I think it's kinda funny how we all vote for this kind of facism every 4 years, and nobody has ever changed the system at all. We don't need a court order to cure ourselves the way they want, we need new laws to ensure that we still have the freedom to do what we want without endangering others.

I bet this kid is going to die if he takes more radiation. I'd kill everyone who touched me if they tried to stick me into some radiation bin, to MAYBE get better.

Did you see the part where the "clinic" had to move to Mexico after clashes with authorities? They're snake oil dealers, selling phoney cures to desperate people. The most herbs are going to do is reduce the symptoms, they aren't going to cure his cancer. But since he's 16 and has the consent of his parent, he should be allowed to refuse treatment. But as the guy taking his 13 year old off chemo for vitamin C is child neglect.

What kind of name is Starchild? No, seriously, what in the nine hells were those parents thinking?

I'm not sure... maybe they're Native Americans. Or free spirits.

I'm sure the Virginia thing will be lifted if the ruling comes in their favor. It's just to ensure they don't become fugitives. GOD FORBID.

This doesn't necessarily apply to the kid, but even when you're mature, sometimes you just don't have the experience to make a good decision, when I was younger, I had way different plans than "live with my mom and go to college." But the more experienced I got with life, the more I knew my plans would be big failures. I'd be homeless in flordia right now if I had my way.

How do you leave the country when you're $100,000 in debt and fighting a lawsuit?

RUN AWAYYYY

really though, it was just a general statement of "you don't run the place, and you don't have to be there." I guess I didn't think it to well through, though.

Not to mention the judges have already ruled that they can't leave Virginia. Rather difficult to leave the country when you can't leave the state.

While I can definitely see the social service's side on the issue, I think it's a safe bet that everyone sides with the family. Last time I checked, alternative medicines were no big deal.

As for herbs not curing cancer, technically radiation and chemotherapy don't either. It's like bleach, it can kill the cancer cells, but it'll also kill everything else around it.

It sucks being a minor sometimes, doubly so if you're like this kid and you're perfectly able to make your own decisions about your own life and no one will let you.

No, but his plan might have some success.

I would suggest they leave the country. If you don't like the government why are you even there?

That aside, it doesn't suprise me really, but then again nothing suprises me anymore, it's a crooked world run by big business, so of course the government [who gets funding by guess who, business] is going to do something to keep getting more money. Not like they care about people or anything.

Who cares about an innocent family's loss of their son and all their money when you can make a quick buck?

yeah thats pretty much how the world thinks ;p

So they pay $100,000 for government-issued cures that don't work. Now they want to try another method, but it's suddenly become illegal. Really the question is whether they know his method will work and don't want people to know it, or just that they want to keep sucking more and more money out of the (very) poor bastard. Absolutely disgusting? Yes. Surprising? Not at all. Who cares about an innocent family's loss of their son and all their money when you can make a quick buck?

A social worker had asked a judge to require Abraham to continue conventional treatment, and in May the judge issued a temporary order finding Jay and Rose Cherrix neglectful for supporting their son's choice to pursue alternatives.

What the fuck?

I live in Virginia too. Other than that, I have only one thing to say.

What kind of name is Starchild? No, seriously, what in the nine hells were those parents thinking?

Everyone else said what I would've about the case, so... really, I can't think of anything else. =/

...Wow.

I'm rooting for this kid.

Incidentally, I also live in Virginia. Alastor is doing a good job being a jerk, that jerk.

What's really sad is the fact that this family is now having to pay all kinds of legal fees on top of the cost of all of thier other misfortune. That just really fucking sucks.

That's horrible. If he doesn't want treatment, they can't force him to endure it. I truly hope they drop the case or settle it in his favor.

It's not like the kid has a terminal disease or anything.

Can't see this not ending in the family's favor; the public outcry would be huge if it didn't.

What can I say? You suck.

I LIVE in Virginia, and its a fine place THANKS.

That aside, this... yeah... one of the not-so-good screwup cases that every state has now and then...

And yes, I am disgusted by the action of my Government.

I fully agree with what you said there Kasdarack.

I honestly don't even see a point in bringing the family to court because of that.

Bah. I've been discussing it on AIM with Danielle and it's sapped my posting fuel.

I have two very important words though. Civil rights.

Unless the state declares the boy legally insane, they can't force medication upon him. I forsee this case ending in favor of the family AND setting a good precedent.

I was less angry with the social services after I learned his cancer was Hodegkins' Lymphoma, which is very treatable, but only because I could kinda see it thier way.

The state is also afraid of highly publicized cases in which patients seek alternative medicine treatments because they consider such things to be voodoo quackery and don't want people getting ideas.

Ultimately, though, it's none of my or anyone else's business how a person who is obviously mature enough to make his own decisions chooses to seek treatment. It doesn't potentially hurt anyone but him. We have the right to make such choices in America, and it pisses me off when anyone abuses the judiciary system with foolish cases for the purpose of bullying people.
