Keeping it closed to beta testing. I dislike demos. (*Cough* The New Lands *Cough*)

But if I'm pondering about some things, I'll message select people with screenshots of my question.

.....And at the time of this posting, I have 18 levels, or exactly a quarter of the game, completed.

.......No screenies yet.

If you need a beta tester, I'll be more than happy to give constructive criticism...

Silly eye candy doesn't spontaneously update.

But I am working on more cool levels and starting to mix and match some custom palletes as of today. I got the bushes from SMB3:8-1 ripped and finished. Got that lovely olive coloured castle done, and I'm thinking about working on the vanilla secret levels, turning them into World 4.

The world themes, I'll just keep secret, but once I get enough work done. I'll update with a new batch.

DARKMATT'S CHECKLIST

[ ] Making fun levels to play
[ ] Making overworld
[ ] Modifying levels here and there
[ ] ...ExGfx

I agree with this list of priorities. It's actually nice to see the original SMW graphics, anyway to be honest. And Yoshi's Island always looks slick, regardless of where you find it.

Still, keep to this checklist of priorities and you can't really go wrong.

Nice to see people still making levels for SMW. Those screens look pretty solid.

Good luck with it.

I'm glad to hear that I don't need to replace the background of that olive coloured castle anytime soon. Mind you I am not wanting to use much ExGFX until I've completed a good chunk of levels and started working on the overworld.

Yeah I can't find a good way to spruce up the layer 3 backgound other then fixing the pallete, which I already did and now it looks great. But another problem I have with the level that takes place is that I can't find a good fix to slowdown you're going to encounter.

And the swapped hills....well they're just pallete 7 fixed it so it won't look retarded.

EDIT: (I take too long to make these) Because peter, you're the person that gave me the ExGFX leading to that 2nd screenshot. I did the Strawberry Dance when you gave me that .rar with decompressed YI gfx.

Also, I remember now. Creating fun levels, NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. This chart saids so too!

I love the castle, a lot. The rest, I can't say look uninteresting. The levels in those shots actually look really fun to play. I know you were hacking long before I was. And I thought you quit after you announced that Super Winter World was "frozen" (that one never gets old! ), but yeah, keep it up, I like where this is going.

But uh, why am I in the "People to thank"?

The greenish-castle screenshot is my favorite, you blended SMW and YI extremely nicely there. Most of the others aren't bad, but they're generic. The palette-swapped hills are done very well. The last screenshot with the layer-3 background is a bit poor though. I highly reccommend not forcing layer three over everything. It would be fine other wise.

Overall, 7/10. Good effort, but could use a bit more originality and a few easily-fixable issues.

OR Asking smart people how I'm doing.

...[SS]

Okay, after a year or so of my last FAILED attempt, I'm deciding to quell boredom by making mario levels, and if I make enough, I'll call it a mario hack.

Beware that the order is random.

DETAILS:

ExGfx: Some, but no complete overhaul, who cares if it's hip.
Overworld: Uuuuuuum, later. *Levelslevelslevels*
Progress: About 15 or so levels done. Out of 80 or soso.
Difficulty: Normal~Difficult~Punches your balls off. Around those 3.
Amount of times you tried making a hack: 6
Amount of times you had to cancel: 4.
Amount of times you hit yourself for screwing up: 48
In percent, Confidence that you'll finish this time: 68%
Hacks released: 2 (Both look horrible now)
Finished hacks: 0
Started hacking in: 2001
People to thank: peter_ac, everybody that payed attention to previous works.
The fun of spewing out a whole variety of variables: Priceless.

Comment for good things!
