I like how people ask questions about something that's not even out yet.

I'm pretty sure whatever they have is not final, so even giving answers based on what we have now could be totally useless.

IIRC, Nintendo never mentioned how their emus will work, but it's safe to assume it WON'T work with common formats.

It's been strongly hinted that you can use external USB drives to store content on the Wii, so I'm sure that several programmers will be VERY interested in that fact.

Even if someone gets around the protection and makes free emulators for the Wii, most people probably will still use the VC.

Not really, pirates already know how to dump ROMs and distribute them

But imagine the hardware they would need to make...it would make the cost skyrocket which is not something they were hoping to do with the Wii (they wanted to make its pretty affordable if I remember...) besides, cart dumping hardware is just asking for pirates to reverse engineer it and use it to distribute ROMs

It's not a hard drive, it's 512MB of flash plus an SD card reader. The ROMs will undoubtedly be encrypted to stop people from copying them.

I do wonder, though, if Nintendo could provide a way to dump your old carts onto it. That'd solve the problem that you have to buy multiple copies.

If the Wii gets a hard drive, some way to transfe rto that hard drive, and the N64 emulator is written to support many games, this could very well be a possibility. But since I don't think there will be a way to transfer files onto the hard drive (and we must still find out how to make the emulator load those!), I wouldn't put my hopes up to it.

Okay, I get the idea that you can't port the N64 emu from the wii to a PC. But, if the wii has a hard drive (don't know much about it) can't you put N64 games onto it from a flash drive and play the *free* N64 games you downloaded off of the internet on the wii. Or does the wii's emu use a different format than .v64, .z64, etc.? Even if it does, couldn't someone possibly make a conversion program in the futur?
