . That tool was a fricking need anyway, especially since the P100 doesn't have the power to load every 100kb gif / flash applet on the page

YA RLY

There are so many annoying ads that I find it easiest to describe the type that don't annoy me. Text ads clearly separated from the content and relevant to the content (namely, Google's AdWords) don't get in my way, and they are more likely to interest me than some random subject that has nothing to do with what I'm reading. Google's sponsored links are similarly OK. Sometimes when I search for something, I'm looking for a place to buy it, so the sponsored links can be very helpful in that regard. I also don't mind inobtrusive banners. In a nutshell, show me something relevant that doesn't get in the way of the content, and I'll leave it be.

The rest gets BALEETED with AdBlock. If I have to say which ads I hate the most, I'd go with the ones that make sound. What knuckle-dragging bottom-feeding nimrod came up with the brilliant idea of interrupting people's music or quiet with some inane loud noise? "Well, we could try to come up with an interesting ad that people will want to click on, but that involves work! Let's just annoy them until they click the ad to shut it up!" Haven't they ever heard of people forming negative associations with brands?

Some of the advertising that annoys me, is on a realestate website I go to -- four actual listings, then an ad... four listings... ad....

Really annoys me, I'm there to look into finding a place to live... I don't like the "interruption".
