FYI, in VLC you need to choose a format and enter a path in the options dialog, then the images would be saved to that path.

I'm not sure what Windows Media Player you are using but I was using the one provided by Microsoft, not Media Player Classic--that does something different, which has Ctrl+I.

Unless there's some tirck to doing it, no it can't.
The snapshot option shows a small picture in the top corner and it fades away.
That's it.

So uh...yeah...I was dead wrong.

Thank you. I didn't find the pictures after I found Power DVD Ripper and converted it to a REALLY crappy RES and I went looking for the picture I captured with virtra dub and Guess what I found?

SCREENIES!!!

I'll be posting my friend's pic on my sig soon.
...damn I miss her...

Thank you guys.

It has nothing to do with the screen capture routine. Video cards display hardware-accelerated video by internally replacing a specific color on the screen (R16 G0 B16, very dark purple). Since (AFAIK) this data is not passed through the video driver, screen capture programs will only see the dark purple overlay area.

You can try disabling your video card's hardware acceleration, which should cause programs to render the video in software, though I don't know if it works with DVDs or not (I've only tried it with video files).

Virtual Dub or Adobe Premiere can do it. I'm not sure about Adobe Premiere, but Virtual Dub can load only AVIs. But yes, you're correct, you can't use Print Screen to capture a movie. Want to see something freaky? Print screen and paste, but leave the movie runing. You'll see the movie playing instead of that black screen.

I have PowerDVD and the CTRL+I isn't working nor is there a snapshot option.
CTRL+I doesn't work for Media Player either.

If you have DVD playing software on your computer, you can use that to take screenshots. I know PowerDVD gives a function of capturing frames of a DVD. If you are using Windows Media Player to play DVDs (*shudders*), try Ctrl+I (I as in "I am hungry").

Irfanview might be able to help you, but I'm not sure. It might be related to the Overlay mode most video players use(d).

Nope.
Same as paint.

Thanks anyways guys. I guess I'll just have to do it the long hard way. Convert the DVD to avi and find a program that loads the video. (Like Sonic MyDVD)
I know it can do it but the shots are so freaking small.
God what a pain...

I had a friend die back in april and her family sent me a picture DVD of her growing up.
I wanted to know if anyone knew of someway to take a screen shot of a video player.
PRNT SCRN doesn't work. All it shows is a black screen in paint.

Is there a program that would do so?
I googled it but all I found was stuff to record activity to AVI.
That's not what I'm looking for -__-;
