Lithium Batteries were rechargable from the start, AFAIK, and I don't think there is such a thing as a non-rechargable lithium battery.
And CR2032 are standard on nintendo carts I *think*. So yeah, you should be able to mod your GB or GBC to do that, assuming it doesn't already, in which case you might just have a bad battery/SRAM chip. |

But if the battery currently on the cartridge isnt a rechargable one, attempting to recharge it could cause negative effects. It could even explode, I know this to be true with alkalines and though I really SHOULD know more about the mechanics of lithium based batteries, I don't think it'd be a good idea of course, if the battery is of a rechargable nature (and, lithum batteries may be just that), then by all means, give it a go. |

No. |

Okay, thanks for clearing that up.
Also, does this mean I have more than 3 brain cells? |

I think they do... I'm pretty sure the batteries have a conenction to the power bus, because they have to be connected to the actual SRAM as well. |

Yeah, Silver is the only game I've owned whose battery is died, probably because of the clock. Also, they may be rechargable but I don't think the games actually recharge them. |

Uhhm...they tend last a LOT longer than that..my Pokemon game is much older than 4 years and the battery is still working, and I have games going on 10+ whose batteries are still going strong. |

usually depending on game usage they could last 2-3/4 years but Pokemon Gold has a RTC which means the battery is in use constantly |

Well, my guess would be a couple years at least. Those CR2032 battiers are lithium-manganese supposedly, and are rechargable AFAIK.
My SNES cartridges (which use CR2032 batteries) have lasted years. |

Question about battery: How long of battery life would you say a GBC game lasts for? My Pokemon Gold game deletes itself every time, and I'm interested in how long it lasts. |

I'd rather develop my own emulator, but that means finishing a Windows version first, and that means finishing my attempt at a GBC flashcart so I can test things. |

Heh, electrical tape pwns all. I use it for jsut about everything, including crafts
But yeah, good to hear that you fixed your battery. I'm going to just insert a new one into my STFX cart, the old one has two holes in it. |

About the GBC emulator for DS theres one called DS_GBC (name probably took ages to think of lol) http://www.neoflash.com/compos/compo05_files/apps/ds_gbc-Ethos.zip It works good on emulator (DeSmuME) but officially there is no sound and the emulator isn't being further developed as it was made for the neoflash comp last year. It would be brilliant to see a full speed GBC emulator with sound. Obviously the DS with ARM9 can handle it lol I would be only too happy to be a beta tester for this if you are developing |

Electrical tape, actually. Had to wrap it around the battery several times, then around the mainboard a few times, to keep it held in tight, but it works. |
Sukasa Posts: 1244/2068 |
Tape. Masking tape that is. Or duct tape.
That should work for you. |

Yeah, I might be able to fix it. If not, I guess I'll have to work on a GBC emu for the DS that can run the game at full speed.
I found something fun, though. I dug out this old Mega Memory Card, which backs up saves from GB games. It had this really, really old Silver save on it, and I was able to restore it to the cartridge, then power off and on again really fast and play it despite the lack of a battery. The clock even kept time, except it was set to 14:50 PM. [edit] Hah! I found where the broken connector leads, stuck a wire in, and connected the battery to it. It works, so long as I hold the battery in place with my finger. I just need to find some way of keeping it there. |

Originally posted by HyperMackerel I encountered a similar problem while experimenting with a Gold cartridge. when repairing I recommend putting the PCB in the fridge for 5 minutes before soldering to minimise chance of burning out possibly irreplacable components in the cart. I was replacing the baery in my friends Gold cartridge and I used a 3.1v li-ion battery - it seemed to work fine and that was a year ago it still works great. |

Maybe... Does the battery have "CR 2032" on it? I took apart a Stunt Race FX cartridge, and it had that battery on it (killed the SRAM taking the battery off, but the cart still works fine...) If so, just solde rthe battery to the silver cart. Worked for me when I had to reattach the battery to my SNES cart. |

Nice. Somehow the battery in the Silver cart was completely dead, while the one in an old broken Yellow cart still worked. Unfortunately I ripped the connector off prying the old battery out. I might try to fix it later, but I only really intended to use that cart for experimentation anyway.
BTW, the Yellow cart has those same 4 pads. Maybe they're just for testing the circuit? |
