PS2 reliability? I had a Ps2 at launch (and the welcopme pack to prove it), and it still works now.
Me too, but I got the disc read error thing and ended up buying a new one around early 2005. Then, I later cracked it open and cleaned it up. Gave it to my little sister.

On the other side of your argument, I only know one person getting a PS3. Everyone I know is getting a Wii.
I have the grounds to assume you hang out with the bumper sticker shirt crowd. Realistically, your average american consumer is: Getting an 360 or saving up for a PS3

It is mediocre. At least the quality is, most of the time.
It's not mediocre. You feel the product is fragile or less durable than others, sure.

And I still don't think it can replace a computer.
Sony said they'd replace the computer(or something along those lines) back with the PS2, you shouldn't ever believe it from anyone.

If the Wii isn't higher than $200 and has some neat games, I'll pick one up.

As far as my primary system goes, I think I'll wait until the cards are on the table.

It's not Nintendo fanboyism.

It is just the general stupidity that grasps the mind of those sad people that haven't digivolved beyond Grade 2 intelligence.

*Rolls eyes*

Ok a 'Tard speaks...

The PS3 IS expensive, I admit, though all new technology is. I predict the PS3 getting it's arse kicked, leading to a price drop in early 2007 (or failing that a Price drop with the release of GTA IV in October '07), leading to all the people who've preordered one bitching like mad.

Sony still have pretty extensive third party support, they still have the backing of the big hitters like Konami and Square, as well as Rockstar games.

The PS3 WILL play all PS2 and PS1 games for that matter, they said as much in E3.

No one actually knows how much Ps3 games are going to cost yet.

PS2 reliability? I had a Ps2 at launch (and the welcopme pack to prove it), and it still works now.

As for owning a PSP, why does that make me a Tard? Loco Roco is my fave Handheld game EVER, only Tetris on the GB comes close to matching it. I have owned (and sold) a DS, and loved Wario Ware, but the practicalities of playing it on the bus and on the move meant I couldn't play it properly. As for the PSP emulation scene, well Sony seem to want to scupper that, with the new 2.7 firmware, Emulation is pretty much dead - you can play Flash games though.
I'm looking forward to PS1 emulation, playing FFVII on the move will be a dream come true.
So, elaborate on your insulting a group of gamers you've not even met, or is this Nintendo Fanboyism rearing it's ugly head again?

Because we all know that by the time they'll have fixed all the problems with the PS3 (from the first gen PS3), the stuff in it will be cheaper. And I still don't think it can replace a computer.

Damn, i wish i could live where you do. Honestly, not many people play games in my town. The local hobby here is pretty much getting fucked up and staring mindlessly at the television.

I wouldn't call the ps3 "mediocre technology" though, if you where to go out and buy all the hardware that is going to be in the ps3 (can't even buy a cell processor) you'd pay over 1,000 dollars. Infact, being a person that keeps up with the latest news in pc hardware and that used to try and keep my system up to date... I'd be much smarter for someone that wants to get into pc games to buy a ps3 and connect a mouse and keyboard, then wait for the ports that are sure to come, over constantly getting ripped off trying to keep a pc upgraded.

On the topic of exclusive games, I guess Sony doesn't think it's that important.

Eh, i think you meant Xbox. Sony has always gotten more exclusive, 3rd party, and the most titles in general. Microsoft only has "Bungie" (i think that's it) to make some more mediocre shooters for them and even though Nintendo is the only truly progressive new console i think it's best not to underestimate Sony.

Most console gamers have alot of love for Playstation. Every friend i know is buying a ps3 reguardless of the price because Playstation has developed such a following. I'm the only person i know in my town getting a Wii.

Remember, Nintendo is kiddy. The quality of a game is not in it's gameplay, but how "cool" it looks when you kill something in a 3rd person action game and how pretty ps3 will make the visuals.

Seems like 'analysts' agree with this.

I have my own opinion, just posting this because it relates to the subject and is kind of interesting.

You can do emulation and that on the PSP, though; if the thing ever drops to $99 or so, I might consider picking one up for giggles.

