Posts: 1/1		 I prefered the old ZDTV and TechTV incarnations to G4 greatly. Back when Screensaver's was fucking amazing with Kate and Leo hosting it, Gamespot TV was actually intelligent (Adam was the host), and a few other rare shows were worth watching. G4 has basically gone the way of MTV, where it has become less and less about it's original concept.

As for Jack, he's fun to laugh at. Got to love the screwy logic people like him try to exert on others. "Doom trains you to shoot up your school!" What, it does? You mean my awesome manual dexterity translates into godlike agility and accuracy in the real world? Shit, I'm gonna go be a Marine then!

His personal vendetta against Rockstar is also amusing. Most everyone will agree that Rockstar simply makes inferior games that are still fun to play. GTA has always been a bad game and not very well constructed, but it's FUN to players and that's why it's popular. They are very tongue in cheeck about the stuff they do, with the exception of Manhunt. Horrible game, but also tried to show the violence on a different side to horrify you, not amuse you.

There are much greater threats than Jack Thompson, one's that fly under the radar so as not to get as much attention about what they want.

Even though Screensavors ultimately became Attack of the Show ... I really don't see them as the same show, at all.

Attack of the Show really sucked when it first officially started up. It was really like "Let's show viewers funny stuff we found on the internet". Its gotten better now, but its still a half-assed show if you ask me.

Posts: 4083/5814		 Not so much the younger viewers... they just think that said type of programming appeals to the masses. Specialty networks will usually tweak their programming until they're happy with it.

Posts: 58/67		 I used to like that Tech TV ( Mainly Screensavers) used to actually be a bit usefull and informing. Now it's obviously trying to cater to the younger viewers with lame attempts at comedy and constand video game news and reviews that are months old. (and very commercial)

Hell no. I thought TechTV for the most part, was interesting to watch. And even though old G4 repeated reruns over and over again, it was better than current G4.

The thing I hate about G4 now, is how 80% of it isn't even videogames anymore. What the hell is Star Trek on there? Yeah, I have no gripe with Star Trek, but that series has been on what, every single channel now? Then they've got some shows about cars ..., etc. And its funny to see that X-Play is now pretty much their main reviewing show, even though it wasn't their's in the first place (I've heard Adam and Morgan, and maybe one other person are the only people left from TechTV now).

Either way, I'm not trying to compare G4 to TechTV or anything, or even old G4, but I just really don't like what its become. It seems pretty much exactly like SpikeTV nowadays, and heck, SpikeTV even has their own videogame shows now.

Not really. Jack Thompson is nothing compared to Tipper and the PMRC, which actually was pressing for criminal charges on musical artists. Also, Adam Sessler sucks. And G4 in general.

If that were the case, then we could just say he's a vocal opponent of violent games but concede that he's not without his points.

Yeah, but he sure does make for entertaining TV and makes a fantastic salesman. I'm sure G4TV could not be happier with Thompson's behavior and the way he is. He creates turmoil and makes video games 'newsworthy.' And I'm sure Rockstar/Take 2 are absolutely loving this.

Kids hear, "Don't buy Bully, its too bloody, Don't buy Bully, it takes place in a school just like yours, Don't buy Bully, you may or may not be able to beat up your math teacher, Don't buy Bully, coming this October." Gee, I wonder if a kid could possibly be more excited about a video game.

The media(Thompson AND G4TV) keep talking about violent video games and their effects on children, what the hell did they think was gonna happen. News, Commercial..children don't know the difference. They see that commercial of a lady playing New Super Mario Bros on her DS in the park, so they want that. They see Jack Thompson debating with that funny guy from the video game show about some game called Bully, so they want that.

..but yeah..its up the parents and shit.

Really? I see. However, if I remember correctly, he was complaining specifically about a mod, and apparantly knew nothing about the console uncensoring. I may be wrong though. It's been a long time.

Regardless, the sims had no detail to their textures below the censoring.. just a flat skin texture, nothing there beyond a vague shape of a bust on the female sims.. So yea, his claim was ridiculous even so.

But at any rate, Wacko Jacko's arguments are crazy and irrational. He's the kind of person that would blame Pong for the accidental breaking a window during a tennis match (as unlikely as it is). Hell, in that debate, you can even hear him start to stutter when his points are being disproven (although to be fair: both sides are insane; Sessler came off as an angry nerd). It probably won't be long until the guy is driven completely insane, is ripped apart in a real debate, starts to be ignored, or all of the above.
