If you have mySQL, then do what spiroth10 said:

1. Find config.php
2. Find the four variables (something like $sqlpass, $sqluser)
3. From there it's fairly obvious. $sqlpass and $sqluser are your mySQL server login (see with the hosting for your username and password)
4. $sqlhost (or something having "host" in it is "localhost". Never change this unless your host has mysql somewhere else. But most of the time it's localhost.
5. Then, there's $dbname. It's the name of the database that the Acmlmboard will use. THE DATABASE MUST ALREADY EXIST (else create it).

I don't think I can make this easier to understand.

If it has MySQL capabilities, is the server even running?

I don't want to be mean, but if you don't even know that much, I think you'd be better off with another forum system.

Also, spiroth10 has it almost right, except that IIRC, 1.8a had no /lib/ directory (it was all a big mess).

if you DO have mysql set up, did you edit /lib/config.php ?

thats where all the login info is stored (aboard has no automated installer like phpBB).
you have to edit that (don't worry, it's pretty easy) so it connects to your database.

do you have MySQL server set up? the board relies on a database to store the information. MySQL is that database. So, you will need to fix the configuration files to point to a MySQL server that will hold the database used by the board.
