The news here did a survey about Pluto.

EVERYONE who answered said that it was a planet and their perception of it wouldn't change. I think they'll need to drill this one into our heads... maybe take out PSA's for TV?

I asked my old Physical Science teacher, and he said 9, too. Maybe we should build a Death Star and really blow up Pluto, or maybe we have and it's classified.

Actually they are building the Death Star out of Saturn's moon Mimas.

Yeah, I guess since schools have to buy new textbooks without Pluto in them, all they want is money. Pluto was my favorite planet too.

All you need to do is just put a bunch of stickers that read "dwarf" into the science textbooks and you'd be set.

Heck, leave pluto alone we the general public have the right to decide if pluto is a planet! Not some damn scientist. Now theve gone and mucked up the system! In the words of stewie DAMN YOU!

Sure you do.

Now go off and become an astronomer and I might start caring about what you say about the universe.

Guys. Still a technical planet. Just not a Classical planet. Your text books don't need a massive rewriting. A short lecture explaining the nuances of the new system and BAM your kids are up to speed and you can catch the idiots who don't listen in class and only study from the text book.

Exactly, the world is coming to an end, but still, im gonna miss pluto... I had heard that pluto was taken away from another solar system? I also heard it was double moon. lets hope we wont lose contact with voyager when it gets near pluto. then we can get proof whether its a planet or not.

Not so much society falling apart as society getting pissed off.

It's fine for future generations but the current generation is set in its ways.

If the general public was the one that would determine things, SO much would be messed up right now. Gravity? What's that? Things fall because they want to, damnit!

Dwarf planet... Heh. Pluto always was the odd one out. Wasn't there a debate about whether it should qualify as a planet for a while now? I seem to recall theories about it being an escaped moon of Neptune several years ago.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter too much how it's classified. Of course, if it's not counted, all of the old mnemonic devices don't work any more. Obviously, this will cause an unravelling of society as we know it.

Ah, it was such a lovely planet too....cold, barren, 3 000 000 000 miles away. Life goes on.

Boy, will Mickey ever be pissed at this

5 years from now, I bet that you could do a survey and most people will say Pluto is a planet.

Given that recent surveys have found most people can name more of the Seven Dwarfs then US Supreme Court justices, more of The Three Stooges then branches of government, and can't point out Iraq on a map, I think most people would answer "Mickey Mouse's dog".

Pluto is still technically a planet. However its new classification makes it a DWARF planet rather than a classical planet. You can keep your old text book. Its not going to cause a massive economic back lash if a kid doesn't know that there are technically more than a dozen planets and only 8 classical planets.
