It wasn't an article about Mario Adventure, just about ROM hacking in general (and it was fairly crappy, claiming the best hacking tool is NESticle, and describing a bunch of old hacks that weren't even close to being the cream of the crop at the time the article was published), and it wasn't even same magazine either; the old Retro Gamer went kaboom about a year ago (November 2005 sounds about right), but ended up being relaunched by a different publisher and a different team of writers.

2 months ago, this new incarnation even published a well-researched article on Rom Translations, where the author not only had some previous knowledge of the subject, but went to the romhacking.net forums for information about the history of the translation scene, which translations were considered the most noteworthy, etc., even interviewed several translators, instead of simply googling "rom translations" and putting together what information he got from the first 5 hits, like the rom hack article guy back then apparently did.

As for evidence of the existance of such an article, should it be written, I subscribe to the magazine and could easily provide scans/photos.

Thta would be a valid idea, except

- Retro Gamer doesn't have viewable archives, or anything about the previous issues at all other than a tiny cover thumbnail
- Retro Gamer doesn't have articles on site
- ...their forum seems to delete old review pages

I definitely remember there being a thread DD made on there about his hack (they fudged osmething up pretty badly in it), but I can't find it now. :/ In fact, it seems like the whole forum got wiped ometime Nov. 2005, which I'm sure isn't when it started. Damn.

You know, the british magazine Retro Gamer has an emulation-related article each issue, and they've written about ROM hacking before. Having them publish an article about noteworthy hacks should shut those wikipedia elitists up.

Is this debate or what?

What? It IS used like that fairly frequently, despite his sarcastic response. Also, irc.php. I don't see what the problem is with replying to a response to my statement of opinion. But feh, fine. So long as no further statements are made on this tangent, I will not make further statements on this tangent.

And I'll take that as a "yes, I'm trolling".

If you have nothing to contribute to the thread, Kyouji, then zip it. Final warning.

Of course, things may have changed in Alastorland.

Also, didn't we cleave apart IRC and acmlm's a while back? Don't bring crap that happens off board to the board unless you want to provide logs or releveant and pertinant information.
I will take that as a "Yes, I'm inattentive."

edit to add: no one cares shall never be taken to mean a non-literal meaning.

Anyways, my primary issue with your statement is the main course that we're "bashing" it. Most people are stating their opinions on something that is nothing but an entrenched bunch of basement dwelling loser know-it-alls that are high on policy wonkery. As for the desert, your statement that no one cares, it seems that the "people are still posting" is just ice cream with pwnage chocolate sauce on top.
My comments make perfect sense given the crap that was going on in IRC stemming from this thread. As for my "no one cares" statement, sure it's not true if you want to be literal about it, but you'd have to be pretty inattentive not to realize it's used all the time to mean "That's irrelevant and stupid."

I never said I hated Wikipedia - I *like* the content that's on there and I kill time there frequently. I'm starting to hate what lies under the content, however.

It irks me that you're senselessly bashing Wikipedia. I like Wikipedia, and I'm just as qualified to voice my opinion about things on the interwebs as you are.

If people are still posting in the thread, then it's relevant. If you don't like it, then ignore the thread. Problem solved!

GameFAQs is completely and entirely different to Wikipedia.

By that logic, you could knock out several pages at once; for example, how do printed sources matter for 4chan?

isn't it ironic that a digital encyclopedia insists on printed references for everything?

I'm fairly certain that ANY rom hacks of note are welcome on AcmlmWiki, so if you want to add some/flesh out others, feel free.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
