If my current employer would call me at this time, they surely want to ask If a can come in the next hour, I will just politely refuse and say, that I'll have an hour or two till I'm at work, and won't be able to come because I do not work during the week (as it states in my contract).

Don't people just check aviable times before they ask? I can not work on thuesdays. Never. No Discussions.

Or just because Zürich has Sechseleuten, it doesn't mean that Rapperswil (about 40km from Zürich) has also holiday.

But yes, I would allways answer the call. It goes better with the employer and adds bonus points. (once a manager thanked me, because I answered the phone (i did decline)).

PS: I work at McDonalds. Pay WAY better than GameStop.

I would answer it. Especially since I am the boss and if my boss is calling me that early, something is very wrong at the store.

But if that wasn't the case, I would wait for him to leave a message on my voice mail. If its important, he'll leave a message and then depending on the message, I would call him back.

My strategy (since 7AM is the friggin' middle of my night):

1. Get up, turn off ringer, go back to sleep.
2. Call back an hour or so after I get up, apologize for being away from/turning off my phone, fake interest in what they have to say.
3. (usually) Enjoy my hard-earned day off.

This strategy works wonders because it gives the caller time to find another solution to their problem (usually someone called in sick/didn't show up/blah), and also gives the impression that I care, since I did indeed call back (albeit belatedly). Just to mix things up and keep anyone from catching on to my little scheme, I will occasionally answer the first time it rings, though they usually don't need me to come in when I do that anyway.

7 am isn't that early. On first shift I had already been at work for 2 hours at 7am. And I'm not a morning person. Not even a daytime person. But even on second shift if I'm called in earlier due to some snafu (I am quite often), I just get up and go and sleep when get back. It's not that big of a deal.

Meh. I find a strategically-placed Hard Knuckle works wonders in those situations.

As for me, that wouldn't be my boss calling then. She probably doesn't get in that early, and knows I'm almost never AWAKE before noon. Doesn't make sense to be in by then, at least while school's in session.

That is prolly the worst thing you could ever do thats like saying.... "Hey, you called but I dont give a shit." It sounds really irresponsible. Coudln't you just answer the phone and say "Yeah, I would but I have plans actually." Does that not make sense?

Ironically, your name 'Crashman' fit the situation perfectly

My rule is that there is a black out period on telephones from 12 am to 8 am. Call in that time? Don't expect an answer you can leave a message. That is my sleeping time.

Good night.

I got called again at 8:40, and was up so i took the call. Ended up being me and another guy for about 11 hours. Man, was he pissed. He had to call in at his night job to help me cover so I wasnt alone untill 8 o clock at night on the 3rd of july. Everyone olse at the store didnt come in, or answer the phone.

I wonder what would've happened if you answered the phone the first time.

In Oregon, you can fire for anything, but some reasons are frivolous and can be fought... But you don't have to say the reason.

Are you sure? Here you can fire anyone for any reason. That should be a boss' perogative. If you don't think someone is the kind of employee you want, 86 his ass. You can't discriminate based on race or sex, but you don't have to give a reason for firing someone either.

Of course, Louisiana's civil code > other states' civil codes.

Coming from my current job, I wouldn't be sure why they'd call that early, but I'd still answer.

In my first job I used to get calls that time or earlier. It was my boss desperately seeking somebody to fill in. She'd always laugh and say "did I wake you?" too. ~_~ But being a casual and only getting paid for when I work -- I'd always go in.

So yeah, in both cases, answer it.

Girl, you have no idea just how pissy I can be due to lack of sleep-- like today.

If he asks, then either you slept through the call or you were outside and didn't know that he phoned.

I mean, IF you were to go the lying route, you have plausible options.

I wouldv'e ignored it. If your boss is like my last boss she wouldv'e been pissed but there's nothing she could do about it. I will cover shifts if the person who needs the shift covered asks. I will not cover shifts if the boss asks unless I really need the money.

Not answering means you don't have to lie.

I would have answered it, but considering I work at a place that doesn't open until noon, it wouldn't have been about going into work early or anything like that.
If I did work somewhere that opened at 7 am.... I probably would have ignored it too.
