They changed the date. Now it's the day I go to school. My dad is looking for a place to get dry that has people he can talk to about his depression. He was told if he does this on his own, he might just have to pay a fine and/or lose his licence. He sold his truck.

I'm taking a vacation up north for a week, the day after we get back, he goes to court. Keep your fingers crossed. I am.

Key in ignition just sitting there and not even turned will get you a DUI, if your drunk of course. My dad had a similiar situation where he was going to get married but he canceled because she said he couldnt do half the things he does. (Riding his Harley, going out with friends, etc...) So he canceled. And lucky for your dad my dad totalled three Dodge Intrepids, I guess its safe to say that they are safe.

Good luck man.

I still say have hope that the DA may be lenient on that second one considering the circumstances. But they're not gonna cut him a break unless he goes up there, is polite and civilized, and asks for one.

You know, I was wataching Everybody Loves Raymond the other day and this same thing happened to Debra. She was drunk, waiting in her car for Ray to pick her up, playing the radio in her car with the engine off, but the key in the ignition. The law is that if the ket is in the ignition, it's a DUI. =\

If he was in the driver's seat it's a dui even if the keys are not in the ignition. He might get a judge who's not an asshat and get off on that one, but he might not. I have a friend who got arrested for the same thing, and the last gig I played I got so smashed (because it was my last show) that I slept in the car and was told to be in the back or passenger's seat by a cop.

Pretty shitty if you ask me. I hope your pops doesn't do time. And I hope he pulls himself together. I lost the girl I thought I was gonna marry, and I'm not the most psychologically sound person in the world by any means, but I know that self destruction is not the answer. As far as alcohol/drugs go, I hate feeling really drunk or high or hungover so I could never keep that sort of thing up.

You and your dad should definately go to the District Attorney's office before your dad's court date and see what you can work out. Trust me on that. My dad's a DA. They're not usually heartless bastards. If you can convince them that he deserves a break they will probably give him one.

I can't stress that last paragraph enough.

That's sad. I wouldn't want to find my dad that drunk.

And no problem. I'm working towards a career doing something with law when I'm older so I've been doing a little studying. I'm here to help if you need it.

For DUIs? Most likely it'll just be a year tops. You don't normally go to prison for more than that just because you've had a couple of misdemeanors and infractions. If he's unlucky he could be facing more than a year, but I doubt it. You shouldn't be too concerned, but try to keep yourself updated by knowing everything that's going on. Don't lose hope.

Wow, this must suck. I feel bad for your dad, and for you. If he goes to jail, things will be bad for him, but then you'll have to go live with in foster home or something of the sorts. Try to keep your dad company and maybe he'll eventually feel better. Don't let him get drunk and drive. Make sure that if he drinks, keep him in the house. You don't want to lose both a chance at having a mom and then lose your dad to the law. If doing things with him doesn't work, try to get him to see a therapists. Maybe you could even try to find him a woman that he could go out with, but that may be a little bit beyond what you can do. If anything, just make sure he doesn't get himself arrested. Stick by him wherever he goes and hopefully things will get better.

Somehow, I don't think it was a mere crush. Why? He moved in with her. For half a year. he even had the guest list done, ring picked out, church picked out, time of the wedding ect. Then, five weeks after, she threw him out. It hurt me too, because I never HAD a mom and the bastards at my school mocked me.

Sadly, people don't obide by the rules of TEH ROAD nowadays, and seem to think they can get away with anything.
Your dad was very lucky, but IMO, he should've been caught, and charged.

Sad truth... People get away with these things when they shouldn't.

ENFORCE ROAD RULES MORE, GODDAMNIT!

While he may be hurt by the marriage being called off, getting DUIs and acting so irresponsibly isn't the answer. And as an adult and father... he shoud damn well know that.

You could try talking some sense into him, but I really don't know the kind of relationship you have with him. Just hope he cleans up his act soon.

But that's the most rediculous answer to his problem.
He obviously went into the friendship with a crush on this woman, and after so long, she turned him down.

If there an attraction at either end, then the "Let's be friends" topic will ALWAYS hurt, regardless of age.

Maybe she didn't want to spoil a good friendship with him through marriage. She didn't want to risk losing him as a friend so maybe that's why she called it off. Besides, that must suck getting a wedding called off at the last minute. Spend some time with your dad to keep him from doing crazy things. Ask him if you can go places with him like a park or something.
