I made (and released) an ASM hack that used the level pointer table instead of the normal pointers. Link.

Someone needs to hack it to actually load a level from the table, not just change the pointer.

As Smallhacker already said, the entrance levels probably don't support FuSoYa's special objects, which are responsible for loading ExGFX, palettes, backgrounds, etc.

So... does your program support ExGFX; because this happened when I used it (I didn't change ANY levels; I did change the OW, though)....

1st of all; thanks. Secondly, this has to do w/ asm pointers b/c I was talking about the castle entrance address I found POINTING to the level loaded and tryed to change it to 1FF and it didn't work. Either 1, I'm using the wrong terminolgy, 2, I'm an idiot, or 3, uh.., whatever.

There's already a program for it: SMW - Level Entrance Repointer.

...however, it shouldn't be fully trusted. The entrance levels may sometimes get messed up (at least the background). My guess is that the entrance levels dislikes the level format changes made by FuSoYa.

Also, you have to use the program every time you edit the entrance level (since LM may move it around, making the pointer point at the wrong place.) Also, I've heard that locking the ROM will move the level, causing problems, meaning that you have to repoint one last time after locking the ROM. (To make SMW-LER able to open locked ROMs, use the command line parameter "-steal".)

Edit: Also, what have this thread got to do with ASM pointers?

Well, I switched out gfx file 17 with a exgfx file. the exgfx file had like gfx for the smashable bricks and stuff I use a lot. It'd be annoying to have to load it for EVERY NEW LEVEL so, since 17 is default, I switched them. Problem is, I overwrote the bushes and the castle entrance got messed up. Also; I'd like to put new GFX for the castle entrance. So.... How do I point the Castle entrance to load it from level 1FF? (I found a castle entrance pointer on an older memory thread; but vouldn't get it to work (I changed it to 1FF.) Any detailed instructions on how to do it with a Hex Editor? I know you can as I saw it done in (PITMK; not sure.)
