it wasn't quite that annoying but you did have the occasional loser who'd edit their post

fifteen

times in a row and it'd get real annoying

hence why they now have a "minor edit" box that doesn't alert the irc channel

$url was global, and it'd p=#### (or t=####) for the url to the post

though I forgot it was global so it kept adding to it over and over
