Darn I was gonna say Paint.net, it's good but doesn't have way too many features. It's got layers and effects, and there's a recolor option, but it works like a brush instead of a one-click thing. It's got a good resize tool and I think it has some sort of crop
I actually use CTRL+X, CTRL+SHIFT+N, shrink the image, CTRL+V in Paint, but Windows Vista's Paint has a crop option.

I'm not the only one that does that combo of commands? Damn, I thought I was smart when I pieced those together a good while back on my own.

I always do that when taking screenshots so I don't have to trim the white space around it. So few people seem to realize this can be done, and you end up with an 800x600 screenshot being a mostly-white 2000x2000 bitmap.

You could try Paint.NET if you're not after anything too complex, but you want something more advanced than MSPaint.

You need the .NET Framework though for it to work -- they offer a download on that site with that too.

Anyways, I don't know really what to suggest for the grid, aside from drawing your own, and I just use a combo of photoshop, paint, and Irfanview for anything that I need done.

2. Eraser, right click instead of left. Replaces foreground with background where applied.

3. Use a different image tool e.g. Irfanview.

Draw one yourself Just something as a background to go with.

There are like a hundred free image editors/drawing apps floating in the Internet I know. I figure I shouldn't have to be struggling with MS Paint when I'm sure there is something out there for me.

Does anyone have any recommendations to an easy to use, no BS features that I would never use. I don't need to have 100 layer support, or plug in support for weird looking effects.

Basically, a perfect app for me right now would be an MS Paint with these extra features.

1. Crop..you know..the kind of crop that you just press a button and it crops all the white(Transparent) background around the image.

2. Replace color...select the color blue..then select the color red..press the button and it replaced all blue pixels with red, and or switches blue pixels with red and vice versa.

3. The ability to re size/stretch while keeping a high quality. When MS paint re sizes anything that isn't 200%..400%...it really skews up the picture. I know some apps have a pop up window that lets you choose the quality of the image before you re size resulting in a very clean accurate re size.

4. The ability to view a grid of any size. Mspaint grid feature basically just makes a 1pixel wide grid..not very useful. I want to be able to view a 32 x 32 pixel grid across my image to accurately align tiles and such.

I guess I could just download GIMP, but like I said before, I would really like to avoid getting a big huge complex editor that has features I'm never going to use and will be to heavy for me to have multiple instances of it and/or have other apps running. My comp is not state of the art.

I appreciate any comments.