Nintendo had a great fall when they entered the fifth generation (Nintendo 64 et al), I think they did better in the 6th but not quite enough, PS2 was more attractive than GameCube for a while. Game Boy Advance was eh, not the best handheld of its time (they couldn't even bother putting in a backlight), but it did fairly well at first (and then all the franchise shit came in). This year's E3 was taken over by Nintendo; if you wanted to test out the PS3 demo there was pretty much no wait, while the Wii demo line wrapped around the whole west wing of the building. Microsoft was able to do fairly well, they already have their 7th-gen console out, thus didn't have to go over the system too much, in the end they didn't leave a real impact, but it wasn't bad. Sony killed themselves. Nintendo took everyone by storm.

It's not too late, Sony can still make the PS3 look more attractive, it's pretty much the price range that sets everyone off. But the Wii honestly looks like a clear winner of this generation, the controller, sequel to Super Mario 64, Red Steel, virtual console, it wins.

And in the handheld department, Nintendo DS really has all the fun. I hope I don't need to explain it, so I'll just sumarize it:
1. If you want great commercial games, get a Nintendo DS
2. If you want great homebrew/emulation, get a GP2X
3. If you want to be a tard, get a PSP

The PSP's shaping up to be a lost cause. It's not going to do as badly as Nintendo's past contenders to the portable throne, but... nothing's setting it apart from the pack. :\

Don't assume anything yet for this generation's consoles. It's anybody's game now.
Wii is going to get a lot of popularity, and so are the others. Nobody will really get kicked out of the console war.

And the PSP is loosing to the DS badly, so I don't think Sony will beat Nintendo in the handheld department soon.

We all know what happens to Sony early adopters though.

Extended warranties are usually a waste of money but if you're getting a PS3 at launch...

It depends on the market.

The Japanese performance of X-Box360 isn't surprising.

But really, Microsoft will gradually eat away into the Japanese market. Maybe the next generation in 6 or so years will be their saturation point.

However, the more thrifty North American buyers will probably see Microsoft take 1st place this generation. With Sony a close second and Nintendo growing its base. Sony is losing out this round due to its unwieldly prices. I still think that the PSP, assuming that they revamp the system itself and relaunch with a lower pricepoint, could take a big chunk from Nintendo's chief territory in the North American market.

1- Blue-Ray is the only real strong point of the PS3 hardware. Great for early adopters of the technology. However, Sony's strategy of winning the next-gen video market seems to be quite faulty. They're really just falling back on brand loyalty. At those prices brand loyalty can easily desolve. HD-DVD is cheaper and it seems that its backing companies may not be as strong as the consortium surrounding Blue-Ray, but in the coming months expect it to pull forward a bit. It is already being advertised on TV and has some products launched. Blue-ray isn't there yet. Using a risky console as your strategy for a flag-ship proprietary format is NOT a good idea

2- Yeah, ties into #1

3- They're going to have all the exclusives of before. Just that Microsoft being the stronger contender will eat away a bit.

I think it's way too early to say that PS3's going to be #3, especially with those facts. There won't be a lot of exclusive third party titles on any system because a lot of games come out on more than one system in an attempt to maximize profits.

The PS3 has over a hundred games being produced. What part of that equals lack of 3rd party "tittles"?

It's not smart to base blu-ray usefulness off the proformence of a first-generation blu-ray players. Remember first-generation DVD players? Much more pricy (and slower) then current generation DVD players. And chances are that most new PS3 games are going DVDs, not blu-rays. For the same reason some PS2 games are CDs instead of DVDs. The Blu-ray outranks the DVD in storage capacity. A four layer Blu-ray can be up to 100GB. But how many games are going to be bigger then the 15GB DVD limit anyway?

The Blu-ray disc also has the protective coating known as Durabis. A type of polymer that's been claimed to successfully resist damaged caused by wire-wool and screwdrivers. This and along with the PS3 use of Blu-ray technology may secure it's victory over HD-DVD in the format war. And where did you hear that the PS3 won't play Blu-ray movies?

The only concern I have over Blu-ray is that it's only suppose to be a few years before formats that use holographic (3D-storage) memory arise. All current formats only use photographic (2D-storage) memory.

...

Heh, heh, tittles...

1. Doesn't Sony usually get 3rd party games more than other companies?
2. Most of the 3rd party games aren't really that good.

I'm not defending the PS3, but that last statement was about half as good as it looks.
Otherwise, your right about this, but PS3 customers are willing to pay that much.
