Well, if someone did do that, then they'd go to hell and die. Think security won't be looking for that now, especially considering liquid explosives are the scare tactic du jour?

You know what bothers me? Is that you were allowed to have gel and aerosol on an airplane before, so why all of a sudden the fear? How many other people tried carrying Nitroglycerin (Or any other unstable liquid based explosive) in their carryons? Whats stopping someone from stuffing plastic explosives in their childrens Play-Do containers?
I mean, what is the likelyhood someone will go out of their way to bring some nitro on a plane again, regardless of how precise it isto compose, and try to not set off security. SHOOT ME UP WITH FEAR, BABY! |

Originally posted by ||bass Yes, but you live in Salem. I mean, Colchester (which is closer than Portland, thus the edit) probably qualifies as "omgwow". (Although I'm sure there's SOMETHING in New London, and that's not even half an hour away.) Bigger news: SNOW TOMATO LIVES. As for the liquid issue, how's about stores past security selling water and allowing you to take that on flights? I'm just sayin', that way, you know what's going onboard. The flight attendants tend to be too overworked/inattentive (a little of column A, less of column B) for my tastes (although at least they were able to furnish me with enough coffee to drown some small woodland creatures the last time I flew out to Seattle, as I was running on... oh, at least 24 hours without sleep). KP9000: Didn't someone else here work at an airport? In Wisconsin, I think... forget if he changed his name. But (as the kids say) watashi no kyo no tashika naraba... he was a skycap, I think. |

I've never seen the whole 'omgwow' facination with going to all sorts of weirdo places. We have everything we could possibly ever need here. Also, along the same topic, according to congressional resolution, if any American is arrested abroad for any kind of war crimes, the president is -required- by law to use any and all military force necissary to return the citazen safely home. |

I see the sarcasm detectors have been turned off.
The only problem with making everyone dead is that people tend to respawn quickly. Granted an H-bomb would take care of the problem but that's hardly a viable option. The problem will be solved when everyone over there stops worshipping the invisible man in the sky who is telling them to kill anyone who doesn't worship him. |

Yeah, instead you get the problem that anyone in the American government or Air Force gets arrested for crimes against humanity when they travel abroad...
OOPS! |

As MathOnNapkins already said. If everyone in the middle eastern region is dead there will be no more regional instibility. You can't have sectarian violence and kurdish rebel groups and mujadin militants and all the other stupid shit if everyone is razed into heaps of ash. Thus, problem solved. |

How does that solve the problem? |

The situation in Iraq will stabilize when everyone is dead. I swear every day I read a headline with 30-50 people dead in Iraq lately. And the Lebanon/Israel thing isn't helping much either. |

HAH. I'm not sure what to say about the last two posts except.. nicely done.
This is terrible. This is really awful.. I'm glad they caught the guys cause you know.. they were planning to fly to New York City and Boston.. and I have family in both places and I live in New York City. But if they were gonna do that anywhere it'd be just as equally awful. This has to end honestly. I don't think going to war with them is going to help... because there will always be terrorists. There has to be some way to get them to look at the situation rationally.. and make them realize that they're not gaining ANYTHING by this. I don't think that's possible.. so we'll just war with them through it.. but it's getting absolutely ridiculous. If they just lived in America they'd know that most Americans aren't horrible people worthy of killing. But they don't.. Obviously. And I'm talking alot of hypotheticals right now. And Condalleeza Rice doesn't deal with "a hyptothetical". I am extremely anti-war.. but I can only hope that the Iraq situation works out for everyone in the end. Because honestly you can give up on the war.. say it's a failure before it's done... but we've already destablized and harmed the region.. and we need to fix the mess. Hopefully Iraq can stand on it's own two feet soon.. and we need to take steps to ensure that they're doing their part.. but for now we need to finish our mess. You can't change the fact that we went in there. We're there. I don't agree with our decision to go there.. but you can't drop a bomb and not deal with the aftermath. And hopefully when it's stabilized.. and they feel accepted as a part of the world instead of isolated.. the region will stabilize. And that's my hope. But Isreal is still there. So.. there's always going to be war in that region. And war breeds terrorists.. who wish to end their oppression and pain in a violent way as opposed to a peaceful one. Maybe soon they'll learn as the Sepoy army did in India.. that fighting an imperial power with force doesn't work. The middle east needs another Gandhi. |

You could be totally safe and it will still find a way to get in there. However you're safer than you're letting on. You're forgetting that it is becoming very hard to get the components for large scale explosives and such. |

You know, I work at the airport in Phoenix, responsible for loading and unloading planes among other things. That being said, there are SO many possibilities to get explosives on the planes through the workers. Surprisingly, it's easy to get a job at an airliner as well.
It's unsettling to think that there are still so many security issues that exist. Just when you thought you were safe, you aren't. |

Nah, Islamo-fascists is thrown around all the time by right-wingers. I mean, ultimately, it is a stupid term. Fascism was primarily a European thing that wasn't based on fanatic religious basing (although some were). It was very hard on forwarding national progress and modernization in many respects. Islamic fundamentalism (like Wahhabism) isn't exactly all about forwarding a nation. |

I think that banning the sale of liquids between the security checkpoint and boarding (in Ottawa and Montreal) is going WAY too far. If you've done a thorough check of the baggage and the passenger and see that he/she is 100% clean, then there shouldn't be any risk. If anything, make them throw the container out before boarding, but come on...
Aside from that, Canada's restrictions are pretty lax at the moment - none of the shampoos/hair gels/etc. Electronic devices still allowed, but apparently in the UK they won't even allow THOSE; if I had to do a flight across the pond without my iPod or DS, I'd go nuts. As a temporary measure, blanket restrictions are fine; if they become permanent, then that's a sign of paranoia. Ziff: I could NOT believe that Bush said "fascists" when I watched today. I think he meant to say "fanatics", but... yikes. |

Well...For the amounts of flights that take place every day...it doesn't bother me. I went on a flight following 9-11 pretty easy-like. It has never really bothered me.
